00:00Andrew Barry was just on the morning show with Anthony and Daryl
00:05and spoke for an extended period of time.
00:08It was a very, very long interview.
00:09Yeah, and good job by the boys.
00:11Good job by Andrew.
00:13Thank you for your time.
00:14Greatly appreciate it.
00:15You're welcome.
00:15He'll be hiring Lance Reisland shortly.
00:18Boy, did it sound like that?
00:19He really likes Coach Reisland.
00:20Our boy Lance.
00:21Yeah.
00:21Way to go, Lance.
00:22Good to know you while you worked here.
00:23Knock him out of the park.
00:25Glad we could get you into pro football.
00:26I wonder, will he have a little fridge in his office in Berea?
00:29I don't know.
00:30You can go down to the cafeteria.
00:31You won't need a little fridge.
00:33Yeah, but if you're working hard, breaking down tape, you want that fridge right there.
00:36You're going to have a key to the cafeteria.
00:37You're down there all the time.
00:39It's going to be great.
00:41Do you have to move those folding fences to get in there?
00:44I don't know.
00:45You know, the ones that get your fingers caught there.
00:47Man, that would be smart.
00:48Mandatory minicamp just ended without a starting quarterback for this team.
00:52Yeah, we're talking about the quarterback.
00:53I'm sorry.
00:56You can join in and help us, though.
00:582-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-9-2.
01:00Andrew Barry was asked by the boys about the quarterbacks, both of them who were being considered
01:07starters.
01:08Didn't hear anything about Taylor Green or Dylan Gabriel.
01:11But, Andrew Barry had this to say about Deshaun Watson.
01:16And, of course, Deshaun is going into the last year of his contract.
01:22And the situation as to what might happen if Deshaun actually plays well this year,
01:29or they decide they might want him back after this year, the fifth and final year of the contract
01:35that he signed when he was traded to the Browns from the Houston Texans.
01:38Here's what Andrew had to say.
01:41Do you see a world where he is the Browns quarterback into the future, and are you open to giving
01:48him a contract extension?
01:49I think everything's on the table.
01:51I think it would be silly to go into a season and say, hey, something absolutely can or cannot
01:57happen.
01:57And I think particularly at the quarterback position, we've seen it with guys, whether
02:02it's Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones or Geno Smith, even Baker, after he left us in Carolina.
02:08And so I think you have to be open-minded and flexible.
02:11Yeah, I wouldn't rule out any.
02:12We're looking for guys who can perform and who can lead.
02:16I think he's right.
02:18I don't think you can go into this season completely predetermined notions as to what's
02:22going to happen.
02:23You have to let it play out.
02:24You have to let it see what's going to happen.
02:30Maybe Deshaun goes into the season.
02:32At some point, he's going to be on the field and is phenomenal again.
02:38I'm not banking on that.
02:39Neither are you.
02:40My guess is they aren't either.
02:42I don't know what you can bank on.
02:44When it comes to that quarterback spot, you're hoping for the best.
02:48That's all.
02:48I think we're all hoping that the younger, the better, I would say, with Shador Sanders,
02:55the controllability for destiny, I guess.
03:00When you look at the contract situation and the upside of Shador Sanders makes me intrigued.
03:07I want to see it play out on the field, though.
03:10I can't sit here and walk out of last season going, oh, home run.
03:13I know.
03:14I don't even know if it's a, it might not even be a walk or get on base by error
03:18at this
03:19point.
03:19I don't know what it is.
03:21So, I want to see him with better receivers.
03:23I want to see him with the opportunity to play with an offensive line that's been together
03:29for a little bit, at least, and, you know, to have a running game that could be healthy
03:33at the end of it.
03:34So, I think that if you ask the front office, no matter who the quarterback is, are they
03:40putting guys in a situation that could be better than last year?
03:44Yes.
03:45Is it a winning situation?
03:46I just don't know.
03:47And I don't know how anyone could, I thought Andrew made a great point that, you know,
03:52who would have thought the Patriots were going to be the Patriots last year?
03:55He's right.
03:56Especially in the NFL.
03:58Rabes.
03:58I don't know if you can walk into a season having full confidence in what a team is going
04:05to be.
04:07All it takes is one or two injuries to change everything.
04:09How do you think Kansas City is, you know?
04:11You lose your quarterback.
04:12Well, no, that's true.
04:13So, they need a break.
04:15Like, this franchise just has not had a break since 99.
04:19One football that went over Ben Roethlisberger's head is what I think of when it comes to getting
04:23breaks since 1999.
04:24Can you imagine the scenario, and I'm wondering what it would be, that would make you really
04:32want to give Deshaun Watson a multi-year contract at the end of this year?
04:38Because that's what it would take.
04:40Playoff win?
04:42Playoff win would make me want to give him something.
04:44Would it?
04:46Just a playoff win or like, you know, a 10-7 record as the starting quarterback getting
04:53you to the playoffs?
04:53I mean, is it just one game?
04:56What if, you know, what if Shadur starts all year and then you go out and you get a playoff
05:02win with Deshaun because Shadur got hurt in week 16?
05:05No, that's different.
05:06Okay.
05:06That's different.
05:06He's got to go out and win.
05:08You mean he's got to be the guy and then he's got to get a playoff win?
05:11Yeah.
05:12I don't even know that he's got to get...
05:13I mean, look, if they put...
05:14I'm going to say this.
05:15Let's say they put 42 points up on the board in a playoff game and lose 45-42.
05:22Now am I going to be mad?
05:25After he's played well for a season.
05:26Yeah.
05:27Okay.
05:27That's where I think you have to kind of go back and go.
05:30I'm even hard-pressed to think that...
05:32I think the opportunity to move on from this contract and this storyline and this era,
05:39if you want to call it that, I think those things might be too big to pass up.
05:46You know what I mean?
05:47This hasn't gone well.
05:49No.
05:50I mean, not at all.
05:51But you also heard him talk about forgiveness.
05:54Yeah.
05:54And if you feel like he's on the right path away from things that got him in trouble
05:59before, and they're winning, and they go on to win playoff games, I don't know how you
06:05walk away from that.
06:08I think that's...
06:09And the best part is if he steps out...
06:11I think that's a gracious, gracious comment on your part.
06:13Totally.
06:14Yeah.
06:14I'm living in utopia.
06:15But what I am thinking, though, is if he can get there and then doubles down and go,
06:20you know, I really want to thank people for sticking by me.
06:23I had some demons in the past, and I'm really, you know, I was able to refresh my life here
06:28in Cleveland.
06:28And I know it has not always been what we wanted it to be, but I think we finally got
06:35back on the path this year.
06:36And I think I have clarity in my life, and I have clarity in football, and I can't wait
06:41to move forward.
06:41And I love this city.
06:43Hoop, hoop, hoop, hoop, hoop.
06:44He's got to do that, too.
06:45He's got to work.
06:47Because that way we know he gets...
06:48He loves pretending to be others and what they should say at press conferences.
06:51Well, the press conference stuff I get.
06:53I don't know that I always believe it, but wouldn't that be great?
06:57I mean, that's a win.
06:59I just don't know how much longer you can play quarterback, but the injuries, Stu, it's
07:04a pipe dream.
07:05It's a pipe dream.
07:06But winning cures all ails, and you just don't know what this team is going to be.
07:10And I think we sit around there, we try to tell everyone...
07:13I don't know that we try to tell people.
07:14We let people dream a little bit about what they think the next year's season's going to
07:18be, but you just don't know.
07:20And I thought Andrew hit the ball out of the park with that answer that he said when he
07:24was talking about, you just don't know.
07:26And I can't go into a season thinking...
07:28Well, he's right, and I give him credit.
07:29Especially in the NFL, there's always two teams, three teams.
07:32You're like, how the hell did that team get in the playoffs?
07:35And then, oh, wow, are they playing in a really crappy NFC?
07:40I don't know, north or south or...
07:42Not south.
07:42Yeah.
07:43And then they end up getting through, and you're like, damn, how'd they get in the playoffs?
07:46Well, Deshaun is competing with Shadour Sanders for this starting gig, as we all know, and
07:51Todd Munkin not naming anybody.
07:54And maybe the reason why is because of Shadour's improvement.
07:57Here's Andrew Barry on Shadour and his situation going into year number two.
08:02I think he's had an excellent spring.
08:04I mean, the past eight to ten weeks, you know, as a rookie player, and particularly a quarterback,
08:09you learn a lot your first year, and especially if you don't start a full season.
08:12And I think he did a phenomenal job this offseason.
08:14That really started in January and February, and then certainly as we got into having,
08:19you know, real practices in May, his growth has been tremendous.
08:24That's great to hear.
08:26Now, is he saying it because he's one of two options and neither one are great, or is it
08:32absolutely he's been tremendous and we're going to see a different guy this year?
08:36Well, I actually wonder is, okay, so he came in here and you wonder, okay, was the bar really
08:41low because he wasn't getting reps and he wasn't playing, and he wasn't on board with
08:46the playbook, and he was very much what rookies are.
08:50I don't care what his last name is.
08:51Those are all very rookie things, right?
08:54And rookies that jump off the page are the guys that know the playbook before they walk
08:59in the door.
09:00As soon as they get it to him, that's all they do is study the playbook.
09:02So, you know, I think it took time for him to see some kind of a commitment.
09:10And by the way, I don't blame him for feeling the way he did.
09:14Jeff, when has he ever not been the starter in his life?
09:17When has he ever been the fourth string quarterback?
09:20When has he not gotten first team reps?
09:23I'll wait, because I think he had him his whole entire life until he got to the pros
09:29last year.
09:29I think that's correct.
09:30And then he pulled the stigma fifth-round draft pick.
09:34And so it's his job to overcome that.
09:36It's his job to go the extra mile.
09:39Sounds to me like, you know, once they gave him an olive branch and said, let's go, we
09:44want to make you a part.
09:45We're going to give you a legitimate chance.
09:47If you have this opportunity, I think he's kind of taking advantage of it, according to
09:52what Andrew just said.
09:53And I think that's what we all want.
09:55Andy referenced a comment about grace and about forgiveness and mistakes and everything
10:04else.
10:04It was about Brendan Soresby, the quarterback who was at Indiana and then Cincinnati and
10:11transferred to Texas Tech and the whole gambling situation.
10:13And he's up for the supplemental draft.
10:17And Andrew Berry had a comment about that that we're going to hear in just a second here.
10:22And it, as he said it, it made me think Deshaun Watson, to be perfectly honest with you.
10:28Andrew was on the morning show with Anthony and Daryl, and he talked about a variety of
10:33things.
10:33We just discussed his comments on Deshaun Watson and Shador Sanders.
10:37He was asked about Brendan Soresby, the quarterback at Texas Tech, the gambling situation, that whole
10:43thing.
10:44And his answer was insightful, I think, might be the word to use.
10:51Here's what he said.
10:52I really asked two questions.
10:53I asked, number one, is this a bad person or did they make a bad decision?
10:57And then the second piece is like, okay, what are they doing after the fact, whether it's
11:02to really, where it's to correct the behavior?
11:05Is this a pattern of decision-making?
11:07And if so, have they done something to stop the pattern or is this an isolated incident?
11:12Because the reality of it is like, we're all going to screw up.
11:14And some certainly mistakes are greater in magnitude than others.
11:18But I think the most important thing, Brendan's case, is like what he does from here.
11:24Obviously, it's a great first step to get the help that he needs.
11:27But then it's like, okay, what is around him?
11:30And what is he doing to make sure that he can maintain healthy habits moving forward?
11:35And so it seems like it's a very good start there.
11:37Obviously, I don't know all the details at this point.
11:42But I think probably within society, so to speak, I think we could all stand to use a
11:48little bit more grace.
11:49I like the last part of that.
11:51I do think as a society, we could all use a little more grace.
11:55As he was describing his thoughts there on Soresby, I kept thinking about Deshaun Watson.
12:01And the Browns made a big decision on a guy previously who had some real issues.
12:09And Andrew used the words bad person, bad decision, isolated, and patterned in talking about Soresby.
12:20And you could throw the same things out about Watson.
12:22And they obviously decided in that situation to make the move and get the quarterback.
12:27And to have grace.
12:29And to have grace because they've let him, A, they made the move.
12:33B, they paid him.
12:34C, he's still here.
12:37Which makes me think, despite what Todd Duncan said.
12:39I don't know if they had a choice on him still being here.
12:42Well, they do now.
12:44They do.
12:45And he's still here.
12:46Yeah.
12:48And despite what Todd Munkin said, it made me think, if Andrew Barry thinks Soresby's worth filling the blank in
12:54the supplemental draft, he's going to take him.
12:56Unfortunately, I agree with you.
12:57He's going to put in a bid.
12:58I wish I didn't agree with you.
13:00But I just don't want to see.
13:03To give Soresby the opportunity to go play pro football now, which still could happen, right?
13:09If this case gets overturned.
13:12Oh, yeah.
13:13It could still happen even if it doesn't get overturned.
13:16He could just say, you know what?
13:17I've had enough of this nonsense.
13:18I'm going to go pro.
13:20I was watching CFS.
13:21Rough Riders.
13:22You need anybody?
13:23They're what?
13:23Two games into their season?
13:25Yeah.
13:25I was watching the game last night.
13:29I'm not a big fan of this.
13:31I just.
13:32Could we just.
13:33They've done this before, though, Andy.
13:34Why can't we just avoid the drama?
13:38Why can't we just be a regular football team that isn't in headlines for stuff that's going
13:43on off the field for a team that doesn't have to worry about players in court?
13:48I know that that happens more often than we think now in the NFL.
13:52But can we stop?
13:55We don't need Soresby.
13:57It's not.
13:58He's not.
13:59I do.
14:00We don't need this.
14:02We don't.
14:03Tell me.
14:04If anyone thinks we need this.
14:06Come on.
14:07Well, I.
14:09I don't know that you need him either.
14:13But, Andy, if they if they happen to view the guy.
14:17As a really good quarterback.
14:19And let's just say, hey, you know what?
14:23We'll throw out a fifth.
14:26And if he drops in.
14:27Did we not learn our lesson with.
14:30With numerous.
14:31With who?
14:31Do you want me to start?
14:32Johnny Manziel.
14:33And we keep going.
14:35Deshaun Watson.
14:36Deshaun Watson.
14:38Baker went sideways.
14:40And had drama at the end.
14:42I'm just saying.
14:44Based on what you're saying, Andy.
14:46To me, it means that Soresby is in play.
14:49If nothing else.
14:50Can you question?
14:51I'm not.
14:51Look, I don't.
14:52I do want to give this guy grace.
14:54And I know he said that.
14:55But can we just.
14:57Just one time.
14:59Can we not stick our hand in the fire?
15:02How about let's go get some wins?
15:05Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
15:07I do appreciate it.
15:09But instead, we don't even stick our.
15:10We put our head in the oven.
15:12And go, oh.
15:13Well, let's make it a little warmer in here.
15:16Oh.
15:16Oh, national TV's not talking about this.
15:18Oh.
15:19Well, yeah.
15:20Is this electric?
15:20Can we get a gas and electric stove?
15:23Andy, you have Deshaun.
15:24And everything that comes along with him.
15:27You have Shadour.
15:29Who became a storyline.
15:31Because of what happened on draft day.
15:32And certainly a charismatic guy.
15:35I mean, you've got some drama already there.
15:39What's a little bit more?
15:40I don't have drama with having a couple of guys fight it out.
15:44To be the starting quarterback.
15:45I know.
15:45But the guys themselves come with drama.
15:48Shadour's isn't bad drama.
15:50But it's drama.
15:51Deshaun has been drama since you acquired him.
15:54I will take Shadour's drama any day of the week.
15:58Rather than having to watch a quarterback that every time he throws a pick.
16:01Oh, wouldn't that be awful?
16:03We think it's he's trying to toss the game.
16:05Stop.
16:06And Andy?
16:07Let him be somebody else's head age.
16:09You know that's going to happen.
16:10Of course.
16:12Oh, did you see how wide open that one receiver was?
16:14But he decided to throw in the triple coverage?
16:16Yep.
16:17Come on.
16:17Whether it's the right call or not.
16:20There's no way that's not the case.
16:22Can we please just let somebody else have the drama?
16:25Let somebody else have the hot topic.
16:28Let somebody else be the lead of the talking head shows on ESPN.
16:32Please.
16:33Guess what?
16:34Just one time.
16:35Guess what?
16:35What?
16:39He sounded to me like he wanted Sorsby.
16:41I basically agree with you.
16:43The only way I don't agree with you is if Andrew Barry and his scouts and their research,
16:50they think the guy can really play.
16:54I could see them bringing him in if their analysis and evaluation of this guy is a big-time quarterback.
17:02Whatever happened to using your eyes and using your head for analysis?
17:09Read the paper.
17:10Well, that's what I'm saying.
17:11Read online.
17:13Sorry.
17:13They're going to look at football.
17:15All that said, I don't think they need him.
17:18Stay away.
17:19I wouldn't do it myself.
17:21We put in a bid for the sixth round to get him, and guess what?
17:24We got him.
17:24Yeah, because nobody else wants the drama.
17:28Let him be somebody else's problem.
17:30I can't disagree with you.
17:32Cleveland, join along with me.
17:33This will be a sing-along.
17:35Let him be somebody else's problem.
17:37I've heard you say, don't do that.
17:40Please.
17:40Please.
