03:27we're at a house in the Hollywood Hills and the view is breathtaking just look at all this it's
03:34very chic and clean that's how my design should be so designers welcome to the Hollywood Hills I thought
03:41that this incredible vantage point would serve as a wonderful source of inspiration
03:47for this your red carpet challenge so this is your biggest challenge yet because this challenge
03:54determines who among you will move forward to New York Fashion Week it's big before you start to
04:01sketch I have a wonderful surprise I want to introduce you to an expert in the red carpet her name
04:09is
04:09Kelty Knight and she's an on-air correspondent for the Emmy-nominated show The Insider wow Kelty
04:15hey hey Kelty Knight is well put together she looks hot I'm actually inspired by her look well hello there
04:23you're as breathtaking as The View well thank you Kelty you know red carpet events can make or break the
04:28career of a designer absolutely and you all know the very first question we ask any celebrity when they
04:34arrive on the red carpet of course is who are you wearing and the red carpet is a platform for
04:40you
04:40designers to showcase their most high-end glamorous fashion-forward looks and all eyes are on the
04:47celebrity and you when those flash bulbs start to light up all of my favorite big red carpet moments
04:53designers always have the same three things in common drama color and fit remember this is not a
05:00time to play it safe you have to take a risk so designers you will have 30 minutes to sketch
05:06and then we're
05:06going shopping at mood where you will have a budget of $400 we will go from mood to your new
05:13work room at the
05:14Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising you will have the remainder of today at FIDM to work and all day
05:21tomorrow
05:21so Kelty thank you so much thank you and I will see you all in the red carpet yes you
05:29will okay happy
05:30sketching everyone off you go designing for a red carpet gown it has to be fashion-forward high-end and
05:38glamorous I want to do an asymmetrical look with the corset and then I want to do a form-fitting
05:44skirt with
05:45the train in the back I'm looking at this gorgeous open view and I immediately think I want to do
05:52an open back
05:53so it drags me to doing the train everything about this view is inspiring this gown
06:01I really want to go for that old Hollywood feel and I feel like any red carpet you definitely have
06:08to have something that touches the red carpet so I would not want to create a cocktail dress or anything
06:13shorter I am instantly inspired by the valley just the V and I want to create my own textile design
06:23I'm not
06:24too sure what my silhouettes gonna be yet but I should have enough money to get enough fabric to make
06:30a big long gown if I want to
06:32all right designers time is up let's head off to mood and say goodbye to paradise
06:44designers welcome to mood Los Angeles your time starts now go go go do you have anything like
06:55this for this challenge I really want to give a pop of color and I see a sequin I think
07:00that it will
07:00give a great effect on the runway I'm taking a risk with color I feel that I haven't done that
07:05it's not a
07:06challenge to play it safe okay well I'm not playing it safe with this let's go thank you
07:10Tim designers you have 10 minutes 10 minutes everyone I looked at that I find a really gorgeous
07:19mesh sequin fabric and it's extremely elegant and that in place of an open back I think it just be
07:26extremely striking designers you have one minute remaining I find black tulle one minute everybody
07:32I find this gold trimming I've got another trimming I want to make sure that I have enough just in
07:39case
07:39time is up you said 397 perfect all right come with me thank you mood thank you oh my gosh
07:54FIVM isn't
07:57this cozy it is hi welcome to your workroom at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles
08:07thank you beautiful huh yes you have until 11 o'clock tonight and you will have all day tomorrow all
08:15right
08:15thank you thank you thank you what time is it oh we have less than 45 minutes I see many
08:32different
08:33versions but it's just not you could tell it I see you I see you start saying that I see
08:38you I'm at the
08:40parade to the fashion guys okay you guys it's 11 let's go home I gotta figure it out I don't
08:49know
08:49what it is but Edmund you need to get yourself together on this one Candace we're in LA this is
09:01blowing my mind and it's our last working day for our last challenge before New York Fashion Week
09:06you ready for this morning yes I'm so excited to get back into the room did you figure out your
09:12design hopefully when we get to the work room today it'll come to me I feel like life's about to
09:16begin go hard or go home that's my exactly so today my plan is triangles triangles and triangles I look
09:30like
09:30a kangaroo with a pouch I know my textile design I'm creating is gonna take forever like I need to
09:36get
09:37those pieces cut and have them fit then sew the whole entire thing together it's gonna take me every
09:42last minute speed it up Dempsey what a quiet room it makes me very happy it means there's serious work
10:03going on which is good because as you know this is your biggest challenge ever so I'm gonna check in
10:10with you how's Candace past few challenges I've taken a lot of notes from Zach there's borderline
10:16between sexy and trashy and so I really wanted to bring a very strong elegant sleek silhouette originally
10:25I was playing around with cutting out the whole hip crashing exactly why the gold trim well I was just
10:34playing around with it but I feel like it's taking away and now you feel like it's taking away yeah
10:38it
10:38is what you've done with this textile is really magic but the rest of it can't have any missteps yeah
10:47everything has to be flawless if it does flawless yeah carry on how are you Ashley I wanted to do
10:57something fun and funky and so what I loved about this fabric is that when you move it it changes
11:02colors tell me about the design of this it's gonna be one side with the sleeve and then the other
11:08side
11:08is just gonna be bare arm this is the part that's going to be showing the skin here and this
11:13is of course
11:18I'm not gonna let you're making me worried now all right I have a responsibility to you to be direct
11:25I
11:28feel that you're over designing you want for there to be a focal point and the difficulty that I have
11:36with this is that my eyes going all over the place I want you to feel strong and confident about
11:41whatever
11:42it is that you put down that runway there are only four of you yeah and I don't want you
11:46to be the
11:47person who doesn't go to New York Fashion Week yeah I don't either hi Kelly hi I'm eager to hear
12:03what
12:03it is that you're doing when I did the unconventional challenge the first one with the cards I really
12:08enjoyed that technique I'd like to play with like depth and texture but not have it too in your face
12:13so
12:13that's why I put the mesh over to sort of give it like a print I think it's beautiful you
12:18do the
12:18textile that you've created yes let me ask you this are you a long skirt person no I'm not a
12:25long
12:25skirt person I know you're not but I doesn't look like you I know well if I had my way
12:30I would do the
12:31jumpsuit but then I was like pamper carpet is that okay it happens if you can make an elegant
12:39captivating pantsuit for the red carpet mm-hmm that was my I think you could be assured of a
12:44space at New York Fashion Week a jumpsuit it could be red carpet I don't know which red carpet I
12:53hope
12:53that she executes it well because if not the judges will tear her apart so how's Edmund I am trying
12:59to
12:59figure it out this fabric really kind of inspired me and spoke oh you were definitely excited it I still
13:05am I just don't know what type of music to make with it you know I'm gonna quote a dear
13:10friend
13:11fear never conquered anything so don't be afraid of it all right I'll be fearless I think my biggest
13:18competition is Edmund all right I am too good good good he has the same exact drive I have I'm
13:25gonna give
13:26it my all and have no regrets at the end Edmund has the same mentality and I think having that
13:30mental
13:31hunger is what's gonna bring both of us to the end I'm excited about the potential in this room and
13:37that's why I want this to be such a dynamic competition among the four of you that those
13:44judges won't know what to do yeah you have until 9 o'clock tonight we are all flying back to
13:50New York
13:50tomorrow the morning of the runway show first thing you will have your model fitting thank you
13:569 o'clock I gotta move I still have a little leggy and I'm not even halfway done this leg
14:09what did I get
14:10myself into Candace to do or not to do been here this long this is the final challenge all my
14:26chips are on the table the rules are made to be broken and I'm gonna go ahead and break the
14:38rules and
14:39create something short and awesome Edmund is definitely scissor happy with that dress he's
14:45just cutting it shorter and shorter but if that's what he wants to do go for it did you get
14:54to a good
14:55stopping point like where you can finish up back home I think so yeah I have a little bit more
15:01work
15:01to do on this gown but I love the direction that it went in I think it's gonna look really
15:06striking on
15:07her Candace I'm calling her out right here it's just black I need to put a zipper figure out what
15:15I'm
15:15gonna do to the bottom neckline I have a lot of stuff to do the pressure is on there are
15:24four and then
15:25there will be three I want to be excited and feel good this is the last challenge but all I
15:33can think
15:34about are these pants gonna fit or not I just want to get back to New York all I can
15:49think about are
15:50these pants gonna fit or not it's been fun I am freaking out on the inside I can't get it
15:55out of my
15:55head goodbye LA I just feel like I'm going to New York Fashion Week I could be wrong but I
16:10feel good it
16:12hasn't hit me that it's the last runway I hope that when I do go home I'm going to be
16:17creating a
16:18collection for Fashion Week I think it's amazing how far we've all come thought about that last
16:24night oh stars red carpet challenge and actually look at you all too matte black and spangly gold
16:35all right designers I'm going to send in your models you will have a half an hour with them then
16:40you
16:40will have an hour to send them to the Mary Kay color design studio in the Sally Beauty studio and
16:46you know you will need to use the just fab accessories wall to style them if there were
16:50ever a challenge when you have to be just very thoughtful and strategic it's this one I will
16:55send in your models and I will see you soon okay thank you as soon as she walks in she's
17:11like hello
17:11how was blah blah blah I'm like take your pants off right now it's really tight so let's try it
17:16on
17:16now you gotta put these pants on they gotta fit we gotta get this done I know if I can
17:20get this
17:20zipper up we're gonna be in amazing shape if it yeah I can breathe again it looks amazing but the
17:36top
17:36of the corset it almost wants to expose the boob and I can't have that happen so I'm gonna put
17:41a strap
17:42up here I didn't want to have to put a strap on the dress because I felt like it took
17:46away from my
17:47design but I felt like that's the only thing that I could do to keep it from falling I'm just
17:52gonna
17:52hand stitch this at the end so I'm like three inches below I am deciding to change the look of
18:01the dress
18:02again I don't have a lot of time but it will look better shorter and what about the back turn
18:07around
18:08how's it feel I put it on her and it fits like a glove I think this close to the
18:15end everything
18:16needs to be absolutely positively perfect thanks Lily welcome to the Sally Beauty studio I want her
18:25hair parted down the middle cross-hatched and then put into a bun so you want to see that crisscross
18:31fringing back through here and then this bun is gonna be really contained and really sharp and
18:35clean exactly we got it so who's your girl it's a bronze sequins dress I say iron it straight but
18:42have that like movement like the hair be minimal yeah we'll make it beautiful perfect
18:47yes welcome back from Cali thank you going with the color maybe we could use a little bit of silver
18:56on her eye a little peach pop on the mouth and of course we'll give you a beautiful skin it
19:01will
19:01carry it all the way down it's gonna look awesome amazing with your dress love it I'm thinking for
19:05makeup maybe it's like a light pink lip that one's actually called pink parfait we'll keep the eyes real
19:11bright okay that's your look okay have fun thanks a lot all right designers in 10 minutes you and your
19:21models and I are going down to the runway will everyone be ready yes thank you okay pants fit
19:31check but now I'm like okay I made a crazy printed jumpsuit and everybody else has dresses there can't
19:37be any errors like no missteps everything needs to fit it just needs to look amazing especially
19:42because it's red carpet like it needs to be on point designers and models we're going down to the
19:49runway everyone follow me please everything and anything that I've worked for has led up to this
19:55moment and it's about to happen my heart feels like it's jumping outside of my chest
20:15hi everyone hi welcome to the runway as you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day
20:22you're
20:22out there are four of you here and after tonight there will be three this challenge is a big one
20:29it
20:30decides who moves forward to compete at New York Fashion Week for this challenge you created red
20:37carpet looks we send you to Hollywood to be inspired by the land of glitz and glamour you had two
20:44days
20:44and four hundred dollars to put your look together all right let's say hello to our judges first we
20:50have creative director of Brooks Brothers women and fashion designer Zach Posen hi designers creative
20:57director for Marie Claire magazine Nina Garcia hi everyone hi Nina and our guest judge for today fashion designer
21:05and judge of the upcoming show project runway junior Christian Siriano hello hi hi we also have Tim Gunn
21:12here for the runway show and as you know he is your mentor and will not be judging your looks
21:16that said
21:17he has the Tim Gunn save which he has not used but he doesn't have to if he doesn't want
21:23to we also
21:25have an anonymous runway show which means we the judges do not know which designer created which look when it
21:30walks the runway all right let's start the show my construction is great the color is just perfect
21:52like how the light hits it it's great I know I have that strap on that dress but I hope
21:58it doesn't hurt me
21:59because I really try to fix the issue with fit this is the last runway there is no room for
22:06mistakes
22:19even though I came off two wins back-to-back I am still shaking in my boots because this is
22:25the last
22:26challenge and I just want them to understand my look I want to go to New York Fashion Week so
22:35bad it's all
22:36that's all I've been wanting my whole entire life
22:52when the light hits her it just shines it's shimmering in all the right ways it elongates her she looks
23:01very elegant
23:02it's nice and subtle I think she looks great it's not too much it's just enough she turns and the
23:09train just waterfalls next to her I think I'm going to New York Fashion Week
23:29I put a lot of pressure on myself knowing that okay this is the last challenge and I am feeling
23:35tense
23:35because I don't work with color often this is the challenge that will either send you to New York's
23:43Fashion Week or send you home and I do not want to go home
23:53designers the four of you have the highest and the lowest scores three of you will move forward to
23:59compete at New York Fashion Week and one of you will be out
24:11Candace tell us about your red carpet look my whole entire time on Project Runway I thought
24:16there's a missing piece to my puzzle and I thought I need to show you guys that I can do
24:21sophisticated
24:22sexy and elegant it's definitely more of a quiet version of you yeah I think today's design is safe
24:29but I think there's a level of tastefulness here that I really appreciate you know I did get a little
24:35Nancy Kerrigan from the back I thought Nancy Kerrigan doing like an Elvira number it is a beautiful but it's
24:43beautiful I mean it's gorgeous I'm really happy with this work today it's definitely red carpet ready
24:49thank you it would make a lovely red carpet dress will you be on the best dress I don't know
24:56where
24:56the photographers be hounding you to get this picture not unless Angelina Jolie is wearing it
25:02but it's a very beautiful gown and and it's really giving me another perspective on you as a designer thank
25:09you I agree with everyone I think it's really elegant and beautiful and feels old Hollywood and vintage but
25:15not dated I actually think my favorite part is the cut of kind of the bodice where it's still sheer
25:21underneath the arm I think that's really beautiful it's such a small hidden detail but I think really
25:25flattering for her really well done thank you Kelly tell us about your red carpet look sure doing red carpet
25:33I'm not as familiar with so I really wanted a person and a place and think where they're going so
25:38in my
25:38head what like my dream would be for a red carpet would be like Katy Perry VMA's so I cut
25:44white leather
25:45triangles and I created the textile throughout this I just wanted her to look really sleek and modern and
25:50fun all in one Kelly you keep surprising me in a really good way it is a great jumpsuit but
25:59it's super
26:00sophisticated looking in my eyes can we have a look at the back it is good mm-hmm it's really
26:06good thank
26:07you Heidi that means a lot I think it's cool I don't know if I love it as much as
26:13Heidi does but it's still
26:14cool I still see a girl here which is really important thank you I actually really like this textile
26:20development it has like a holographic quality great fit but it's very you and I think you're you
26:27over this whole competition has really become much more refined it's exciting to see this growth and to
26:35see even where it goes because I don't think you knew you even had this in you you've surprised us
26:40all I
26:41mean I was very skeptical about you making it this far and all of a sudden you found this inner
26:46strength and
26:47really blossomed in front of our eyes Edmund tell us about your red carpet look I wanted to go for
26:53the red carpet
26:54effect but in a more modern way finding this fabric at mood it really spoke to me but it's so
26:59much color
27:00but you want to take a risk and that's something I wanted to make sure that I did I didn't
27:04want to play
27:04too safe this is what I've created so here's the thing you have been from the start one of the
27:11front
27:11runners you have given us some very incredible looks this is probably for me the biggest disappointment
27:19from you this season having said that I also think you took a big risk I like the shortness I
27:27think
27:27it's refreshing on the red carpet everybody expects the long lengths what I do think is the fabric has
27:34taken over it's all about the fabric and very little about you what's interesting about this is there are
27:41those girls that are gonna wear dresses like this on the red carpet but I think the sequin although is
27:46beautiful for some reason to me it feels a bit cheap and a bit dated but at least you use
27:52color
27:52everyone up here is kind of muted so if all these girls were on the carpet maybe she would get
27:56the
27:57most attention Ashley tell us about your red carpet look well I've never really done red carpet but I
28:04definitely wanted to have fun this fabric definitely spoke to me when I saw it at mood and I wanted
28:09to
28:09create something that was asymmetrical and that had one sleeve and that was showing some skin but still sexy
28:14in its way this print is sequins and it's bronze on one side and the other side is silver I
28:20definitely
28:20enjoy creating something that I haven't created yet I actually like this I think it's pretty fabulous and
28:26I think the choice of the sequin was smart it's kind of a matte shine which I think is really
28:30beautiful it
28:31doesn't give you that same kind of dated promy feel I think you definitely have some fit issues for sure
28:37it's almost like the opening's a little too open but what's nice is that it's all one piece it hangs
28:42quite nice it feels luxurious it kind of feels expensive but she still feels cool which I really
28:48like thank you when we think about red carpet it's actually very challenging to keep it restrained and
28:56keep it glamorous and beautiful and interesting I think you did manage to do all that from any angle
29:03she's going to look good because she's got the asymmetry with a bare shoulder she's got the leg
29:09there is three dimension about this dress I think it's a great choice of fabric for the runway and I
29:15don't think it's a good choice of fabric for the red carpet okay I think your model looks smoking hot
29:21I
29:22mean her cleavage is insane it is so good looking in there so I don't mind having that peekaboo right
29:29there because you know she's covered up everywhere else and I think it is incredible what you've managed
29:34to do in two days thank you Ashley thank you we have some questions for the designers models you can
29:42leave
29:42the runway thank you Kelly why should you move forward to compete at New York Fashion Week throughout
29:56this whole entire competition just hearing the feedback from you guys really made me like dig
30:01deep and pull out things that I didn't even know I could do and I feel like this is nowhere
30:07near the end
30:08for me I feel like I just started getting going and there's so much more that I want to show
30:13as much
30:14as I love everyone back at home at the deli like this is all I've ever wanted so it would
30:19be a dream
30:19come true Candace why should you move forward to New York Fashion Week one thing about doing what I
30:26do I always say they're want to make someone love it or hate it never be indifferent about it I
30:32think the
30:32most important thing about a designer is putting your signature never losing your brand DNA I think I've
30:37stood strong within that and I definitely think that I can put it on a show Edmund why should you
30:42go
30:42to Fashion Week this is something that I've dedicated a large portion of my life to I mean I really
30:48love

32:25Hello Heidi, Zach, Nina, Christian
32:28Hello ladies
32:29Shall we begin with Loli wearing Candace?
32:32Yeah, I think it's a beautiful gown
32:34Me too. I like that she still kept her kind of jet victoriana quality there, but it feels modern
32:40Zach there's no darts. It's kind of amazing in the bus. It's pretty great
32:44That is really great because you don't want to have all these seams
32:47Lay flat and be fit. Lay flat. It's nice. Yeah, and she's really wants to put on a show so
32:53she was smart and strategic
32:54Right. Yeah
32:58And we have Christina wearing Kelly. Now keep in mind Kelly created this textile. Well now I'm looking at even
33:05more
33:05It's even more impressive. I'm staggering. What I'm most impressed with is her quality of work. This is complicated
33:14Very yeah, and it fits perfectly she's sequins
33:18I love that there she has reflective pieces underneath and then a kind of foil covered tool on time
33:24very very creative dimension
33:26I'm impressed with I'm impressed too
33:32We have Zorana wearing Edmund and I'm just gonna say from the onset
33:37He knew this was a risk. He knew it but Tim to be honest with you
33:43This was the biggest disappointment for me from Edmund on the runway. Yeah, I don't get it
33:49And we know that he knows how to make clothes. Oh, we know right. Yeah, I mean from the start
33:53Yeah, that it's almost like the fabric got the best of them. Yeah, I agree
34:01And open you may step forward wearing Ashley. I don't know you guys. I would rock this thing. I would
34:07I kind of love it
34:08I look at it capture the light this will capture the light this isn't everyone's taste
34:13But I do think for the red carpet there's gonna be girls that are gonna want to wear this
34:17She definitely knows how to cut clothing and get a garment out there
34:24Thank you, Tim, thank you

37:03you both are incredibly talented.
37:06But unfortunately, one of you will be out.
37:11Ashley, the color of your dress was beautiful.
37:16And I personally loved it.
37:18The others, not so much.
37:23You've had a bit of a rollercoaster here on Project Runway.
37:27You've been on the top,
37:28but you've also been in the bottom quite a bit.
37:33Edmund,
37:34you have created some beautiful clothing here on Project Runway.
37:38You have blown us away time and time again,
37:41which is why we were so disappointed by your look today.
37:44The dress was too short and tasteless.
37:50Ashley,
37:52Edmund,
37:53one of you will be out.
37:58Ashley.
38:05You're in.
38:07You're going to New York Fashion Week.
38:12Congrats.
38:15Aw.
38:19We can't wait to see your collection.
38:21It just proves to me that all my hard work has paid off for this moment.
38:27You guys,
38:27you don't know how much this means to me.
38:29You're in.
38:30You can leave the runway.
38:33I'm so excited that I'm going to New York Fashion Week.
38:37Who can say that they're going to New York Fashion Week?
38:40This is my chance to make my plus-size collection
38:43that I've always wanted to create.
38:47Hi.
38:48I'm going.
38:49You're going.
38:50Are you kidding?
38:52Are you kidding me?
38:55I'm definitely waiting for someone to pinch me right now
38:58because this doesn't feel real.
39:01I am going.
39:02Ashley Nell Tipton is going to New York Fashion Week.
39:04I'm so excited.
39:06I can't wait.
39:08Holy s***.
39:15Edmund,
39:16I'm sorry.
39:17That means you're out.
39:18All right.
39:19We're all so disappointed
39:21because we really wanted to see your collection
39:24at New York Fashion Week.
39:25I really wanted to present.
39:27I mean,
39:27I feel privileged to have been a part of Project Runway
39:29and I wouldn't change anything about it.
39:33It's been a wonderful experience
39:34and it's a pleasure meeting you all
39:35and getting your feedback and critique all along.
39:37I really appreciate it.
39:39In the end,
39:40we had to be fair
39:40and make the decision based on this challenge.
39:44It was very hard.
39:55This is a tough one here.
39:56This is a shock for me.
39:58I get here to where literally
39:59I can reach out and touch Fashion Week
40:01and I can look out in the audience
40:03and see my family
40:04and now I have to absorb the fact
40:06that there won't be Fashion Week for me this year.
40:10Yes.
40:11Going home.
40:13No.
40:14Yeah.
40:16My time has come.
40:18There's no way.
40:19I try to suck it up
40:21and accept the decisions that I've made.
40:23No one forced me to select the fabric.
40:25No one forced me to create that silhouette.
40:26That was something that I chose to do myself.
40:28But, you know,
40:29the last challenge,
40:30I mean,
40:30I get this close
40:31and I let it slip out of my hand.
40:34No one forced me to do myself.
40:36No one forced me to do myself.
40:36No one forced me to do myself.
