00:00From the NFL Network, NFL.com, he is Daniel Jeremiah, who spent a couple of years scouting right here in
00:06Cleveland for the Browns.
00:07Daniel, welcome. Good to have you with us.
00:10It's great to be with you guys, man.
00:11Three weeks from today, we'll be looking at what happened the night before, going, do we like this?
00:16Do we not like this? Are we good? Are we bad?
00:19It's almost here.
00:20We do that every day here in Cleveland when we think of the Browns.
00:23Yeah, can you just grade the Browns right now on their draft right now?
00:26We'll just put that out there.
00:27Yeah, I was thinking about it. I could just record a generic A, B, C, D, F thing and then
00:34just send it around to everybody and just drop it in there and go with whatever you feel like.
00:38That'll be beautiful. We can't wait.
00:40Are the Browns in a good spot at six?
00:43Do you like that position in this draft, considering what needs might be combined with top talent at the top
00:49of the draft?
00:51I do. I think they're in a pretty good spot.
00:54You know, I would love to see them be able to, you know, to come away with these first two
00:59picks with the receiver and a tackle that they're happy about.
01:02And I think there's a million different iterations for that to be possible.
01:07You know, they could also, you know, if they wanted to go the best player available route, I mean, you
01:12know, you could make that argument as well.
01:14But I think this has a chance to work out for them where they're going to really like what they
01:18get and two guys that can plug and play, preferably on the offensive side of the ball for me, come
01:24in there and help those guys out.
01:26I tried strongly to make the argument that, you know, there's a chance the best player available is going to
01:31be a pass rusher.
01:32But the longer we go through the offseason and the more I kind of look at their arc and where
01:36things are headed, and that to me points towards a 27 quarterback.
01:41Let's make sure that that table's set.
01:43They've tried to do their best here with free agency and the offensive line, but continue to fortify that and
01:48get another weapon in there.
01:49So it's hard not to think about the Browns in the first round and you want to sit here and
01:52pick, oh, this Cardinal Tate's going to be there.
01:55Maybe they'll take, you know.
01:57But the back of my mind or the little devil on my shoulder keeps going, they're going to trade.
02:02They're going to trade.
02:03They're the Browns.
02:04This is what they do.
02:06What do you think?
02:08Well, I think they're going to be in a position where they could have that opportunity.
02:14The team that I keep coming back to, two teams, it's rare when you get.
02:19Super Bowl caliber teams that are picking as high as they are in terms of, you know, obviously Kansas City
02:24picking inside the top 10, which they never are.
02:27They're in striking distance to get a premier player if they feel like there's one there.
02:31They could move up.
02:32And then the Rams, you know, or drop punt away from potentially getting to and winning another Super Bowl.
02:37So they're at 13.
02:38So both those teams being in striking distance, if they did, you know, want to slide back, I mean, those
02:44would be the two obvious ones I would look at.
02:46But Daniel Jeremiah, joining us in your latest mock draft, you have Carnell Tate coming to the Browns.
02:52Is he just the best wide receiver in this draft?
02:56Or is he a guy who should be taken at six in a normal draft anyway?
03:01I think he's a really, really good player.
03:03I think he's the best receiver in this draft.
03:04I have him as the sixth best player in this draft.
03:08You know, so the only, you've got the two offensive players ahead of him are just Mendoza and Love, and
03:13he's right there.
03:14So all those things being said, in some other drafts, might he be the 14th pick instead of the, you
03:20know, a top six pick?
03:21Sure.
03:22But in this draft and who he's competing against and what he is, he's the best of that bunch.
03:27And I do think he's, I think he's got a really high floor.
03:29You know, I think he comes in and at worst case scenario, you have got a, just a rock solid,
03:35you know, steady two.
03:37And I think there's more meat on the bone there.
03:39I think you could end up having a number one overall receiver.
03:41But to me, he's clearly the best guy.
03:43When we look at this quarterback just a little bit more here, it's just, I just kind of feel like
03:47there's maybe,
03:50it's almost feels like it's one tier or two tiers, right?
03:53It's Mendoza and then kind of everybody else.
03:58Give me the gap on what we're looking at here between, it's just, it's hard sometimes to look at people's
04:03box and go,
04:04man, they only think one quarterback's going to go in the first round.
04:06I just find that hard to swallow.
04:09Yeah, I get it when you, you know, look historically that these guys get pushed up.
04:13But Mendoza is my number one player and my next quarterback is Ty Simpson at 38.
04:16So that's a pretty significant drop-off.
04:19And when you're also talking about him at 38, you're not talking about somebody with some, you know,
04:24prototypical dimensions and experience.
04:26So there's a little bit of a gamble on both those fronts.
04:29So that's why I've, you know, through the process so far, I have not had a quarterback outside of Mendoza
04:34go in the first round.
04:35Now, I do think Arizona's a team to keep an eye on.
04:38And they're picking 34 top of the second round.
04:40If they wanted to come back in and lock it in, I could see that happening.
04:45You know, the Rams have been another rumored team.
04:47I just can't get there, you know, thinking how close they are to hoisting a trophy.
04:52That they would be, you know, taking a player for a year or two from now would be hard for
04:56me to fathom.
04:57So that's the team.
04:58I mean, I'd be surprised it was anybody other than the Cardinals that pulled the trigger in the first round.
05:03What did you think, Kirk Cousins, going to the Raiders yesterday?
05:06We sat around here.
05:07We're like, this is the way it should be, man.
05:08You got a guy like Cousins going in there and then you're going to get Mendoza.
05:11I mean, you really have time to let your quarterback breathe your first round overall pick to give him a
05:17chance to breathe.
05:18I'm just curious your take on that.
05:20If you're going to ask me, like, what's the best thing you could do to develop a quarterback?
05:25I mean, they've hit every checklist.
05:27I mean, think about having a good, talented veteran center who can help you in that regard with communication.
05:33It's not having to play immediately.
05:35Having an incredibly cerebral starting quarterback who's been around forever has been in this particular offense
05:41and could probably teach it as well as the coaches and who is, by all accounts, a great dude and
05:46great teammate
05:47who's going to be willing to help you along.
05:49And, oh, by the way, you've got a head coach who's from not only a successful offensive background,
05:55but from a family that's one of the first families of the way football's played offensively right now.
06:02And one of your owners just happens to be the best player that's ever played in a position in the
06:05history of the sport.
06:06I don't know if you could find a better situation for him to go into as they continue to fill
06:12out the offensive line,
06:13which I imagine they'll do in the rest of this draft.
06:16Daniel, you have Jeremiah Love going at No. 4 in your latest mock draft of the Tennessee Titans,
06:21which makes such unbelievable sense to me.
06:24Maybe it won't happen.
06:25How polarizing of a guy is he, certainly not talent-wise, but a running back who's that talented?
06:34Because so many teams seem hesitant to pull the trigger on a running back that high.
06:38But I think you've got him nailed.
06:40If I'm Tennessee, I'm all over that guy.
06:43Yeah, I mean, to me, I've always believed with these running backs.
06:46It's not, you know, cut and dry.
06:48They should or shouldn't be top 10 picks.
06:50I think they're situationally specific on how talented the running back is, first of all,
06:54and then whether or not the team is equipped to support the running back.
06:58You know, that's what makes this challenging with Tennessee.
07:00I did not love their free agency.
07:03I thought they should have been more aggressive in upgrading their offensive line.
07:06So I'm almost breaking one of my own rules here because, you know,
07:10I'd like to have the offensive line in a little bit better spot.
07:13Last year is a great example.
07:14I mean, Gentee didn't have a chance with that offensive line last year.
07:17They just weren't ready for a running back.
07:19But when I look at how talented Love is, I'm going to say, look,
07:23I don't love what they did in free agency, but I'm going to give them a hall pass on that
07:26and say they've got this draft and the next free agency class to be able to fix this offensive line.
07:32So I would take Love.
07:34I would understand that maybe you won't see the best out of him this year
07:37because of what's in front of him.
07:38But I think in 27, which I believe is a year, they're also going into a new building.
07:43You've got Cam Ward.
07:44You've got Love.
07:45And hopefully at that point in time, you fix the offensive line.
07:47This becomes a real fun, exciting team.
07:49Did the Browns fix their offensive line in free agency,
07:52or did they just sign some guys they can put on the field?
07:56Look, that was a daunting task to try and replace the entire group.
08:01I call the Charger game, so I know Zion really, really well.
08:06He's a good, solid player.
08:07He is a great teammate, a great guy.
08:10He's very durable and tough.
08:11I like that one.
08:13If they can keep Jenkins on the field, a good player is also a versatile player.
08:17You can move around a little bit.
08:18Titus Howard, I like, is the right tackle.
08:21To me, it's, you know, can you count on DeJuan Jones to run out there?
08:26I don't know that I feel comfortable there,
08:27so I still feel like the biggest piece of the puzzle is out there.
08:30They've got to find the left tackle.
08:33So that's – I think with the challenge they had in front of them,
08:36they did as well as they possibly could.
08:39Just your thoughts on the Browns front office.
08:41Just, you know, Andrew Barry, like, they always talked about thought partners
08:46and the way they were operating things before.
08:49Now Andrew's kind of – I don't want to say he's alone, but he's the man.
08:53There's, like, no question that he's there.
08:55Does that change the Browns draft philosophy,
08:57or what do you think we're going to be looking at here
09:00as far as the Browns front office and the draft?
09:04Well, I think your philosophy, you know, can morph and change a little bit.
09:08I don't think anybody steps into that share and has it – you know,
09:12it's going to be this way and you're going to stay that way throughout the entire run.
09:15I think the best thing going for Andrew and for the team
09:18is the proof of concept of what they did last year, you know, with that draft class
09:23and how they identified the right guys.
09:27And I think makeup was a big part of a lot of those players
09:30in just terms of how competitive they were to go along with, you know,
09:34adding some real explosive players.
09:37You know, Schlesinger and Harold Fannin are great examples of guys
09:40who for their position are just very, very athletic.
09:43They're very tough.
09:44They're very competitive.
09:46Those are just a couple examples of guys in that class last year
09:49which was littered with really, really good players.
09:51So I think that if that's the formula, if they stick with that,
09:56I think they're going to be just fine.
09:57They got the right guys last year, and I would imagine they're going to be
10:00on the hunt for the similar type of players.
10:02Daniel, you look at this quarterback group in Cleveland,
10:05and Daniel Jeremiah joining us from the NFL Network, NFL.com.
10:08You can go see his mock draft.
10:10And it's Deshaun Watson, it's Shadour Sanders.
10:13Dylan Gabriel doesn't seem to be in the conversation for the starting quarterback gig
10:18even though he's here and will get a chance to compete in all –
10:21well, at least that's what it looks like.
10:23What did you think of Shadour last year,
10:25and what did you think of him coming out last year?
10:29Yeah, I mean, I was someone who, when I watched him,
10:33I thought there was a lot of good things coming out of Colorado.
10:35I just didn't think he was, you know, ultra, ultra twitchy,
10:38and I thought he had some bad habits.
10:40You know, really the drifting thing was worrisome,
10:43and that showed up last year as well.
10:45So there's still things he needs to work on there.
10:47I do think he's a very skilled thrower, you know, with the touch, the accuracy.
10:52It's not a huge, huge arm, but he's an anticipation thrower.
10:56I liked him.
10:58He was like my – and he believed he was my 20th overall player in that class,
11:02and obviously it felt like a, you know, like a rock out of that draft.
11:07And last year I thought I saw a lot of the similar things, you know.
11:10So I thought you saw some anticipation, the touch, the accuracy.
11:15I just – you know, he's got some habits in terms of holding the ball
11:17and drifting in the pocket that need to be cleaned up.
11:20I don't know that he's ever going to be a top 10 quarterback in the NFL.
11:23I don't think he has that type of ceiling,
11:25but I think he has a chance to be a functional starter.
11:28The challenge is going to be – I've seen Deshaun Watson at his best when he's,
11:33you know, and it's been many years now.
11:34But he played in an elite level, and there's a higher ceiling with him
11:38if he could ever find his way back to that,
11:40and maybe that's just – maybe that's gone and never going to happen.
11:43But I would be intrigued at least when he's healthy, new coach, new system.
11:47I want to see what that looks like first,
11:49just because I think there is more upside with him.
11:51All right, Daniel, the most important question I'm going to ask you all day,
11:54because I felt like every time you were at the Senior Bowl with Andrew Ciliano,
11:57you were always in the car with him.
11:59Can you give us any dirt on Andrew that we can use on him?
12:02Because he's a weekly guest.
12:02I was a friend of the show here because of the Browse Radio Network.
12:05Oh, man.
12:06Anything good?
12:06Yeah, dirt on Andrew.
12:08I'll tell you what.
12:09Andrew is a man with very few flaws.
12:12I will say he's an eating-the-meeting guy, though.
12:16You know, he's a bring-your-lunch-into-the-production-meeting guy.
12:20So, yeah, I think that's a soft spot.
12:22I think you could attack him there.
12:24But outside of that, I mean, he's just – he's absolutely the best.
12:28Ah, okay.
12:29We'll get it.
12:31I wish I could – I wish I could give you something.
12:33By the way, Dodgers are losing 3-0.
12:35Golly, what a great day.
12:36Well, you know, there's a great day, yes.
12:38What the Guardians did to him.
12:39I know.
12:40You guys beat the stuffing out of him.
12:41That was fantastic.
12:43Hey, Daniel, great to have you with us, and we appreciate you coming back.
12:47Thank you very much.
12:48Best of luck.
12:49You're going to be busy, as you know what, through the next month or so.
12:52So, good luck to you.
12:53I appreciate it.
12:54Hope everything goes well for you guys in the draft, and keep the guards rolling.
12:57There we go.
12:58Daniel, we'll be watching you on the NFL Network.
13:00All the draft coverage coming up April 23rd through the 25th.
