22 March - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast and it's all change from the north as we go through
00:07the next 24 hours.
00:09A cold front slowly sinking its way southwards, introducing thick clouds, some patchy rain, but another area of high pressure
00:16built in behind this.
00:17But eventually another weather system moving into the northwest later Monday to give stronger winds, outbreaks of rain.
00:24And then it looks like it turns colder for all as we get towards the middle of next week.
00:29So some hazy spells of sunshine holding on this afternoon across southern counties of England.
00:35A thicker cloud across parts of Wales into the Midlands, northern England, could give some splashes of rain as the
00:41cold front slowly sinks its way southwards.
00:43Brighter skies starting to develop behind this across parts of Northern Ireland into Scotland, but also blustery showers too.
00:51Some of these showers falling as snow over the high ground, but in between plenty of sunny spells.
00:56Colder air here, temperatures 8 or 9 degrees across northwest Scotland.
01:00Highs still across southern and eastern Scotland, 11 to 14 Celsius, 13 there for Northern Ireland.
01:05Under the cloud, 12 to 14 Celsius, but still possibly 15 or 16 degrees across southern England in that hazy
01:12sunshine.
01:13Into the evening time, this weather system continues to push its way slowly southeastwards, introducing thicker cloud, a few splashes
01:20of rain, but generally for most of us it will stay dry.
01:23Then overnight, for most of us, clear spells developing.
01:27Again, some mist and fog patches like we've seen of recent nights.
01:30And where skies stay clear, we will see some frost in places too, with generally light winds for everyone.
01:37So towns and cities falling to mid to low, single figures in the countryside, minus two or so in one
01:43or two spots.
01:43Just the clouds starting to thicken across the northwest of Scotland Monday morning.
01:48Showery outbreaks of rain moving in here as the next low pressure system starts moving in.
01:53So increasing amounts of cloud through the day across Northern Ireland, Scotland.
01:56Rain and stronger winds pushing in here by the afternoon.
01:59Hazy spells of sunshine across much of England and Wales, but eventually a warm front will give the risk of
02:05some patchy rain to North Wales into Northern England as well.
02:09But the vast majority in the south staying dry with some sunny spells and temperatures here lifting once again 14
02:14to 16 Celsius.
02:1612, 11 Celsius across northern parts of England, Northern Ireland, and then generally between 8 and 10 Celsius for much
02:24of Scotland.
02:25So feeling cooler here and with the increasing strength of that breeze, we could see gusts 30, 40 miles an
02:30hour by the afternoon into the evening time across northwest Scotland.
02:34It will feel cooler than the numbers suggest.
02:37This weather system continues to push its way eastwards through Monday evening.
02:41Some heavy spells of rain possible at times, particularly northwest Scotland.
02:44The Highlands there seeing some brighter echoes on the chart, but the vast majority of the UK to end the
02:50day.
02:50It will be fairly cloudy, but largely dry.
02:53That wet weather continues to spread south and eastwards through Tuesday, so a spell of rain for most, just some
02:59sunshine holding on to the far southeast.
03:02Colder weather then moving in for Wednesday, a noticeable drop in temperatures, wintry showers, particularly across the north of the
03:09UK, and staying chilly into Thursday as well, but a little drier.
