27 March National Afternoon Forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello, good afternoon, welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Office.
00:04A bit of a chilly afternoon to come for many of us, a blustery northwesterly breeze, but there'll be plenty
00:09of sunny spells.
00:10High pressure holding on at the moment, but frequent blustery showers.
00:13The next weather system moving in tonight and pushing southeastward through Sunday to give everybody a spell of rain.
00:20Colder air following as well behind this system later on Sunday.
00:24So a real mixed weekend to come.
00:26On Saturday afternoon, sunny spells and showers for many of us.
00:30Towards the southwest, nearer to the high pressure, showers here less frequent, less heavy.
00:35Further north and east you are.
00:36Showers turn heavier, the risk of some hail, some thunder, some snow over the higher ground as well.
00:42And a northwesterly wind making it feel quite chilly.
00:45So temperatures for most of us between 8 and 11 Celsius, but gusts around 30 to 40 locally,
00:5145 miles per hour across the northwest will make it feel colder than the thermometer suggests.
00:57Just one or two degrees across northwest Scotland, down to around 5 to 7 degrees across parts of England and
01:03Wales.
01:03So if you are out and about, you may need an extra layer.
01:07But in the sunshine, as the March sunshine continues to strengthen, it will feel fairly pleasant for some of us.
01:13Showers continuing for a time into the evening, but fading across England and Wales overnight.
01:18Allowing clear skies, this will allow temperatures to drop away.
01:21Single figures in places, down to minus 1, minus 2 in the countryside.
01:26But thicker cloud across Northern Ireland into Scotland as the next weather system moves in here.
01:31Outbreaks of rain moving in, temperatures not falling quite as low.
01:34So a wet start here across Northern Ireland and Scotland.
01:37Hillsnow as well as this weather system moves in, accompanied by very strong winds.
01:42Sunshine replaced by cloud and patchy rain as we move through into the afternoon across England and Wales.
01:47But turning brighter behind it across Northern Ireland, Northern England and Scotland.
01:51Blustery showers in between the spells of sunshine.
01:54Again, the risk of hail, thunder, accompanied by some strong and gusty winds.
01:59The temperatures here dropping through the afternoon as colder air filters back in 8 to 10 Celsius.
02:04Under the cloud and rain across England and Wales, also feeling quite chilly around 10 or 11 Celsius.
02:10Into the evening time, the cloud and rain across England and Wales will continue to push its way southwards and
02:16clear.
02:16But blustery showers falling for most.
02:18These most frequent across Scotland, where they will continue to fall as snow in places too.
02:23So a chilly end, an unsettled end to Sunday.
02:26Signs into next week are that high pressure is always nearby, but the risk of some rain at times too.
02:32And as we head towards the Easter weekend, again, the risk of some rain, but also dry weather.
02:38More information on that on our website and our social media channels.
02:42See you again soon.
