00:00You thought it was over? It ain't over. Nothing is over.
00:05Said by John Rambo, it's said by Andrew Barry.
00:11Yesterday, the Browns made an interesting move
00:15as they moved around Miles Garrett's contract, changed it up a little bit.
00:19He was due an option of $29.2 million. I'm reading this through Jack Duffin.
00:23Now, some of this is going to get a little wonky here, so I'll try to clean it up as
00:26best we can.
00:26Again, Jack Duffin, he's a capologist for 24-7 sports,
00:32one of the ones that we pay attention to because he seems to always get the math right.
00:37Says that he was owed $29.2 million on an option bonus on the 25th of March.
00:43That was yesterday.
00:44Browns could have paid it. It would have effectively ended.
00:46Any chance of him being moved this season because the Browns would have paid out $29.2 million
00:50of the $32.5 million. He's due in 2026. No team's going to pay that, obviously.
00:55All right, ESPN, Field Yates, he reported yesterday that the Browns and Miles Garrett
01:00agreed to change his contract, moving the $29.2 million option bonus
01:04back from the 25th of March to seven days before the league season in September.
01:08So, long story short, a lot of people are saying, why would they do this?
01:12The reason why they would do this is possibly to make it easier to move Miles Garrett.
01:17So, would they be willing to move Miles Garrett?
01:19Basically, this is now opening back up the conversation of flexibility if they decided
01:24to trade Miles Garrett.
01:26So, now I just have to ask the basic questions.
01:28If it's possible to trade Miles Garrett.
01:31Now, because I thought a lot of people were just ahead of it.
01:34It was like, hey, it's not, I don't know if he's ever going to finish his career as a
01:37Cleveland Brown.
01:38Now, there was times it felt like that.
01:40But, if you go from this year to next year, the dead cap goes from $102 million to $55 million.
01:47$55 million without Deshaun Watson's salary is actually kind of doable if you wanted to
01:52press the nuclear option and trade away Miles Garrett.
01:55This now brings it up to, well, he could be traded before June 1st.
01:58So, if he's traded before June 1st, let's talk about whether or not fans are willing
02:02to trade him.
02:03Because I think that I felt from last year, last year it was definitely like, we all thought
02:08he just wanted out.
02:09Then they signed the extension, and it seemed to be prohibitive, and there's a no trade clause
02:13in that contract.
02:15And, I think over time, now that he has set the record, do fans really care about seeing
02:22him break his own record if he goes out to set a record again?
02:26I think that some of the fever, or the temperature, I should say, has changed the Browns fans whether
02:32or not they want to trade the man or not.
02:34So, I got to ask, are people open to it?
02:362-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
02:37Are you open to trading Myles Garrett?
02:39I've kind of never thought he was going to finish his career a Brown.
02:42Not because he doesn't like the city.
02:44Well, after he signed that deal, and it seemed to be non-movable, I'm like, yeah, I didn't
02:48know there was something they could move around here.
02:49I just, I just.
02:50I thought he was going to finish.
02:51I just always kind of figured he'd go back to, he'd try to get on the Dallas Cowboys
02:55at some point or whatever, because what, did he grow up rooting for them?
02:58I just, you know, he's somebody that is just, his game seems to be aging in a great way.
03:05Like, I was wondering a few years ago, like, what is this going to look like when he turns
03:0830?
03:08Oh, dominant and even better.
03:10Like, he's getting better, and I wouldn't put it past him, not to get more sacks next
03:15year, but I wouldn't be shocked if, hey, if they're a little more competitive, he has
03:19even more opportunity to get pass rushes and all those other numbers that just aren't sacks.
03:26And we talked about how crazy Nathan Seguras came on this year, was like, did you know about
03:30his tackle for losses, that he is approaching those records?
03:33It's like, we never even talk about those, and that seems to be even more important than
03:37sacks.
03:37He is every bit at the top of his game.
03:39So, I don't know, if the Browns don't turn this around in the next, you know, in the next
03:45year, really, like, if they're still a bad team looking for a quarterback this year, then
03:49I would just assume he's not going to finish his career here.
03:51If you trade him before June, I mean, you're telling the whole world what your intentions
03:55are, that either you're going to try to do it on purpose, or you just know you're not
04:00even good to begin with, so you're going to try to get ready for the future and get
04:03everything ready for the future now.
04:05I think that that's where a lot of people are.
04:06If Andrew Barry got fired and a new GM came in, I always thought the first move to kind
04:12of set the tone of where they're going to be was, because that's when you could get
04:16away with it, too, right?
04:17New GM comes in, and I think everybody would be mad, but they'd also understand it.
04:21They'd also, they'd all be like, yeah, we need draft picks.
04:24We need as many cracks at it.
04:26The whole thing is to get a quarterback.
04:27It doesn't matter how good your defense is if you don't have a quarterback.
04:30So we'd all understand, like, yes, they're going to put their full weight behind targeting
04:36the quarterback.
04:38But with Miles on your team, he kind of makes it harder for you to get the quarterback,
04:42you know, too.
04:42Because when we talk about the tanking teams this year in the NFL, you know, yeah, outside
04:48of Cleveland, they're going to say the Browns are one of those teams.
04:50But here, we're like, no, we're not tanking.
04:52But while Miles is out there, you saw, he single-handedly took you out of Fernando Mendoza.
05:00You know, and he's going to do the same this year if he's healthy.
05:03He's going to take you out of, you know, whoever the number one overall pick is going
05:07to be in next year's draft.
05:09So you're willing to do it, is what you're saying?
05:11Yeah, I was willing to do it last year.
05:12But are you cheering for it, though?
05:14No, no.
05:14I think that's where a lot of us are.
05:16He's too good.
05:17He's obviously the best Browns player of my lifetime, and it's not close.
05:23And it's hard for me to fathom a player that could be better than Miles.
05:26I think it's something I accept.
05:28I think it's something I accept as a strong possibility.
05:31It's not something I cheer for because he is the greatest defensive player of all time
05:35in Browns history.
05:36He's probably a top three Browns player of all time.
05:39Jim Brown, Otto Graham, him.
05:41I mean, he's right there.
05:43It is a remarkable player.
05:48I also know that where are we at right now as a franchise?
05:52How much better is he making us as a franchise?
05:55Again, he's fantastic.
05:56And I think he changes the way that we look at the entire defense because it's so hard
06:01to game plan around him.
06:02And now that you have some talent on that defense here, we've seen what that defense
06:06can really do.
06:08That all pointed out, I think a lot of fans are just kind of like, yeah, I don't know
06:11if anybody's beating the drum to trade the guy.
06:14I think they just understand.
06:16It's like, hey, we're either growing or we're dying here.
06:18One of the two.
06:19Are we trying to make the playoffs with this team?
06:21Are we lying to ourselves about trying to make the playoffs with this team?
06:23Because you go to the internet, there's plenty of people out there.
06:26I don't know if they're real, but you'll find plenty of accounts saying, you guys are
06:28stupid.
06:29We're going to win 11 games this year.
06:31And I go, okay.
06:32Most people probably say that every year, though.
06:33I don't really put a lot of stock in that.
06:35Well, I mean, I get called the homer of homers, and I don't know if I'd ever go that far.
06:41There's optimism in a hundred.
06:42You got to beat me for saying eight games last year.
06:45There is optimism 100% of the time from a certain faction of every fan base in the NFL.
06:50So I don't put a lot of credence into that.
06:52But no, I mean, Vegas has them at, I thought last time I saw it was six or six and
06:58a half
06:58wins, I'm like, man, I know their schedule's easy, but picking them to win seven games
07:03and putting money on the line for that, good luck.
07:05So what's your price for Miles?
07:09Like, the cat was kind of let out of the bag.
07:12Was it Elliott Wolfe, I think, who might have mentioned the three first-round picks or something
07:15like that?
07:16Not that they were shopping, but it might start at three first-round picks.
07:19Well, for me, it's got to be more than just the standard, like, two first-rounders,
07:24because any team that, A, would want Miles and could fit him in and would think that
07:30they're a contender, but also that Miles would waive his no-trade to, would have to be a
07:36really good team.
07:36Where's that really good team going to be picking?
07:3828, 29, 30, 31.
07:40So just having two or three of those, that's not enough.
07:44But if you were going to trade him, this is the time to trade him, because there's plenty
07:47of teams that are willing to lie to themselves and think that this is the year we can really
07:51go for the gusto here.
07:52This is the year we can really do it.
07:53I think we felt that way about Jacksonville last year.
07:56It's like, Jacksonville's never really a really competitive football team.
07:59We're going to hose them.
08:00We're going to end up with a top, we're going to end up with two top 10 picks or two
08:03top
08:0315 picks.
08:04Jacksonville had a very nice season last year.
08:06They ended up with the 24th pick.
08:08That stunned everybody.
08:09And I think that did surprise a lot of people.
08:11I think a lot of people just thought Jacksonville was going to suck up the room.
08:13So now's the time where you trade him, because if you trade him during the season, it's
08:20exactly what you said.
08:20Who am I trading him to?
08:21Am I trading him for another 30th overall pick?
08:24What am I really going to get out of that?
08:26You're right about that.
08:27If you trade him during the summer, there is a chance where he ends up on a football team
08:31that for whatever reason or another, I mean, you don't want to pray for the downfall, but
08:34you end up doing it.
08:35He ends up on a football team that struggles and you end up getting another nice pick that
08:39you can package together.
08:40And then you look at those picks where if you can get more than one first round pick, which
08:44you would probably get two and then some change, exactly what you said.
08:47If you get two and then some change, you end up using those to possibly go after the quarterback
08:52you want or half of those to go after the quarterback you want.
08:55The half you use on players that you really are excited about and want to draft.
08:59It's what nobody wants.
09:02It's what we may have to accept.
09:05There's things in life that we have to accept that nobody wants this, but this is what we
09:09have to do to remain solvent.
09:11This is what we have to do to keep our head above water.
09:13No one's cheering for it.
09:15No one wanted to steer into this.
09:17Here is what we are.
09:18So don't take this as saying anything about Miles and saying that we don't need him,
09:23this, that, and the other, and championing a trade of Miles Garrett.
09:26I don't think it would be met with celebration.
09:28I think it would be met with acceptance.
09:30I think it would just be a necessary thing that sucks.
09:33I think it would also pull the entire fan base onto the same page on where the team actually is.
09:37It actually would.
09:38But it would also pull apathy out of the fan base for this coming season.
09:42Yeah.
09:42Because then you would look at this defense.
09:43There are people that just went to go watch Miles Garrett.
09:45Because if you trade Miles Garrett, you are telling the entire world what you think of this
09:49football team now and what you think of what they can do now and what you're planning
09:53for for the future.
09:53And that includes you know who, who's lining up a quarterback, who we all, most of us want
09:58to line up a quarterback if we have the same quarterback room.
10:01That's exactly what they think.
10:02Because you ain't trading Miles Garrett if you think that you can really do something
10:08over here.
10:09And because he's not demanding a trade and doing crazy things, kind of almost like what
10:15he did last year.
10:16Because he's not that, if you were to trade him, then you're telling everybody what your
10:19plans are for now and for the future.
10:21And it's not about this team.
10:22Well, so there's, there's the public part of this.
10:25Yeah.
10:25Miles has not demanded a trade or anything like that.
10:27And anytime he's asked, he says, oh, you know, I'm with the plan and whatever.
10:30Then there's the behind the scenes and we don't know that stuff, but they do.
10:34Right.
10:34They know exactly where he's at and he knows how to show his frustration, whether it is
10:40outwardly or by the stuff he attends, the stuff he's not at.
10:44And they know, right?
10:46They've, they've had them in-house enough.
10:47They know enough to know when Miles is truly happy or truly not happy.
10:54Coming up next, five minutes away.
10:56I do want to know, are you willing to trade Miles Garrett as we bring this conversation
11:01up yet again, because of the moment, because of the deal that the Browns made yesterday
11:05of moving his money around on his bonus.
11:07All right.
