00:01Tonight on the Project Runway season 11 reunion special.
00:05That's not being truthful.
00:06It is being truthful. Those are my feelings.
00:09I think Benjamin talks a bunch of balls.
00:11Let's tell it how it is.
00:13So you're blaming someone else?
00:14Stan told me, this is really cool. This is really cool.
00:17You clearly did not want to work with Patricia.
00:19Patricia could do no wrong in Heidi's eyes.
00:21Do you think I'm immature?
00:22Don't look at her. She's like Medusa.
00:25Do you wish you'd stuck up for yourself a little bit more?
00:27It was not fair to me at all.
00:29If you don't fight back, you're not going to survive.
00:31So Michelle and Leon are bitches.
00:33Yeah.
00:34I feel bad for you.
00:35What you didn't see is that I almost quit.
00:38You got me good on that one.
00:39Hi.
00:45Welcome, everyone. I'm Zanna Roberts-Rossi,
00:48and this is the Project Runway season 11 reunion special.
00:53Hi, everyone.
00:54Hi.
00:55Welcome back.
00:57Congratulations to all the finalists and Michelle.
01:00A brilliant win.
01:01I loved your collection.
01:03Well done.
01:04But we're going to get back to more of that later.
01:06Daniel, I didn't even recognize you.
01:08What happened to your mustache?
01:10Your mustache is everything.
01:11Isn't that amazing?
01:12Amazing.
01:13Amazing.
01:14Wax the mustache.
01:15I'm ready.
01:16Yes.
01:17It's awake.
01:18It's awake.
01:19This mustache went like this.
01:21It was like bump.
01:22I said, okay, you're going to be 50 this May.
01:26Let's do some change.
01:27So I went to the hotel room and I shaved it off.
01:29You did it.
01:30Yeah, I did it.
01:31Let's talk about the team's twist this season.
01:34That's not a real laugh over there.
01:39This whole team situation was sprung on you.
01:42As soon as you walk through the door of Parsons.
01:44Let's take a look.
01:45Every challenge will be a team challenge.
01:48Aww.
01:49Okay.
01:50Know what?
01:51Only Daniel smiled because that's what you do.
01:54Yeah, right.
01:55But everyone else is just like...
01:56That was monumental.
01:57Lord have mercy.
01:58Oh, hell no.
01:59Like, this can't be happening.
02:04I personally loved the team aspects for two reasons.
02:10One, it kind of put you guys in the real world.
02:13Two, you guys had the chance to critique each other before the judges.
02:17And I think that was a really good idea.
02:20For me, I had prepared myself for the show that I had seen before.
02:24And then when I got here and they were like, it's teams.
02:26And I was like, I don't know if I would have gone through all of that.
02:28Yeah.
02:29We all came with very different views.
02:31And so you want to make this team thing work, but still show your voice.
02:34And it was just very hard.
02:36I thought it was kind of realistic.
02:38I work in production, so I'm totally used to succumbing to like the client's wishes.
02:43Right.
02:44Or the director's wishes.
02:45No pecking order as such here.
02:46Right.
02:47Now there's some teams that were complete matches made in heaven.
02:51And there were some teams that were anything but.
02:54Let's take a look.
02:57That looks too like the inside of a sofa.
03:01Benjamin is breathing down my neck.
03:04The jacket, you think that's going to be the dominant?
03:06That's going to be the pale.
03:07I need to make my pattern.
03:09I can do it myself.
03:10Benjamin doesn't need to step in and watch everything that I'm doing.
03:15I feel like you're really trying to micromanage me here.
03:19So you're going to like bubble it, sew it.
03:21No, it's going to be flat.
03:23Our aesthetics are like oil and water.
03:25We have to figure out a way.
03:26That's awkward.
03:27He hasn't wanted to listen.
03:28This is going to get me in a lot of trouble.
03:32I just hope I don't work with Patricia.
03:35I'm really frustrated that Patricia is still here.
03:38Michelle, you don't have a partner.
03:40Patricia.
03:41Michelle and Liana, I actually gave the two of you the highest scores.
03:46But it was actually Patricia's lowest score that kept your team from being on the top.
03:52I'm sorry.
03:54Michelle, you clearly did not want to work with Patricia and said as much.
03:58Why was that?
03:59She is a artist.
04:01Textiles are her passion.
04:03And it's hard for her to communicate what her final vision is going to be.
04:08And now, I mean, I love her and would love to work with her.
04:12We've bonded.
04:13You know, my pure, I don't want to work with Patricia is gone.
04:17But it took, I don't know, 12 challenges to figure that out.
04:20Patricia, did you know that Michelle didn't want to work with you earlier on?
04:24No, I didn't.
04:25You know, she did admit to me that you didn't want to work with me.
04:28And I admire the fact that you are that person who's going to tell me.
04:32Right.
04:33It's so funny watching the show and you think that, like, you're cool with someone.
04:37I didn't know how much Kate didn't like me.
04:40When looking at our look and then looking at Amanda's look, I don't think we did the worst job on our team.
04:46I think that the next person to be eliminated will probably be Amanda.
04:50She is the weakest designer in the workroom right now.
04:54No, but it was like, for me, I just don't like to see.
04:57I've always been the underdog and the person who everyone looks down on and I'm always too young to do this.
05:01Oh, that's so true.
05:02And so, so I was like, once again, I feel like the outcast race.
05:07How's the dynamic now between you guys?
05:09Are you friends again?
05:10I mean, I don't know how you guys are towards me.
05:13Honestly, it's like at the end of this, I feel like we're just one big dysfunctional family.
05:19Amanda, how do you feel about Kate?
05:21I always thought we were cool.
05:23You know what?
05:24Honestly, I will say this.
05:25I didn't look down on you or think you were the youngest.
05:28But now watching the show, like I, this is going to sound a little condescending.
05:32I don't mean it that way, but like, I feel bad for you.
05:35I feel really bad that that's how you went out.
05:37I'm ready to fight.
05:38It's fight or die.
05:40There's no one in this room I want to work with.
05:42The other people just think they're hot .
05:44If you take the sleeve off, it'll like sex it up.
05:46No sleeve.
05:47I don't give a what they have to say.
05:49I'm just feeling so worried now.
05:51I'm kind of like shutting down, but I don't want to.
05:53It should look almost like sex.
05:54I don't care if you're worried.
05:55Keep it to yourself.
05:56Like, go cry in the bathroom.
05:57I don't know.
05:58You want to do a short?
05:59There's only room for one cook in this kitchen, and that's me.
06:02I just feel really bad because I know that that must be so hard for you to watch.
06:08Do you think it was maybe because you're the youngest of the group?
06:12I don't want to say immature, but I just did.
06:15So was it because of that?
06:17Because you think I'm immature?
06:19No, because you had a more immature approach to it.
06:22This is a competition.
06:23So, yeah, I had my daggers out because I needed to keep a clear head.
06:27I also think it was an element of fear in all of us.
06:29When you're afraid and, you know, you go to that place of, I've got to protect myself.
06:33And, I mean, me, I'm like.
06:34I think you did.
06:35I mean, you were perceived as very serious.
06:38I'm like chocolate-covered razor blade.
06:40And then towards the end, the more it melted, you were going to get cut.
06:44I even dropped the F-bomb, which I never let myself lose control.
06:47And I was just like when I was yelling at my friend, too.
06:49And I loved to, but it was just like, I just got like wonky for some reason.
06:53It was like Mr. Hyde.
06:54What are you doing?
06:55You should have pressed it first.
06:56Oh, my God.
06:57Two?
06:58Two.
06:59He's very bossy and Stanley is too strict.
07:01It's not just me because it's very difficult to help him to do something.
07:05Two just screwed me up, man.
07:08And it was just like, it came out of nowhere and I was just like, but it was like the competition
07:12was like in your face and it's on the line and people were dropping like flies.
07:16Richard and Liana, you were not getting on.
07:19Why?
07:20I thought we had never had any tension on the show, really.
07:23And then all of a sudden we had, we had this like a huge blowout on the runway.
07:29If you guys asked me who was the weakest link, I would say Richard because throughout
07:32the competition, I feel like he's been very inconsistent and he makes too many excuses.
07:37Well, I disagree with that because the reality is I made my shirts myself.
07:41I didn't have help from nobody else.
07:42Well, I made my jacket myself, too.
07:44You didn't ask Stanley to help you with the back of it?
07:47I feel like you were harboring something.
07:49Yes.
07:50Well, do you remember like sometimes you would joke and saying that like, I would get whatever
07:56I wanted just because I was pretty.
07:58I said that because she would.
08:00She would come over and be like, Richard, I need this black fabric.
08:05Are you going to utilize this?
08:06Didn't she do it?
08:07But he gave it to me.
08:08And I was the running joke.
08:09I would tell people, don't look at her.
08:11She's like Medusa.
08:12We need like a hundred dollars.
08:14Oh my God.
08:16It's Liana.
08:17Of course we're going to get extra from everybody else.
08:19Can I ask you those checks and questions?
08:21No, just ask me.
08:22Yes.
08:23You know I'll take care of you.
08:24What?
08:25Liana gets her way with everything.
08:27So if Liana wants a certain color of duct tape, Liana's going to get a certain color of duct tape.
08:33We can always do silver and black.
08:35I give in.
08:36I say, just go pick whatever you want.
08:37So she picks a black and white zebra and we get to work.
08:40Okay.
08:41I'm happy with that choice.
08:42Stanley.
08:43Yes.
08:44Did she bet her eyelids?
08:45Yes.
08:46Yeah.
08:47I have a tendency to get what I want.
08:49Because of the experience that I've had, I think I found myself slipping into old patterns
08:54of work and old kind of roles.
08:57Micromanaging?
08:58Well, I mean that all comes down.
09:01Yes.
09:02Yes.
09:03That has been quite a touchy issue.
09:06Obviously it came across like micromanaging to you.
09:09And I wasn't coming from that point of view.
09:11And as soon as Cindy said that to me in the work room, I backed away instantly.
09:15I didn't realize I was doing that.
09:16I'm sorry you feel that way.
09:18I'll leave you to it.
09:19Cindy, you're very quiet there.
09:21I think Benjamin talks a bunch of bulls.
09:26In what way?
09:27He'd get on the runway and, oh, I tried so hard to organize this team and I just couldn't
09:34gather everybody in.
09:35I feel like he did though.
09:36But Cindy, I did try to do that.
09:37I think he did.
09:38And I tried to take my experience from my career and offer it to my team.
09:43Between you and I, it didn't go well.
09:45It didn't go well.
09:46But let's tell it how it is.
09:48Well, that's how it was for me.
09:50I am telling it how it is for me.
09:53That's fine.
09:54That's how it is for me.
09:55I apparently am a bit more bitter than I thought I was.
09:58I did things that the counseling had done the trick, but I guess not.
10:03This whole challenge was set up to make you guys better.
10:06Managers and communicators.
10:08Do you think that actually worked?
10:10You know, being on these teams, you know, you listen to these, you know, what your other
10:14person is going through.
10:15Maybe sometimes I listen too much.
10:17Right, you have too much empathy.
10:18Yes.
10:19There you go.
10:20It's fine.
10:21She has a little bit of room in the crotch, because you don't want it all the way up with
10:23that little room.
10:24Daniel is helping me with the shorts because he has a very quick way of draping pants.
10:30It's going to work.
10:31I am a nice, nice man.
10:33Mm-hmm.
10:34And sometimes I think I'm a little bit too nice.
10:35Right.
10:36And that's what gets me into trouble sometimes.
10:38So who do you think really benefited from having teams?
10:42I mean, obviously.
10:43Don't ask her if she won.
10:44That's why I'm asking her.
10:45Who else?
10:46But no.
10:47Do you benefit from teams?
10:48I didn't benefit.
10:49At the beginning, I was always on the bottom, because my team was always on the bottom.
10:55Dream Team, you are the losing team.
10:56Dream Team, you are the losing team.
10:59Dream Team, you are the losing team, yet again.
11:03If we lose one more time, I'm going to need some sort of happy drug.
11:08Dream Team, you are the losing team, again.
11:12And you solely blame your team for that?
11:14Yeah.
11:15Yeah, the team, because we were stuck in a team, and that was the score.
11:18I think, I mean, I wouldn't say necessarily any individual benefited most, but I think that when people maybe had a weaker look, but the team as a whole won, they got carried through.
11:30Yeah, the Lord and Taylor challenge with Daniel was a perfect example of a look that probably should have gone home.
11:37Amanda, you are rolling your eyes.
11:38I think I floated through a few on a really strong team. I totally admit that.
11:43But it was also said, too, like, you know, if your team has a weaker look, you should step in and give advice and try to give some constructive criticism.
11:49Well, I think, Emily, you had that. You know, you had some negative words about Cindy maybe to stay in the beginning, and then she stepped in and helped you.
11:56Cindy, she just had a career change, and so I feel like she's kind of at a disadvantage.
12:02Oh, my God.
12:04The way I'm looking at it, I only need you better than, you know, one person.
12:09You know, you think, okay, this is the older woman of the cast, you know, but she's so much more than that.
12:17I'll be done in about 20 minutes, and I can help.
12:19If you want to make me a really simple stretch skirt, no zip or anything.
12:23Already.
12:24Thank you so much, Cindy. You're seriously saving my life right now.
12:27You really have to look beyond what these people show you in the first 30 seconds of meeting them because Cindy saved my life.
12:36I was about to have, like, a naked model wandering down the runway, so, you know.
12:41Cindy, that must be good to hear.
12:42It was, and she did such a gracious thank you to me in the first episode. I love Emily.
12:49I kind of wish they would have been a naked model, though.
12:53It would have been much more interesting.
12:55After all of a sudden it could have been much more interesting.
12:57It may have been better.
12:58So, I have to be honest, in watching the whole season, I have never been more fascinated by the way you guys were all so lovely to each other.
13:06Sweetness and light in the workroom, and then in the interview chair, you would basically, for want of a better word, yeah, well, pull out the knives, I was going to say.
13:16Headache?
13:21Pink is...
13:23Pink's not your color.
13:25Not my color, but I do like that pink.
13:27I hate this color pink.
13:29This is turning out really cool, y'all.
13:34Is it looking good?
13:35Yeah.
13:36I can't wait to see it.
13:37All day, Daniel has been just gushing about this textile, and I'm always like, oh, yeah, that looks beautiful.
13:44That looks badass.
13:45It looks badass.
13:46Yeah.
13:47All the winning might be getting to his head.
13:50Ninety percent of what she designs and does is crap.
13:54I don't understand what her style is.
13:57I don't know what he means.
13:59Love me some Richard, but when it comes to wovens, he's a little bit challenged.
14:04Sewing, tailoring, it's a recipe for disaster.
14:07I know Nina said there's an element of fantasy in this challenge, but he is taking it all the way to Sesame Street.
14:13I swear to God, he can tell you how to get there in this jacket.
14:17Michelle, Liana, and Amanda are bitches.
14:20You get them together and they're like catty schoolgirls.
14:23One of you must be really pissed off with that.
14:26No, I can sell, honey.
14:28Go.
14:29I don't know why I was a mean girl.
14:30I never said anything mean.
14:32No, you know what?
14:33I totally agree with you when you say that.
14:35I think I kind of just clumped Amanda in with Michelle and Liana.
14:40So Michelle and Liana bitches.
14:42We're going to take a short break.
14:46When we come back, we're going to get to the bottom of this backstabbing in season 11.
14:51Coming up next.
14:53You could have said no.
14:54I did say no.
14:55I'm upset.
14:56I don't like you.
14:57Don't touch me.
15:05Welcome back.
15:06Now we're going to get to the bottom of this.
15:08I don't know why I was a mean girl.
15:10I never said anything mean.
15:12I think I kind of just clumped Amanda in with Michelle and Liana.
15:15So Michelle and Liana bitches.
15:17Yeah.
15:19But you know what?
15:20At the end of the day.
15:21I'm still in that crew.
15:22Well, yeah.
15:23No, at the end of the day, I think we all have our bitchy moments.
15:26And I do think that I misjudged you.
15:28And I got to know you a lot better on the other side.
15:31You didn't misjudge Michelle and Liana.
15:33Yeah, how about us?
15:34You know what, girls?
15:36Let's be real.
15:37We can all be catty.
15:38I'm a nice bitch.
15:39You're a nice bitch.
15:40You know, I think we all can be nice bitches.
15:43And Michelle's an intelligent bitch.
15:45Like, there's wit behind her comment.
15:46Yes, she is.
15:47I'm the queen of one-liners, apparently, on this thing.
15:49You're very good.
15:50But it's not out of malice.
15:52I honestly thought that his dress did look Easter-y.
15:54Big Bird.
15:55Big Bird, yeah.
15:56Big Bird.
15:57So for me, it's more out of humor than, and I'm not trying to be mean.
16:01The funniest was when Michelle was obviously saying she wasn't too fond of being on your team.
16:05Right.
16:06Right.
16:07And then you basically went to give her a hug, and Michelle is just like this.
16:09She's like, it's going on.
16:11I didn't know.
16:12She was like, oh, dad.
16:13No hugs.
16:14No hugs.
16:15What's with the no hugs thing?
16:20Yay.
16:21Wow.
16:22I don't want to be touched right now.
16:23Give me some things.
16:24When I'm upset, I don't want to be touched.
16:26I don't want people in my personal space.
16:28Like, I'm upset.
16:29I don't like you.
16:30Don't touch me.
16:31You know?
16:32That's what it is.
16:33You do?
16:34I think we all have to have claws.
16:35In this business, it's not like anybody's a Disney princess, per se.
16:39You know?
16:40It's like you have to have claws, because if you don't bite back, you're not going to survive.
16:43But I didn't bite.
16:44Yeah, you didn't.
16:45You didn't bite at me.
16:46And I do, I regret making those comments about Amanda, for sure.
16:50That's the comment I most regret.
16:51I think that was just tough for me to watch people come after me.
16:54And I was like, but I really, like, never came at anybody.
16:57I felt that also when you were being judged.
17:00Oh, my gosh.
17:01Maybe slightly thrown under the bus by the team.
17:04You were so shocked.
17:06I really was.
17:07You were.
17:08I was totally shocked.
17:09Let's take a look at that clip.
17:11Who should go home on your team?
17:13Who do you think, Richard?
17:14Amanda.
17:15I was delirious last night toward the end when I was trying to help her.
17:18I didn't know what I could do.
17:20It was really, really hard to see her go through what she went through last night, too.
17:24It didn't feel that traumatic last night, but maybe it was.
17:27Patricia, who do you think is the weakest link?
17:29I kept seeing her struggle with the moss, and I was concerned.
17:32I said, just get rid of it.
17:33Just get rid of it.
17:34The thing that I don't really understand is how my team talked about what a struggle it was.
17:40And I don't really think I was that much of a burden, so I kind of feel like they're lying.
17:46I was so sad.
17:47Ouch!
17:48Do you wish you'd stuck up for yourself a little bit more?
17:51Completely.
17:52100%.
17:53I've learned I need to be a little bit more of a bitch.
17:55I do.
17:56Like, I kind of do, because I think I got a little trampled on.
17:59Out of all of us, she is like the sweetest person.
18:02And I've seen her work with every person.
18:04Like, she's always the one who would give you that extra positive push sometimes when you need it.
18:08But then it's a vice and a virtue for you, because that's your weakness.
18:12I don't have that, like, dagger in the hand, like, ready to, I don't have it.
18:16You could just borrow Kate's.
18:17Yeah, I've had to.
18:18I need it.
18:19Okay.
18:20I have to bring this up, because it was the funniest challenge ever.
18:29The thunder from Down Under.
18:30Oh.
18:31Yes.
18:32It was hysterical.
18:33Hysterical.
18:38Ooh.
18:39I forgot to vote.
18:40Me too.
18:41Me too.
18:42I think we all did.
18:43Oh, no.
18:48Yeah, you might pick that up too tight.
18:53We lost Nina.
18:54Okay.
18:55It's gonna be okay.
18:58What went so wrong?
19:00Why was it so hard for you guys to do men's work?
19:02Those bodies.
19:04The bodies?
19:05The bodies.
19:06Like, even our dress forms weren't the same size as these guys.
19:08Right.
19:09I didn't want to do the business look.
19:10Then I did a design that wasn't my design, that was suggested to me.
19:13And so I said, okay, I'll do your vision.
19:17Somebody else said to do the woven thing?
19:19Yes.
19:20Really?
19:21Stanley.
19:22Stan told me, this is really cool.
19:23This is really cool.
19:24I'm surprised.
19:25Were you blaming someone else?
19:26You could have said no.
19:27Yeah.
19:28True.
19:29I did say no.
19:30I said I didn't want you to do it.
19:31Then why did you do it?
19:32Then why did you do it then?
19:33Because it was one of those controlling moments where I felt the testosterone.
19:35She's afraid of stimuli.
19:36No, the testosterone.
19:37No, we know how to dress men.
19:38We know how to dress men.
19:39Stanley, what do you think?
19:40She had the option to say no.
19:41And if she wanted to do her own designs, she could have presented it to the team.
19:45Mm-hmm.
19:46And we always, we always offered that up.
19:47Layana.
19:48I noticed you having a good old flirt with one of the strippers.
19:51No, that is completely not true.
19:53Oh.
19:54Are you married?
19:55No, I'm not married.
19:56Are you married?
19:57No, I'm not married.
19:58No?
19:59Girl, we don't have time to flirt.
20:02Oh.
20:03Sorry.
20:04He put his chair next to mine and we were talking, he was saying how hard it is for him
20:09to date because of his job.
20:11Okay.
20:12So I asked, are you married?
20:13It was nothing like that.
20:14Okay, good to clear that up.
20:16Yes.
20:17That was a good recovery.
20:18The funniest thing is that the episode came out and then I did an interview for Latina
20:24magazine and I talked about being pregnant.
20:27So they posted on the Project Runway blog.
20:29Everybody's like, it's from the guy, Tono from Gono.
20:32He's the father.
20:33And I'm like, great.
20:37Does anyone feel like being on Project Runway was actually harder than you expected?
20:42Yes.
20:43Yes.
20:44Everyone.
20:45Really?
20:46This is so much harder than it was on TV.
20:51Why?
20:52Why?
20:53You've seen 10 seasons.
20:54No.
20:55You think a day is 24 hours, but it's not 24 hours.
20:58The actual work time is so short.
21:01You start your day so early and you go until so late.
21:04I remember watching it and I would say to him telling the designers, oh, you get one day for this challenge.
21:09Yeah.
21:10And I would think, oh, that's not true.
21:11You actually get less in a day.
21:12Less.
21:13Yeah.
21:14You get about seven hours because during the day you have to do interviews, eating and have to stop.
21:18Would you say this is the hardest thing you've ever done in your life?
21:21As a designer, yes.
21:22As a designer, yeah.
21:23As a designer, yeah.
21:24You think that it'll be fine, you'll be able to handle it all, but it's so foreign and you are stripped of so much that the usual things that you would use in everyday life, your coping mechanisms, they're not there for you.
21:34Yeah.
21:35I mean, like, I tried to cry in the shower every night to get it out of my system, but I could not cry.
21:39Like, this is something that really happened.
21:41I tried.
21:42I was like, you just need to get it out so you don't cry in the work room, you know?
21:44It didn't work, right?
21:45And it didn't work.
21:46I couldn't cry, but that's when I got eliminated.
21:48I cried so hard my fake eyelashes were running down my face because I just couldn't turn it off.
21:53Yeah.
21:54Then cry is the happy moment, you know?
21:56Yeah.
21:57You need to believe in yourself even when nobody else does.
22:02Well, I think Project Runway is so hard, and obviously everyone has breaking points.
22:08But we saw some epic meltdowns.
22:11Let's take a little look.
22:14You need to be young.
22:15But you said that it has to sell for 21-year-olds.
22:18No, no, I didn't say that.
22:19I'm just saying.
22:20Yes, you did.
22:21No, I said, would a 21-year-old with a bunch of money want to buy it?
22:23But you made me feel like I wasn't doing anything right.
22:26Well, what I'm saying is that...
22:27So I want to make sure that everybody knows on our side that it needs to be done for a 21-year-old.
22:31No, no, it doesn't have to...
22:32What?
22:33Yes, Ms. Michelle, that's what you said.
22:34Daniel, what are you doing right now?
22:36I don't sell to 21-year-olds.
22:37You do.
22:38A person like you, Michelle, you can't bring me down because I'm a happy person no matter what.
22:45And these are tears of happiness.
22:47Ta-da!
22:48Really?
22:49What about if we had really beautiful, like, black crystals going down the tuxedo?
22:55Not crystals.
22:56We don't want it to be gaudy.
22:58What if we offset the color?
22:59Thank you, Sam.
23:00We have to make it so that they look chic, not tricky.
23:04Okay.
23:05I'm trying to stay positive and be upbeat, but I am upset.
23:09I cannot express who I am as a designer.
23:12Oh, sweetie.
23:15It's just really hard, but, you know, just trying to be strong.
23:22I can't even watch it.
23:24I know.
23:25Why are you having such difficulty?
23:27What's the matter?
23:28Today has been really hard for me.
23:30But what's going on?
23:32I've just been second guessing myself the whole day.
23:35You know that doesn't work.
23:36You need a hug.
23:37I'm so scared to be in the bottom again and go home.
23:45Oh, God.
23:46That's really hard to watch back, no?
23:51Yes.
23:52Liana, your breakdown, your meltdown, which was totally justifiable, but what led to that?
23:59Do you remember kind of the breaking point?
24:01I was doing so well in the competition, and that one challenge got me, and I made, like,
24:06five different versions, and I just, and once you go into that dark place, I just couldn't
24:12pull myself out, and I just kept drowning.
24:14I just had to get it done, and then you can't get, I couldn't get out.
24:17Right, so you just spin out of control.
24:19That was the first time I felt insecure.
24:21Daniel, it felt, for want of a better word, like you were really falling apart there.
24:26Yeah.
24:27That was really tough, right?
24:29It was, but, you know, I've always believed at the end of the day, I was supposed to go through
24:34that to make me a better person.
24:37Michelle, I'm watching you, and you're still like, what is he talking about?
24:41You're still so confused by it, because you were adamant you didn't say 21.
24:45I didn't say that.
24:46And it was really frustrating for you.
24:48It still is.
24:49Yeah, I can tell by the way your face is, you're watching it like...
24:51It's absolutely freaking ridiculous.
24:53I said in a critique, I don't think, and I chose one number, and it happened to be 21,
24:59because they asked for something youthful.
25:01And I said that number, and he got it all twisted in his mustache, and freaked out on me.
25:07And it was not fair to me, at all.
25:09And I still don't think it's fair to me.
25:11I think for their situation, because on the runway the judges kept badgering Daniel to be younger,
25:16that he just got in his head this thing, because he's talking about the judges like,
25:19okay, I need to be younger, and she's my partner, she just said it.
25:22I think that's why it was like, deeper for Daniel than it was for, yeah.
25:26The only other thing that bothered me is that day when we ended, you gave me a hug on camera.
25:30Daniel, I want nothing but you to make the most beautiful thing that you want to make.
25:35It's going to be amazing.
25:36My girl, get over it, I blacked out.
25:38And then when we left the work room, you said, you were walking out, you said,
25:41I'm still effing pissed, and I thought that was wrong to do, because you hug me on camera,
25:46and then you walk out that you're still mad.
25:48Of course I'm still mad.
25:49Mad and anger doesn't go away automatically with a hug.
25:52But that was like a camera show, that was like wrong.
25:54Oh, please, I don't even know the cameras are around.
25:56You, like, forget what's going on.
25:58That's not being truthful.
25:59It is being truthful, those are my feelings.
26:02I don't understand that.
26:04You can hug and be mad.
26:06This is definitely not over.
26:08We're going to take a quick break, and we will be right back.
26:12Coming up next.
26:13You never won a challenge.
26:15I came in doubting myself.
26:16He is obviously hurting.
26:17Why do you think you do that?
26:25Welcome back.
26:26Now we're going to get to the bottom of this.
26:28The only other thing that bothered me is that for that day when we ended,
26:31you gave me a hug on camera, and then when we left the work room,
26:34you said, I'm still effing pissed.
26:36Because that's not being truthful.
26:37It is being truthful.
26:38Those are my feelings.
26:40I don't understand that.
26:41You can hug and be mad.
26:43Michelle's not fake.
26:44That's the thing that's so unbelievable about the comment.
26:46It was puzzling to me.
26:47I was just puzzled by that.
26:48She, there's not an ounce of fakeness in her body.
26:50No.
26:51Don't believe it.
26:52I think there's just something that, with the communication between Daniel and I,
26:55it just doesn't always, apparently.
26:57It's okay.
26:58I'm okay.
27:00I love how it's always okay and fun.
27:04It's obviously not okay and fun.
27:06Yeah.
27:07Like, he's obviously hurting.
27:08Yeah.
27:09Yeah.
27:10Why do you think you do that?
27:11I do that because through my life, through my journey, I've had a lot of downs.
27:17What?
27:18You got me good on that one.
27:19All right.
27:20So, it's always better for me to look at the positive.
27:25When things are bad, turn it around and make it positive.
27:29You were bullied.
27:30Mm-hmm.
27:31And you said, you mentioned there were some addiction issues earlier on.
27:34Mm-hmm.
27:35Yes.
27:36Do you think this is why, you know, you're so positive now?
27:39Yes.
27:40I went through my journeys through life and I have no regrets.
27:43And you know what?
27:44And if I can help somebody, which I've already done.
27:47Yeah.
27:48I'm so happy about that.
27:51I have people telling me, thank you for being open about my addiction.
27:59Yeah.
28:00About my situation, through my depression, through substance abuse, through all of that.
28:06And at the end of the day, I've won that way.
28:11I agree.
28:12I'm going to give you a hard one.
28:15Oh.
28:16That's sweet.
28:17That's a great time.
28:18That's awesome.
28:19Michelle, congratulations, my love.
28:22Well done.
28:23Really, really well done.
28:25Now, you had quite the time during the season, but you stuck it out and you prevailed.
28:31Let's take a little look at your journey.
28:33Michelle Lesniak Franklin, 30 fedorable.
28:39We are designing a prom dress for the punk rock girl.
28:44I think you guys did a really brilliant, successful job.
28:47Michelle, you are the winner of this challenge.
28:50Michelle, you are the clear winner of this challenge.
28:53Your look will be produced and sold at Lord & Taylor.
28:56It is the highlight of my career.
28:58Stanley and Michelle, you are the winning team.
29:02Please do not give me a t-shirt and a pair of pants.
29:07Michelle, we're about to send you home, but we're going to give you one last shot.
29:12Oh, I've never cried so hard in my life.
29:15It's hard to get super excited about a second chance when you feel like even your second chance won't be good enough.
29:22Maybe my point of view is not the one that wants to be heard.
29:27This is a comeback.
29:28Thanks, Nina.
29:30Watching my 12 ladies, I couldn't feel more proud.
29:34Michelle!
29:35Oh, my God.
29:36You are the winner of Project Runway.
29:38Congratulations.
29:39Thank you, honey.
29:40Mwah!
29:41Mwah!
29:43I just want to cry.
29:44I know.
29:45It's so...
29:46It's very emotional.
29:47And you were just said when we were watching that you've never cried as hard as you did in one of those scenes.
29:52I almost quit.
29:53What they didn't...
29:54You didn't see is that I almost quit.
29:56That I almost walked out and wasn't going to do it.
30:00Everyone was leaving.
30:01You know, they're flying to Europe.
30:03I'm glad that I had two there because he really made me focus.
30:07It's okay.
30:08Oh, Lord.
30:09Me too.
30:10It's okay.
30:11What did you say to her?
30:12Yeah.
30:13And she's a very strong designer.
30:15That's why I was like, it's going to be a good collection.
30:18I'm a fighter and I'm not going to give up.
30:20And I realized, like, if I did walk out that door, what a loser.
30:24Right.
30:25Like, what a big loser to give up.
30:27A monumental win.
30:28Are you going to carry on?
30:29What are you going to do?
30:30What's the future hold?
30:31Hopefully doing a lot of collaborations with people here.
30:35I know that Stanley and I have talked about doing...
30:37Our dress that we did for the avant-garde was just ridiculous.
30:40And we just need to do something like that together.
30:42That's a great idea.
30:43Joe and I, I had such a great time working with him on the sweaters,
30:46that it's definitely something that I want to do in the future as well.
30:49Joe, I mean, you have a very successful sweater business, am I right?
30:52Yeah, it's doing good.
30:54How was it to see your work on the runway, Michelle's finale?
30:58It was really exciting.
31:00Well, Patricia, for all intents and purposes, you will runner up.
31:04Yay!
31:09Your kids must be super impressed.
31:11I am just so grateful that I did make it that far.
31:15Because you never won a challenge.
31:17At the end of the day, you didn't actually win one challenge.
31:19I never did win a challenge.
31:20I never did win a challenge.
31:21And every time I did something, I said, I'm going to...
31:23I know it's something new.
31:24It's taking, you know, a big leap.
31:26You're taking a chance.
31:28It was such a huge honor for me.
31:30Stanley, you were third.
31:32Yeah.
31:33Well done.
31:34Congratulations.
31:36How do you feel about that?
31:38Do you regret not being maybe as prepared as you could have been
31:42when you came to the finale?
31:43Oh, absolutely.
31:44I could have been completely prepared.
31:45Why weren't you prepared?
31:46Um, I had a lot done.
31:48But in the end, when the judges wanted me to flip-flop and change things,
31:51you know, if I had more done coming in, I would have had more time to edit.
31:55This was kind of a hard thing for me.
31:57In what way?
31:58It just was...
31:59My sister had passed away like a year before.
32:01Oh, I'm so sorry.
32:02And we were super close.
32:03Trying out for the show was just something, a little journey of my own.
32:06I came in doubting myself, and I left, um, not doubting myself.
32:11And I have all these faces to thank for that, because they've all helped me on my journey.
32:15Aw.
32:16And it's been like, it's been amazing.
32:17Aw.
32:18Very well said, and you had a fantastic collection.
32:20Yeah.
32:21Daniel, my dear, you had a very tough elimination.
32:26Daniel, I'm sorry, that means you're out.
32:30I'm okay.
32:31Are you really?
32:32No, but, you know, come on.
32:37You know, I did the best I could.
32:40Well, you should feel very proud.
32:52We're gonna take a quick break, but we're gonna finish this when we come back.
32:57Coming up next, let's talk about the judges.
33:00They didn't like me at all.
33:01You won.
33:02Right.
33:03Right.
33:04Daniel, my dear, you had a very tough elimination.
33:19Let it out, Daniel.
33:20I know.
33:21And, um, it was hard getting to that point, and, you know, they were very hard on me.
33:29Okay.
33:30Mm-hmm.
33:31What I ended up doing, you know, the whole collection was to me beautiful.
33:35I'm so proud of myself.
33:38I'm so proud.
33:39All these doors have opened for me already.
33:42That's the cool thing.
33:43Yeah.
33:44But...
33:45You are so lovable.
33:46You're such a positive energy, and I salute you for that.
33:51Thank all of y'all.
33:56This is like, where is my whip?
33:58It's scary.
33:59This is probably the worst construction I've seen.
34:02Mayday, mayday, we have a problem.
34:04I think it looks a cross between a tablecloth and a napkin.
34:08The mushy bust.
34:09I'm sorry.
34:10Don't be sorry.
34:11It's all his fault.
34:15Let's talk about the judges.
34:17Do any of you think that any particular judge maybe was rooting for you, or did not really have your back?
34:24Yes.
34:25I think Zach understood me.
34:27We have completely different aesthetics, but he just, for some reason, understood who I was, where I was coming from,
34:33and got it.
34:34Samantha, I love that you used a material from the florist non-topically.
34:39It's always exciting to see almost a textile built out of layering.
34:43And I respected him for that because we're so different.
34:46So for him to step outside himself and his vision and understand where I was coming from, I appreciated that.
34:52So the fact that you were eliminated in an episode when Zach wasn't there, do you think that had anything to do with it?
34:58A little bit, actually.
35:00I think Kristen Siriano was a very good judge because he was actually in our places.
35:05If you want to have that great, simple tank blouse, it has to be the most sought-after tank blouse that everybody wants to buy.
35:12I thought he was a really good judge, just because he was, you know, a contestant.
35:16I thought that Nina got me. I think that she understood my aesthetic, and we had a good rapport throughout the whole competition.
35:22I absolutely love this. Really well done.
35:27You were on the same page.
35:28Oh, yeah, absolutely.
35:29Michelle, how about you?
35:30Oh, they didn't like me at all.
35:32It just looks like linguine.
35:34It is not special enough. She will definitely go on the worst dress list.
35:38Who didn't like you, any of them? None of them.
35:40That's not true.
35:41I really don't.
35:42Tim loved you.
35:43Well, Tim's on a judge, though.
35:45Tim loved me.
35:46Right, but I never got a connection. I never felt...
35:52Her work was good, so they couldn't deny it, so she won, you know?
35:55Patricia, how about you? Do you feel that any connection with any of the judges?
35:59I think I connected with them all on a different level.
36:02I think Heidi specifically was very vocal.
36:05I loved it. I think it's great. To have the idea to do that, I think, is genius.
36:10Your pieces do look like something that we haven't seen before.
36:13Patricia could do no wrong in Heidi's eyes. No wrong.
36:16I agree.
36:17Patricia, do you feel like it was unfair?
36:19No, because if you believe in something, then stand up for it.
36:22Ow.
36:23Oh?
36:24Drop the mic. Drop the mic.
36:27Done.
36:28That was a Jay-Z moment.
36:30You guys had a phenomenal lineup of judges.
36:34You know, you had Susan Sarandon, Jordana Brewster, Kristen Davis.
36:39Who was your favorite?
36:41Bad Midler.
36:42Bad Midler.
36:43Bad Midler.
36:44Oh, my Lord.
36:46Okay, let's talk about everyone's favorite mentor, Mr. Tim Gunn.
36:50Aw, yay.
36:55Good morning, designers.
36:56Good morning.
36:57Good morning.
36:58This looks like a wow.
36:59Yeah.
37:00I'm doing a sleepless jacket.
37:02Then it's a vest.
37:03Yes.
37:04I'll use the word, wowed.
37:07Conundrum.
37:08Black luster.
37:09It's wackadoodle.
37:10More exuberant.
37:11Ubiquitous.
37:12Good grief.
37:13Make it work.
37:16What's your favorite thing about Mr. Tim Gunn?
37:17He cares.
37:18He's just so real.
37:19He's real.
37:20He's genuine.
37:21I just want you to really believe in what you're doing.
37:22I mean, you're incredibly talented.
37:23You're here, for goodness sake.
37:24I know.
37:25He knew our names.
37:26We were still learning each other's names, and he knew all of us.
37:29True.
37:30The fact that he took the time for that, it was everything I had ever dreamed he would be.
37:34I'm sure he knew much more than your names as well.
37:36Probably.
37:37Studies.
37:38He's just so honest and real, and you feel so comfortable with Tim as well.
37:43He's a little bit straight up and down.
37:45It's all about silhouette, proportion, and fit.
37:48Every single person's aesthetic he understands.
37:50When you explain what you're trying to do, he will come in and meet you where you are.
37:54He's better than Santa.
37:55Better than Santa.
37:56Yeah.
37:57Yeah.
37:58Better than Santa, you could say.
37:59Michelle, I heard that Tim really pushed the judges off camera to keep you on the show,
38:04and that's why you got your do or die moment.
38:06I was in there with Heidi saying, she has to stay.
38:12How does that make you feel?
38:14It's pretty emotional that he had so much passion for what I was doing, and that he would
38:20support me in that way.
38:23It's pretty incredible, because without him, I wouldn't obviously have gotten that far.
38:28I wouldn't have won.
38:29We are going to take a short break, but we will be right back.
38:33Do not go anywhere.
38:35Coming up next.
38:36Do you guys have any advice?
38:39Don't compromise.
38:40Do what you're strong at.
38:41Bring your knives.
38:42Go, go, go.
38:43Come, go, go.
38:44Come.
38:45Go, go, go.
38:46Go, go.
38:47Go, go, go, go.
38:48Oh, go.
38:49Go.
38:50Go.
38:51Go.
38:522020
38:54If there's one or two things you could maybe do differently about your experience, what would they be?
39:01Cindy, I would have spent more time on my own work and I felt a big
39:08Responsibility to help everyone on the team. I thought it was important to bring our team up
39:15Do you think you succeeded in bringing them up? No, why not? Well, because we were on the bottom
39:22Stanley I would have spent a little bit more time on my collection in in Los Angeles for me
39:27It's just stick to my gut feeling just don't listen to anybody. That's all I should speak up because I didn't speak up and the judge
39:34It didn't hurt my voice
39:40How has project runway changed your lives you're picked up a lot you get picked up a lot at the gym all the time
39:47It does not happen for me. What happened? I don't get picked up at all. I get picked up less
39:52So anyone out there we can turn this into a dating show. No problem
39:56My brother came out brother is he's the guitar player for Maroon 5 so my brother and I were at an event together and a group of
40:05Screaming teenage girls run up to us, and I'm so used to this he gets recognized all the time
40:10So I'm like putting out my hand ready to take a picture like okay. Yeah, and they hand their phone to my brother
40:16And they're like will you take a picture we want a picture of the man and my brother loves it
40:26He's he's like number one cheerleader. He's like finally some pressure off me. I got recognized in
40:32Virginia a guy just came to me and like two
40:37I mean you've got a very distinct look too. I mean look at these fabulous shoes
40:41You guys have any advice for anyone who wants to go on project runway next season follow your heart yes

41:07Yeah, that's the best you can do check your ego at the door bring your knives check your ego at the door and bring your knives
41:17I think this has been very cathartic. It was so good catching up with all of you. I have had such a nice time
