00:00on the make it right call Kyle Wright hotline cleveland.com and 92 through the fans very own
00:05Lance Rislin coach welcome to the show hey guys thanks for having me what's going on why do you
00:09personally loathe Ty Simpson yeah give us the real reason uh you know I don't know I uh there's no
00:16personal I know you're uh taking it personal there's no pointing that uh finger in the chest
00:19I just 15 starts I immediately turns me off I'm done I'm out all right is it just the 15
00:25starts
00:25is that like the only part of it because I really do think it's become a there's a there's other
00:29things too you know I've you know the the frame his frame uh his ability to uh move his feet
00:36when
00:36he's under pressure and I feel like these guys who have these least amount of starts I try to go
00:40back
00:40and watch as much film as possible I feel like um if they're not in the right situation which right
00:45now the Browns offense isn't that could really stunt what he's doing now two years from now he
00:50could be outstanding I think if he's sitting behind Stafford or sitting behind Rogers but right now I
00:54just don't think he can go in and be the guy I just don't any other quarterbacks you uh you
00:59might
00:59actually look at if you're the Browns in the mid rounds other than Garrett Nussmeyer I want to hear
01:03about Garrett Nussmeyer again well I'm going to start with Garrett Nussmeyer I love love Garrett
01:08Nussmeyer and here's why a lot of starts uh underneath center uh played in that uh Brian Kelly offense which
01:14means you're going to be multiple sets you're going to be in the huddle you're going to be multiple
01:17tight ends you're going to have to do NFL type things uh and that's a big thing that people don't
01:21understand that I think uh you know the ability to call plays in the huddle uh in that short amount
01:27of time when you have this long verbiage that they have in the NFL that's a that takes some time
01:31to do
01:32so uh yeah I like him I think once again a lot of the same concerns I have about Ty
01:36Simpson I have
01:36about him too Slater frame makes mistakes under pressure those are things he's going to have to work
01:41on all right coach we got more draft questions I'm sure but now we did a lot about Deshaun Watson
01:45in
01:45the past hour or so it's kind of been a Deshaun Shador Dylan Gabriel day let me ask you from
01:49a
01:49coaching perspective and one of the cool things about Munkin you always talk about this about how
01:54like he doesn't have a scheme he fits to the player right how do you put together what you want
01:58to do
01:58and what your scheme is going to be if you have three different quarterbacks and they're all very
02:02very different how does that how does that approach what does that look like well if you think about so
02:07it's the the foundation stays the same so if you're running zone read uh everybody up front is running
02:12zone you can pass off it you can run zone read where if you have a running quarterback so the
02:16foundations stay the same you're just kind of tweaking with what the quarterback strength is
02:20if he's a running quarterback you're going to read the backside end if he's a throwing quarterback
02:23you're going to read the linebacker or there's a bunch of different ways you can do it um you know
02:27the thing that sticks out is that you know I'm a Dylan Gabriel fan but I don't know I don't
02:31think
02:31this offense fits him very well because now uh what I thought he did well is be within a scheme
02:36and be a part of that and uh because he does have limitations now in this you know I've heard
02:41you guys
02:42talking about the Sean I've heard a lot of for me it doesn't matter all the speculation part of the
02:48the side effect or part of the ripple effect of giving rid of Kevin Stefanski is the fact that
02:52he doesn't it doesn't matter what the Sean happened before it doesn't matter what he came in with
02:56doesn't matter that he played 19 games and he's been uh pretty poor in what he's all he knows is
03:01right now everybody's got a kind of a fresh fresh start and obviously the quarterback he'll he'll adjust
03:06to what these quarterbacks do but he's going to pick the one um that he has to do the least
03:10amount of
03:10um work with and for him the bottom line is winning week one all this stuff about everything
03:16else does not absolutely matter to a coach you have to win week one and then you got to win
03:20week
03:20two and you kind of move forward I know it sounds kind of cliche but that's exactly how Munkin's
03:25thinking right now how do what who gives me the best chance to win week one not next year not
03:30the
03:30future not developmental you're playing for the future you won't be a part of it kind of deal so
03:34uh for me I think Chador and Deshaun are in the mix I think this is going to be tough
03:39for Dylan just
03:40because this is a player's kind of based offense and that's not his strength all right coach I if
03:46I'm my winning plan meaning winning as many games as possible in 2026 would involve signing Kyler
03:52Murray to a one-year deal the Russell Wilson type deal uh the number one player I would add and
03:58and
03:58at almost any expense uh Rasheed Walker the left tackle there out of Green Bay and then with a sixth
04:04pick that would allow me to take Jordan Tyson wide receiver out of Arizona uh state
04:09if those were the big three moves how would you grade that offseason for the Browns oh I like that
04:15you know I would say any of those receivers there's a bunch of receivers my my rebuttal or my pushback
04:20would be I think you can get some guys like Tyson who might be as good Omar Cooper there's some
04:25guys
04:25you know besides Lemon Tyson and Tate you know Casey Concepcion Omar Cooper Zachariah Branch Denzel
04:31Boston Chris Bell these guys I've been watching now for a while there's some guys you can get down
04:35the road so I love the idea of getting Walker then you're you're pretty good at the tackles you
04:40figure out what you're going to do inside you could there's some guards you can go out and get
04:43uh second and third round for me I'm still taking game changers if that's the thing I'm not taking
04:48Tyson at six I'm either taking a game changer I'm trying to trade back um so I can take a
04:53tackle or I
04:54can take one of those three receivers or another receiver I like I wouldn't be shocked if there's a
04:59receiver that jumps in front of those three uh that somebody really loves because there's some skill
05:03sets on these guys that teams like whether they're in the slot or outside so I'm on board with all
05:07that I would still take uh if Caleb Downs is there Sonny Stiles is there if Arvel Reese is there
05:12I'm
05:13taking those guys because those guys are what win games down the road uh what have you seen from
05:17Sonny Stiles he's a guy we didn't talk too much about and then he just had a magnificent combine
05:22well the comp for me the uh JP the combine is very uh I'm not a huge combine guy but
05:27what I what I
05:28like to do is when a guy is like that you go you say oh my gosh and then you
05:31go back and see it
05:32on film what you see is you see uh you know a guy who was to safety 6'5 244
05:37he ran you know he
05:37he did all these freakishly things but he's only played linebacker for one year and he's only played
05:43down the box and that's a big difference when you talk about reading double teams and scraping over top
05:47and filling a gap and blitzing and covering backs out of the backfield it's a big change you know
05:52for a guy moving down however he's such an elite athlete the scary thing about him is I think
05:58his best football is in front of him he's only just getting started uh you know and he's he's one
06:03of those guys when you watch him on film he's just a better athlete than every him and Reese and
06:08Downs they're just better athletes than everybody else so he'll have a learning curve because at his
06:13size he's able to kind of just get rid of offensive linemen he'll have to stack and shed a little
06:18bit
06:18more as he gets you know into the NFL but uh the when you watch when you see the combine
06:22you go back
06:23and watch the film you can see the correlation and you see how much better he's going to get
06:27when he plays linebacker over and over and over all right there were a lot of names that made
06:31headlines in Indianapolis at the combine but seeing as this is the first time we've gotten you since we
06:36have officially uh you know gone through the entire combine what names maybe broke out the most for you
06:44well there's a couple guys you know I'm looking towards the Browns angle but it just in general I
06:48thought you know obviously everybody talks about Sonny Stiles and those guys but a couple guys off the
06:51Raider I thought Kyle Lewis the linebacker from Pitt was outstanding uh you know he ran a four five
06:56three uh great 10 yards shot you know all those things great 10 yards split but he was his film
07:01is super explosive kind of like that I'm not comparing him to JOK I'm comparing him to the pull
07:06the trigger like JOK where he's um you know he sees what he sees and he pulls the trigger he
07:11doesn't
07:11wait obviously David Bailey was outstanding the D tackle Caleb uh Banks from Florida I thought he was
07:17super impressive at 6'6 you know 330 running a 5.04 I tell everybody that 5.04 at 330
07:25is more
07:25impressive to me than a 426 that's incredibly fast for a big guy um you know I all those guys
07:32you
07:32know Jeremiah Love for me he has moved into the 1A category with downs I would not hesitate if I'm
07:37the
07:38Browns if he's there to take him there's another game changer I thought Mike Washington is a really
07:42good player um Jacob Rodriguez is a guy runs really really well um he was one of those guys even
07:50if
07:50he didn't test well the film would have overmatched it for me but he tested pretty well he's just a
07:54football player he's always around the football uh CJ Allen the linebacker out of um Georgia he's a
08:00stud um you know and then you got the you know tackle Fano, Malioa, Freeling um Ian Nachor I think
08:06is a guy you can get in the second round who's got a ton of upside so there's another guy
08:10they can go
08:10get uh Oliva Vega, Oana the um the guard from Penn State uh he's a stud Jennings Dunker is a
08:17stud so
08:18there's a lot of guys out there especially like you said uh Nick if they go out and get walkers
08:22then it kind of then they can do what they want here a little bit and take who they think
08:25it is
08:26because then that tackle doesn't become such a need and such a stress right so for me that's the
08:30idea what are they going to do with that tackle I'd much rather be a free agent and then go
08:34out and
08:34take one of these game changers coach you responded to us on social media the other day we were
08:38talking about Todd Munkin and nepotism in the NFL and I made the point that uh I just don't it
08:43doesn't bother me one bit if I would help out my kid if I had a chance to help out
08:46my kid that's
08:47just how I think about these things uh but I thought you had a good response uh can you tell
08:51people what your thoughts are with not only Todd Munkin his son being given a job in the NFL now
08:56but uh your experience as well well you know it's kind of the same thing it's all we've ever done
09:01right our fun our hobbies are you know what we like to do in social time we like to do
09:05football we
09:05like to do you know that's kind of how we grow up so in my family you either liked it
09:09or you
09:09hated it right so me and my dad were super close because we we loved it and I remember I
09:13was playing
09:14I was playing college ball and I was coming to an end and finishing up my spring and my dad's
09:19offensive coordinator at the time he got the AD job and my dad simply said to me hey you want
09:23to be
09:23the offensive coordinator I know you can do this so there is not a bigger a bigger thing of nepotism
09:28uh there it is and by definition my dad gave me the job uh because he knew how much I
09:34love
09:34football and worked at it and then it was my job to kind of um make him right in what
09:39he said and
09:39what he did but make no mistake about it I got the job because of my dad and when I
09:44hear things like
09:44that I always think about every job it's not who you know it's who knows you and that gets you
09:49to
09:49the front of the line and then you got to do stuff so I'm not I don't I don't really
09:52nepotism has
09:53never been a big deal for me it's the idea of when you get that chance can you take advantage
09:58of it
09:58and that's what I always try to do with my dad is kind of prove him that you know or
10:01prove to him
10:02that he made the right choice and I think Munkin's kid will do the same thing it's um you know
10:07I was
10:07laughing because they're like I mean there's no bigger case of nepotism than me getting my first
10:11job without question you think your dad got it right um you know I would say half and half some
10:17sometimes yes uh some years no right you do the best you can a lot of really good coaches out
10:23there
10:23but you know the thing about my dad is he believed in me and he trusted that I worked it's
10:28easy to coach
10:28when you're winning uh one of my strengths was always coaching uh and being the same person
10:33same energy same relentlessness when we were losing so uh I would like to think he got it right
10:37coach you're just supposed to tell him he got it he got it right yes Nick Nick stop it he
10:41got it
10:41right that's what I won't do that uh no there's yeah yes and no some days yes some days no
10:46for sure
10:46I'll say he got it right uh coach we appreciate you buddy we'll talk to you next Thursday absolutely
10:51thanks for having me guys I'll talk to you coach Lance Rislin on the make it right call Kyle
10:56right hotline talking about getting it right that was a burger bet he would have he would have told
11:01me to stuff it I would have hoped so yeah he's just he's just too nice he's too nice he's
11:06too nice
11:06he always stays humble get him to just tell me to to you know screw off that's the that's the
11:11goal
11:11I don't think you're ever going to get it I know if you put your mind to something you can
11:14accomplish
11:15it but I don't I don't know that I don't know this is going to be a tough one
