00:00I didn't see this from over the weekend is awfully quiet on the Browns front,
00:04but it's always cool,
00:06especially when you feel like you knock a draft out of the park for the second
00:10consecutive year,
00:10at least according to the experts that it's nice to do an autopsy on how that
00:16happens.
00:17And we got even more information unearthed over the weekend.
00:22And this came from ESPN as they did a show.
00:25The pick is in taking you behind the scenes of everything draft.
00:29Got a couple of clips here.
00:31The first I think was the anatomy of the trade that did not go down,
00:37right?
00:38This was something the Cowboys tried to manifest.
00:41It was pretty cool.
00:42Cause you got to see the Browns war room and the Cowboys war room and Stephen
00:47Jones and Andrew Barry being on the phone together.
00:49Heck yeah.
00:50Pretty sweet to see what happened and the Browns didn't make a pick.
00:56New Orleans Saints select Jordan Tyson,
01:00wide receiver,
01:02Arizona state.
01:04They're on the clock.
01:05They're on the clock.
01:06I offered their nine and 24 for 12 and 21.
01:08And say,
01:09what else would you want?
01:10Is this Andrew?
01:11Yeah.
01:12Hey,
01:12this Steven.
01:13Are y'all going to pick away here?
01:14We are.
01:15We wouldn't do the swap of the first round.
01:17Okay.
01:17If we threw in a five,
01:19would that change it?
01:20No,
01:21that wouldn't really move for us.
01:22Doesn't move the needle.
01:23Okay.
01:24I keep hearing Cleveland wants an offensive lineman and they're worried New York's
01:27going to take it.
01:28They don't want to get behind the giants.
01:30All right.
01:30Hey,
01:30Ayers,
01:31this is your orange dot,
01:32buddy.
01:33What's the life about Spencer Popper?
01:34We're getting the best tackle in this entire trap.
01:37This kid's rare combination of athleticism,
01:40quickness,
01:41strength,
01:42and his ability to excel on pass protection.
01:44It's truly something special.
01:46I think he's an excellent run blocker.
01:48He's pretty.
01:49He's tough.
01:49He's rangy.
01:50And most important thing,
01:51like this is the best person in the entire draft.
01:54This is one of the highest character guys I've done in the 10 years I've been on the road.
01:58This guy's since us.
02:01Browns pick Bono.
02:02Exactly what they wanted.
02:04They just picked up an extra third and an extra fifth.
02:07All right.
02:07Here,
02:07Adam Schefter there at the end.
02:09You heard violins to build the intrigue for that yesterday.
02:13So when you,
02:14when you saw that footage,
02:16when you heard that,
02:18what,
02:18what did it change anything on what you thought about how all this went down?
02:22Not really.
02:23I mean,
02:23the behind the scenes in the war room view is obviously a door that rarely gets open for fans.
02:32You had the Yahoo piece,
02:35you know,
02:35detailing what happened with the Browns in this draft and in the scene in the war room.
02:42Now you got the,
02:43from the,
02:44from the,
02:46the,
02:47the paragraph description.
02:48Now to the visual,
02:49you get,
02:50you actually got to see it in action.
02:52Andrew Barry,
02:52you know,
02:53talked during his draft availability about basically his phone blowing up.
02:57There was plenty of activity of,
03:00you know,
03:01teams wanting to do business with the Browns because they had the two first round picks.
03:06So really,
03:06I mean,
03:07that was just confirmation of information.
03:09We already knew,
03:09but it's,
03:10we got to see something that you don't get to see.
03:13And that is,
03:14you have two football executives negotiating behind the scenes,
03:19trying to make a trade happen.
03:21In this case,
03:21Andrew said,
03:22yeah,
03:22that's not going to move the needle for us when you throw in that five.
03:25So that,
03:26that for me,
03:27that's,
03:27what's cool about that show is that you're getting an inside look into these war rooms,
03:34which is access that is not privy,
03:36not just the fans,
03:37but also most media like it's very rare that teams allow a writer to be embedded in their war rooms
03:46because those rooms are,
03:48you know,
03:48such closely guarded secrets.
03:50Well,
03:50and you saw,
03:52you know,
03:52most people think that Cowboys are a laughingstock besides the Cowboys,
03:56right?
03:56Cowboys fans.
03:57It was an opportunity that,
04:00you know,
04:00they tried to do a pick swap of the first round picks nine and 24 for Dallas is 12 and
04:0620,
04:06right?
04:06So you get a little better later in the first round.
04:09And then Andrew Barry wanted a sweetener.
04:11They went with a fifth round pick to Sweden.
04:13That wasn't enough.
04:15Cowboys getting clowned on this morning by most on social media for that was,
04:20that was enough.
04:21Do you feel good as a Browns supporter fan,
04:24you know,
04:25that they weren't the ones that were the laughingstock of this,
04:29this situation this time?
04:31Well,
04:31here is the issue for Andrew Barry in that spot.
04:35I don't,
04:36I think it would have taken almost a godfather offer to get Andrew to move out of nine because
04:42they really wanted for no.
04:46And for no,
04:47was not going to be there at 12.
04:49No,
04:49like Andrew Barry did a great job reading that board.
04:53He knew moving down with Kansas City from six to nine that he was not going to lose for no
05:00with those two picks.
05:01He knew that the Rams were going to take Ty Simpson in round one.
05:10He had a pretty good idea that that's what the Rams were going to do at number 13.
05:14So give Andrew Barry some credit on the intel gathering that he and his staff was able to do to
05:21crystallize the landscape around his picks and what teams were thinking.
05:29Right.
05:29Everyone had mocked Casey Concepcion,
05:32I think to the Browns at 24 and that ultimately came to fruition.
05:36The Browns ended up with Casey Concepcion.
05:39But yeah,
05:40I think Andrew Barry deserves a tremendous amount of credit for correctly,
05:46accurately reading the room when it came to how these draft boards were going to fall.
05:50Now,
05:51look,
05:51the Cowboys ended up getting Caleb Downs,
05:53which I think they're ecstatic over,
05:55but they did have to trade up a spot to get them.
05:57And there's no worse feeling as a fan than when your team trades up one.
06:02Yeah.
06:03You understand the logic,
06:05like you get it,
06:06but you always feel like teams bluffed to get you there.
06:09Well,
06:09we remember when the Browns did that with the Minnesota Vikings,
06:12they went up from four to three to draft Trent Richardson.
06:16Yeah.
06:16It just leaves you uneasy.
06:18You're like,
06:18man,
06:19would this guy have been there?
06:20I know that they're going to try to drum up offers from everybody else.
06:24They're going to take Caleb Downs then.
06:26Um,
06:27because if they,
06:28if they come up to nine,
06:29you still got one of the,
06:30they said,
06:31we have another clip here where Schefter confirms that,
06:33that the Browns still had their three,
06:36um,
06:37picks that they want to actually,
06:38the Browns confirmed.
06:39They still had three guys that they were targeting,
06:41you know,
06:42um,
06:43I guess with Jordan Tyson being gone,
06:46um,
06:46that changed the calculus for him,
06:48that changed it a little bit,
06:49but if they're still taking Caleb Downs,
06:51like you're still going to get one of those guys.
06:53If you move back to 12,
06:55right?
06:55Well,
06:55I,
06:56I think what we learned is that Caleb Downs wasn't really on their board.
07:00Well,
07:00I'm talking about Dallas.
07:01Yeah.
07:01Dallas.
07:02I'm sorry.
07:02Yeah.
07:03Yeah.
07:03But you just,
07:03you still don't know who else is out there that might feel like they can move up and pounce,
07:10which then you're,
07:11you're,
07:11you're left empty handed.
07:12You're like,
07:13man,
07:13I know we can still get other good players,
07:14but you know,
07:15we did have a chance to get the guy that we clearly want.
07:18I think it increases the pressure on Spencer Feneau a ton for this to be public knowledge.
07:22Right.
07:22And it's,
07:23it's not just speculation or reports anymore.
07:25This is,
07:26we have confirmed.
07:27We have the Zapruder film now from inside the war room.
07:31Well,
07:31and you could just tell by the way,
07:33whether it's the social media stuff,
07:35the stuff the Browns had offered up the embedded stuff from the Yahoo reporter and this,
07:39that the Browns feel like,
07:41forget about what everybody else says.
07:43And,
07:43and you know,
07:44we've seen this before where the Browns thought they had good drafts,
07:46but they feel like they,
07:47they,
07:48they have a hundred percent buy-in that this was a,
07:51the draft that they want.
07:53Who knows how the players get turned out?
07:54They got,
07:54they got four guys with first round grades.
07:57Now to Owen's point about Feneau,
07:59now we can get,
08:00get me a four first round grades in this draft,
08:02a little bit different from others,
08:03but yeah,
08:03that's the best you can possibly do.
08:05Yeah.
08:05I mean,
08:05I don't think that their first four picks could have gone any better for them,
08:08but to Owen's point,
08:09when it comes to Feneau,
08:10there,
08:11there is a sunny side to this.
08:13Even if it doesn't work out at left tackle,
08:15he's so versatile.
08:17You can end up with him moving somewhere else on the line.
08:20And that pick still not being a bust.
08:22That's been the theme of the whole off season,
08:24right?
08:24I understand that.
08:25Versatility.
08:26Let's get all these versatile.
08:27Well,
08:27you got to eventually lock somebody in somewhere.
08:30But I mean,
08:30Jed Wills became a sunk cost.
08:32Like that's my point.
08:33Like Jed could like,
08:35you couldn't do much with that guy.
08:37So you,
08:38so if it doesn't work out at left tackle for Feneau,
08:41that's not an immediate bust.
08:43You have an opportunity to put him somewhere else on that line.
08:46Meanwhile,
08:46I know we had heard and Owen,
08:49you thought it was interesting that the,
08:51the Kansas city chief stuff.
08:53Yeah.
08:54Came into play here too.
08:55You took a particular interest in this.
08:57And just with the,
08:58the pick swap with nine and six,
09:00we got some of that insight as well.
09:02Here's some Adam Schefter from that pick is in on ESPN.
09:06Cleveland feels like it's got to deal with somebody to move back.
09:09They've got enough opportunities.
09:10They feel like,
09:11so that's that.
09:12I don't know whether that's Kansas city or Dallas.
09:14All right.
09:15So let's stay on the line.
09:17Okay.
09:17I'm going to have coup to go ahead and call it in.
09:19We'll stay on the line.
09:20So Chris called it in.
09:22Okay.
09:24Hang on.
09:24They're on the line.
09:25All right.
09:26Six for nine.
09:2774,
09:29148.
09:29Okay.
09:29Got a deal.
09:30Lately has traded.
09:32It's big.
09:32Kansas city is on the clock.
09:33We have a trade.
09:34We have a trade,
09:35trade,
09:35trade,
09:35trade.
09:36I get terrible wifi here.
09:37Hey,
09:37how do I get to the alert?
09:38Did the alert get up?
09:39All right.
09:40So we traded out six.
09:42We're going to nine with Kansas city.
09:44We thought being,
09:45uh,
09:46we have three guys that we would take to this spot.
09:48We're for no Tyson.
09:50Now we know what we go to nine.
09:51We're guaranteed one of those positions.
09:53We'll see what Washington and the world.
09:56I see here,
09:56the names.
09:57Um,
09:58and I think that again,
09:59audio courtesy of ESPN,
10:01but in that behind the scenes,
10:02I mean,
10:02you're hearing actual physical names.
10:05For no first too.
10:07he did.
10:07I mean,
10:07if you're going to actually rank them,
10:09he said that name first.
10:10I mean,
10:11everything they've told us that they got their guy.
10:13And a lot of people speculate.
10:14Well,
10:14they're just saying that because that's the guy that they took.
10:16Yeah.
10:17Well,
10:17Andrew Barry always insists.
10:18He tells us the truth in his press conferences.
10:20Well,
10:21this time around,
10:22he did tell us the truth.
10:23Um,
10:24does it matter to you when you hear Tyson?
10:26Uh,
10:26the only thing that,
10:28uh,
10:28I came away with the draft,
10:31excuse me,
10:31feeling that I was a little bummed is that they didn't get one of those top
10:35three wide receivers that I'm not because this like Carnell Tate obviously was
10:40the guy we talked the most about.
10:42And then lemon.
10:43And in this case,
10:43they got two other first round receivers.
10:45Yeah.
10:45Well,
10:45they did.
10:46They were not the guy like I am.
10:47I'm not as high on Boston and Casey.
10:50I mean,
10:51he just has to catch the ball.
10:52Like he,
10:52he,
10:53I do think he'll be electric once he gets it,
10:55but you know,
10:56whether or not he's going to be,
10:58look,
10:58they still,
10:58I think he could be a better version of Eric Metcalf.
11:01I,
11:01I,
11:01I really do.
11:02Cause he,
11:03he's also going to help out in the punt return game.
11:04And he's electric there as well.
11:07But as far as,
11:09you know,
11:10not getting one of the top two or three wide receivers or thought of wide
11:14receivers in this class,
11:15to your point,
11:16no,
11:16I'm not because I felt like that the class was deep enough at that position.
11:22See,
11:23I feel better about for no,
11:26because they needed to get one of the top tackles at that position,
11:30because this was not a great class,
11:32or I should say a deep class.
11:34At that spot.
11:36So tackle had to be first off the board.
11:39I think Casey Concepcion is going to be able to do just about anything that
11:44you're looking for him to do.
11:45When you're talking about a,
11:47a premium receiver,
11:48I think that Boston,
11:50yeah,
11:51there's a reason,
11:52obviously he fell to the second round,
11:53but again,
11:54this is a guy that a lot of folks had first round grades on,
11:58and you were able to get him basically in your second round,
12:01you got two guys with first round grades on them.
12:03Okay.
12:04And so,
12:05yeah,
12:05I'm not worried about them not getting the quote unquote,
12:10you know,
12:10whether it's Tate or,
12:11you know,
12:12I'm not worried about it.
12:13Well,
12:14do you think that the question is like,
12:15okay,
12:16they got the two receivers.
12:17Can either of them be a number one,
12:19you know,
12:20that that's been,
12:20that's been the question about the wide receivers in this draft in general.
12:24Right.
12:24And it felt like if Tyson had a better,
12:26I'll be honest with you,
12:27had a better injury situation,
12:29I think there,
12:30he would have been a lot more coveted.
12:32Well,
12:32he was coveted anyway.
12:33I mean,
12:33look at where he ended up going despite the injury.
12:35We're so,
12:35we're so focused on the number one wide receiver thing.
12:37And I understand why I get it.
12:39No,
12:39I don't have one.
12:40I haven't had one.
12:41Well,
12:41I'm not dismissing it.
12:43All I care about is these guys come in,
12:45they catch footballs,
12:47they rack up yards,
12:48they move the chains and they put points on the scoreboard.
12:51Okay.
12:51That's all I care about right now.
12:53Anthony,
12:54this offense was so putrid the last couple of years.
12:58The only thing I'm worried about is productivity.
13:00And I do feel like these two kids can come in and provide productivity.
13:06The number one wide receiver thing is going to work itself out.
13:09I'm worried about guy.
13:11Can you come in,
13:11catch the ball?
13:12Can you score some points,
13:14move the chains?
13:14I think both these kids can do it and it'll sort itself out.
13:17You say they'll work itself out.
13:19Well,
13:19one of these guys has to emerge as that guy or they just don't have one.
13:23I mean,
13:24that's what are you going to do?
13:25You're going to trade for what you get?
13:26You're going to commit more assets to wide receiver.
13:28Probably not happening now.
13:29Andrew Barry loves trading for him.
13:30I,
13:31but I think because they took two of them,
13:32that's,
13:33that's probably not going to happen at this point.
13:35So that would be the only,
13:36that would be the only thing.
13:37The only look,
13:38this there's only so much you could do in this draft.
13:40I mean,
13:40we,
13:40we all know what we were saying about this draft before we came in.
13:43And obviously they,
13:44they got a lot of guys,
13:46which was,
13:47I think pretty good work from Andrew Barry.
13:49Just did they fill that position of number one wide receiver?
