00:00Let's go back out to the Make It Right call, Kyle Wright Highline,
00:02and we bring in a homie, Tyvus Powell.
00:05Tyvus, good morning.
00:05How you feeling, brother?
00:06What's up, Tyvus?
00:07I am doing wonderful.
00:08How you gentlemen doing this morning?
00:10Pretty good.
00:11You would agree with that, right?
00:12Chocolate City ain't a bad destination if you still going to be in the NFL, right?
00:17Nah, I mean, to any chance to still be in the NFL, you got to take that,
00:22and that's a good feeling in the world.
00:23I don't even know who's the – I mean, you're probably going to play a lot.
00:27They got Bill, Krosky, Merritt, or whoever, whatever his name is.
00:30So they'll be fine.
00:32He'll probably get a lot of spin there.
00:33He's a guy that can catch the ball out the backfield, good third down back.
00:38So, yeah, I think he'll get some spin there.
00:39I think that's a good spot for him.
00:41Ty, man, when you look at early on in free agency,
00:43just early on in this new league year, the trades that's been made,
00:47the additions that's been made on both sides of the ball by Andrew Berry,
00:51how are you liking what's been done so far,
00:54and what is a move that you still would like to see get made?
00:58Well, I mean, I think that he went into this offseason
01:01knowing that he had to fix the offensive line.
01:03I think that, you know, his motivation was what Chicago did.
01:07You always refer to the Denver Broncos as being a team
01:10that don't have a lot of elite playmakers on the outside,
01:13doesn't have the elite running back, but yet they went that far into the playoffs.
01:17They had that successful of a season, and it's because their offensive line,
01:20according to PFF, was the best in the NFL.
01:22So I think that people are starting to realize how important that offensive line is.
01:26You know, obviously, if you've got the top five quarterback,
01:29they can overcome some of those things.
01:31But if you don't and you've got a young guy,
01:33you've got to make sure that you're protecting that guy.
01:35And the best way to do that is to make sure you fix that offensive line.
01:38So I love the fact that they did that.
01:40Losing Devin Bush was probably the thing that I don't think any Browns fan wanted to do.
01:44But when you replace him with a guy like Quincy Williams,
01:46and you listen to him talk,
01:47and you understand that he played his best ball when Coach Rudy was his linebacker coach with the Jets,
01:52it excites you.
01:53It makes you think that, you know, put him and Carson Schlesinger together.
01:56If Carson Schlesinger continues to progress and take the next step,
01:59which, I mean, this guy who won Defense Rookie of the Year,
02:02he continues to go.
02:03Next thing we're looking for out of him is an all-pro type season,
02:05and I think he's totally capable of that.
02:08I love the fact that yesterday they went and got the defensive tackle from the 49ers
02:12because, you know, obviously we have Malik Collins,
02:14and you got Mason Graham, and you got Mike Hall.
02:17But, you know, once Malik Collins went down,
02:19things look different as far as stopping the run goes.
02:22So you want to make sure that you got bodies
02:24and got guys that can come in and get that done.
02:26And I think that addition on the defensive tackle was nice.
02:29Now, you asked me, what do I want to see?
02:31I think everybody want to see the explosiveness on the outside,
02:33something at the wide receiver position.
02:36Obviously, a lot of people think that we're going to do that in the draft,
02:39whether that be at 6 or 24.
02:41And you obviously want them to do that left tackle thing.
02:44I've seen Rasheed Walker went to the Panthers yesterday, I believe it was.
02:48Yeah, one-year deal.
02:49Yeah, so he's off the books.
02:51He's off the board.
02:52I know a lot of people are like, we could have did that deal.
02:54But I think they want to go long-term with it.
02:56So it seems to me that they're definitely going to use one of those picks
03:01on an offensive tackle.
03:03I guess I'll go there next with you, Tyvus,
03:05because I feel like there's been this kind of groundswell this week
03:09from the fan base that because of the resources that Andrew Barry invested
03:13in the offensive line this week,
03:15that they're going to be more inclined to go wide receiver at 6.
03:19Do you agree with that, subscribe to that, and think that that's true?
03:22Or do you think tackle or even maybe best player available,
03:25if it's a defensive guy, is still on the table for Cleveland?
03:30I think that the more I think about it, the more I think that they'll trade down
03:35and then probably go offensive tackle.
03:37I won't rule out the fact that they might make a trade for a wide receiver.
03:41I mean, that was one of Andrew Barry's best moves when you think about Amari Cooper.
03:45You know, a lot of – it gets quiet before it gets loud.
03:48I'm expecting, you know, the owner's meeting is next month.
03:50I'm expecting something to come out of that owner's meeting,
03:53somebody to strike a deal in some type of way.
03:55But I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them making a trade
03:58because I think that, you know, you can get a guy – I don't know who it'd be.
04:03You know, obviously a lot of people want Brian Thomas Jr.
04:06A lot of people want Marvin Harrison.
04:08I wouldn't rule any of it out if it is one of those guys.
04:10I mean, those guys have been in the league for this long
04:14and they've had a little bit of success in the league.
04:16So you would probably rather go there than have to depend on the rookie.
04:20So – and they're going to be on their rookie deal still.
04:22So I think that that's a good way to address it as well.
04:28Ty, we had a caller, man, who called in.
04:31He came with this idea and this kind of on the line of view
04:34because he's expecting something to happen with a trade for a wide receiver.
04:37And I think it was Eugene.
04:39And Eugene said he could see a situation to where the Browns draft Caleb Downs
04:44and trade Grant Dillpit for Marvin Harrison Jr.
04:48and I said to him, I said, well, I think some type of draft compensation
04:52would go along with that.
04:53What do you think about that hypothetical situation right there?
04:56You're going to replace Grant Dillpit with Caleb Downs
05:01and draft a wide receiver.
05:03Is that what you said?
05:03Or trade for a wide receiver?
05:05So the thing was you draft Caleb Downs at six
05:07and then you trade Grant Dillpit
05:10and I think me and Spencer said you would have to probably give up a third-round pick
05:13and you get Marvin Harrison Jr. in return.
05:16Sign me up.
05:19Sign me up.
05:20Sign me up.
05:20I'll tell you, we could sprint that deal today.
05:22I don't think the Cardinals would do that, but sign me up.
05:26That's a win.
05:27Andrew Barry, do that.
05:28Build that man a statue.
05:35Tyvus, along the lines of the offensive line,
05:37we were just kind of talking about this before we brought you in.
05:40Yes, Andrew Barry used a lot of resources on that group
05:44and that's what we all wanted to see.
05:46And it is the most important positions, theoretically, in football.
05:49It all kind of starts in the trenches, we know.
05:51But to really know if it's going to be fixed is going to be about a lot more
05:55than just putting names on a depth chart and signing guys, right?
05:59Can you just speak to how difficult it is for those guys up front to kind of come together,
06:07especially when they're all coming from different places,
06:09and the chemistry that it takes for an offensive line to mesh together and be a successful group?
06:16Yeah, I mean, obviously, it's going to be different terminology because it's a different playbook.
06:20It's something that all of them are going to have to work through.
06:23That's why, to me, it's so important that guys are healthy for OTAs, you know.
06:27And I don't like people missing OTAs or, like, just watching from the side and stuff like that.
06:32You need to physically take those reps.
06:34OTAs is the best because it's not physical.
06:36It's not pads on the offensive and defensive line, you know.
06:39So those guys can really, you know, talk about the twists and the stunts and things like that
06:44and really get a feel for how guys are going to do those things.
06:48And then you ride that same chemistry up into the training camp.
06:52Now you guys have seen.
06:53What you really want to do on the offensive line to get them prepared is you want to give them
06:56every twist, stunt, blitz, anything,
07:00everything that possibly can be thrown that way so when they see it, they can make a plan of how
07:05they're going to react to it.
07:06They can talk about it, discuss it.
07:07And that takes a while.
07:09You know, it's not like you can go get guys, plug them in, and then go to Sunday
07:13and just know that they're going to pick up every twist and stunt.
07:15Like, that doesn't happen like that.
07:17So it's actually imperative that these guys get together right now during OTAs and really discuss those things
07:23and really see all of those looks so when we get to the season, they can have that chemistry.
07:27Again, the terminology is going to be different because it's coming from a different place
07:31or everybody's coming from different places.
07:33But to me, it seems like when you look at some of the moves that they're making, that they've made,
07:38and some of the money that they've dished out, they're basically putting all their trust in the offensive line coach
07:44and Todd Munkin, that they can get these guys together because it's not like these guys,
07:48outside of Elton Jenkins, a lot of these guys haven't really been proven like that
07:53or they may have had one good year, but there was like a lot of struggle there.
07:58So to me, you're judging, you're going off the fact that this offensive line coach can come in
08:04and bring the best out of them.
08:06You know, you talk to guys like Zion Johnson, I think his name is, you talk about him,
08:11he's the guy that at the combine, they say like athletically-wise, he's really good.
08:17And you listen to people talk, they say he doesn't get pushed on the offensive line,
08:21but they believe that it's something still there.
08:24If he gets with the right coach, you might be looking at something really special.
08:29So to me, some of these moves that they made is basically putting it on,
08:32what's his name, George Warhoff, I think his name is.
08:35Yeah, George Warhoff, yep.
08:36Yeah, they put in all their faith that he is a really good offensive line coach,
08:40which, you know, Joe Thomas speaks highly of him.
08:42I'm sure Joe Petonio probably speaks highly of him.
08:45They're basically banking that he's going to get these guys together.
08:48Similar to how we were when we had Bill Callahan.
08:51You know, you draft a DeJuan Jones because, you know, Bill Callahan could get that guy ready.
08:56That's kind of what George is bringing to this organization.
08:59Let's talk about the quarterback room.
09:01You've seen, you know, the lack of interest in the quarterbacks that was available,
09:07whether it be them towards us or us towards them.
09:10And you just see how this entire thing is playing itself out.
09:14Just in your opinion, is it playing out as you expected it?
09:18Are you a little bit surprised one way or another?
09:21And ultimately, realistically, how do you see the Cleveland Browns 2026 quarterback room shaping up?
09:27No, I think it's going out the way that I kind of predicted it would.
09:31I mean, I think that they're still going to bring in some quarterback at some point.
09:34Because I think you, you know, you want to go into OTAs.
09:37You want to go into the preseason with four quarterbacks on the roster.
09:40That's just kind of how people do things.
09:42So I expect to see them add somebody, whether that's the draft or free agency.
09:47But to me, they're operating as if they want to give Shador the opportunity to find out if he's the
09:53franchise guy.
09:53You know, and one of the best ways to do that is to make sure that he got the protection
09:57that he needs.
09:58You know, they say that Shador was one of the guys that held the ball for the longest last year.
10:03Well, if that's the case, we've got to make sure we're protecting the guy that's going to hold the ball.
10:07You know, and I think a lot of that had to do with him maneuvering around the pocket and things
10:10like that,
10:11trying to buy his guy sometimes.
10:12But ultimately, I think that they've done a really good job of showing that they want to protect him.
10:17Or if not, if he doesn't work out, whoever the future guy is.
10:20So, I mean, I think that they're really going about it as Ty Munkin believes in him.
10:25And they believe that they've seen some things out of him last year.
10:29And I think if you watch them, you can't deny the fact that he had some moments that look really
10:33good.
10:34You're just chasing consistency.
10:35So I think that they're going about it the right way.
10:37I would fix everything around the offense, try to find us some weapons, get some good offensive line depth.
10:44And then we'll find out if Shador's the guy or not.
10:47Tyvus Powell joining us on the Make It Right Call, Kyle Wright Hotline.
10:49Tyvus, understanding where the Browns are at right now, and you just talked about it with the quarterback situation,
10:55the thought process is maybe they're trying to find out, like, can Shador be the guy?
10:58And this is kind of like one of these gap years before they really solidify that quarterback position.
11:03And rightfully so, because there's so much they have to address on offense.
11:07They're kind of filling out those cracks and building everything else up first.
11:09So with all that in mind and understanding, you know, Tom Munkin, first time for head coach,
11:16and there's going to be some growing pains with the young offense and a lot of young players,
11:21what does a successful season look like in 2026 for you as then you think about what could come in
11:282027?
11:29I think a successful season is that we need to obviously know that, one,
11:34Shador Sanders is the answer in quarterback.
11:36And I think that that comes in a multitude of ways.
11:39You know, does he turn down the turnovers this year?
11:42I think that's one of the big things that we want to see is that he doesn't turn the ball
11:45over as much as he did.
11:47I think that in big moments he's shown you that something's there.
11:51You know, we was talking about on the Cleveland show when we had Charles Davis on,
11:55he pointed out, and even in that Baltimore Ravens game where he got his first chance to be with the
12:00ones,
12:01as bad as it may have seemed, Gage Larva didn't catch that touchdown that he threw perfectly in his hands.
12:07We might be singing a totally different tune, you know.
12:09So it shows you that you throw a guy in the fire, you can find out some things about him.
12:13And in some moments he looked really good.
12:16He made some really good throws.
12:17So to me, I think that he can handle the clutch time.
12:21I think he has that gene in him.
12:23I think that they can see that he's got that gene in him.
12:26So that's why they're trying to do other things to give him weapons and protection and stuff like that.
12:30But a successful season for the Cleveland Browns would be, you know,
12:33this offense finished somewhere in the middle of the pack.
12:35You know, the defense continues to stay top five.
12:38I think if they do that, you might be seeing themselves teetering that playoff line.
12:41They might find themselves, when we get to November and they put that graphic up,
12:47we might see the Browns in the hunt.
12:49Like, if you see that, I think that to me is a successful season
12:52because guys don't think that that's going to be the case for the Cleveland Browns.
12:56But you want to be able to be teetering that playoff line.
12:59Like, maybe over the season you lost one or two games that might have kicked you out of the playoffs,
13:04but you were close.
13:05Like, that to me, that's a successful season.
13:07Or, if they make the playoff, that really is a successful season.
13:11So, I think that it should be something like that.
13:14Operating within a premise that the Cleveland Browns use one of their two first-round picks on a wide receiver.
13:19I know for a fact you've done a lot of breakdown on this year's wide receiver class.
13:24I told Spencer that I believe the Browns will add two to three wide receivers in this draft.
13:29I know that's a bit extreme, but you've got to overhaul the room.
13:32So, outside of the big three and outside of the first round, when I say to you,
13:39the Browns might add two to three wide receivers.
13:41Who are two more wide receivers that stick out to you that might be possibilities for the Browns to grab
13:46in round two or round three?
13:50You know, the guy, I think his name is Malachi Fields from Notre Dame.
13:54He's a big-body guy now.
13:55People are going to be out on him because he ran a 4-6, but that man got a good
13:59catch radius.
14:00I mean, when I watch, when me and G. Bush watch his tape, I mean, he made some catches that
14:04I was like,
14:04yeah, he nice.
14:06He nice.
14:07The one guy, I can't think of his name, from Ole Miss, DeJon, DeJuan, something like that.
14:15I can't think of what his name is, but he's a really good player from Ole Miss as well.
14:20If you want to go later in the draft, I like Tyron Montgomery.
14:24I think he's a project guy.
14:25Natural, raw ability, if you get a guy that can coach him up and teach him how to play wide
14:30receiver
14:31a little bit better, I think that you might have something very special there
14:33because I think he's just an athletic guy.
14:37Yeah, I think it's some gems.
14:39Elijah Surratt, you want to give me Elijah Surratt?
14:42I think that he's probably going to be slow.
14:44Whenever he runs his 40, it's going to be a slow time,
14:46but I think he does a really good job of running routes.
14:53Let's see.
14:54Let me see.
14:54One more guy.
14:55I got to go back and watch this Dizio Boston.
14:57I know Todd McShay been hyping him up.
14:59When I first watched it, I didn't see it.
15:01I got to go back and watch it again, but that's a guy.
15:04He might go in the first round, though, so you might not even get a chance on him,
15:08but that's another guy that I need to go watch.
15:10Tyvus, I saw you tweeting about D'Angelo Pons, which I'm a fan, too.
15:15Would you say at this point, is he kind of your draft crush at this point?
15:20I would call him my draft crush.
15:22You don't do that?
15:23Come on.
15:24I would call him my draft crush.
15:26I respect his game.
15:28I think he's a really good player,
15:29and I think that he'll be a really good nickelback in this league.
15:32I feel like when you look at the Cleveland Browns,
15:34I think that's a position that needs to be at least addressed.
15:37I think you need to at least bring in some competition there.
15:39I know Miles Harden held it down.
15:41It was his first year playing nickel, and he was a solid guy, decent.
15:45But I think that if you can try to improve on the position
15:48and bring some competition in, competition makes everybody better,
15:51and I think D'Angelo Pons will be a really good guy,
15:54simply because I love the fact that he's a scrappy guy.
15:56I know he's short.
15:57I think he's like 5'8", 5'9",
15:59but the dude plays the ball really, really well, and I like that.
16:04I think that's something that we need in the secondary,
16:05guys that know how to play the football really well.
16:07That was one of the things that I liked about Martin Emerson
16:09when they first brought him out,
16:11is that he led the SEC in past PBUs,
16:14and I think that that shows me that that's the guy that knows how to play the ball.
16:17I think in our secondary, one thing that we lack is getting takeaways.
16:21We need guys that know how to play the ball, not just play my man,
16:24but when the ball is in the air, make sure that I'm going to go get the ball.
16:27And I think that D'Angelo Pons does a good job at that.
16:30All right, we got to get to a 2020, but I'm going to close with this.
16:33Martin Emerson Jr. can still do all that.
16:34I hope you have a great day.
16:38Bye-bye.
16:40That was time to follow the MegaRite call, Kyle Wright hotline.
