00:32fantastic all right i thought yesterday was fantastic because i enjoy winning here i guess
00:37we can start with the sean just walk us through what you saw in the sean's uh start and where
00:43you might have seen growth from week one to week two yeah i thought he played really well and i
00:48thought you know especially at the end of the game converting five of the last seven third downs we
00:53really couldn't run the ball he was made some very i thought decisive throws the touchdown where
00:58he checks pre-snap gets the cover three look throws the bang eight there to denzel boston that was a
01:04great anticipatory throw when you watch it from kind of behind i did a play breakdown uh cleaver
01:09rounds.com that i'm sure they'll have out soon that when you look from behind that he rips it before
01:15boston even clears the corner throws it right into the void a great throw he made some very nice back
01:20shoulder throw there he had won the fan and he stayed calm under pressure i thought he he played
01:25a great game he plays with his legs when he needed to he had the huge one where it looked
01:29like the
01:29play was dead and then he comes back to the middle and finds fan for a short game to keep
01:33a drive alive
01:34i thought that was a very very good performance from deshaun watson and did it when you needed it did
01:40it when he needed it with all the noise that was around him about that game and the ramifications of
01:45that game i thought that was a heck of a performance when he's literally at least it felt like from
01:49the
01:49the noise outside playing for his football life to turn that kind of a performance under
01:54those offices i was very impressed and very happy for take us into what clicked between the first
01:59half and the second half and i didn't even think he had that like bat of throws in the first
02:03half i
02:04thought he's actually he had a lot of good throws it's just the offense 59 total yards and then you
02:08look at the second half and they're completing third downs and there was just a lot more movement
02:12and longer drives well i think that a couple things happened first you know obviously with
02:18his legs as you point out first two third down conversions of the game for the browns came on
02:22deshaun watson's legs and then i thought that they kind of adjusted and accepted the reality of the
02:27fact that they really weren't running the ball well and so instead you got some early down plays that
02:33were maybe a swing pass with one lead blocker to quinshawn juddkins or just a short little stick
02:37just anything to get four or five yards keep you ahead of the sticks not have that get you in
02:43second
02:43and long and i thought that really helped the offense as it went on the second half and you
02:47go to the touchdown that was the game winner just an incredible play call right there it looked like
02:51it was going to be a run to the right or if not kind of that sprint you know right
02:56action spider out
02:57to the right with a y leak tight end leak back to the back side and you had been crashing
03:01down all day
03:02with blake whitehart when he was in line on the sea gap in this case on ashaun robinson
03:07he did that action the linebacker desire trotter takes his eyes off of whitehart that's who his
03:12man responsibility was goes to the backfield to try to get quinshawn juddkins in the run
03:17whitehart leaks out so i thought there was excellent play calling excellent sequencing and then i thought
03:22deshaun watson did it when he had to because like i said we could not on the football in this
03:27game and
03:28so for deshaun to be able to do that uh that was big a big win on the road and
03:32certainly i'd also be
03:33remiss not to say that this defense that was certainly under fire after that performance in
03:38jackson had an excellent performance against baker mayfield in the box well it's like you've been
03:42doing the broadcasting thing for a while there nathan because that's where i want to go uh that's the
03:46defense we had hoped uh would it would have shown up two weeks ago what was the biggest difference
03:51between the week one defensive performance and what you saw in the browns win week two over baker
03:56and the boys number one the jags are an excellent offense with a great quarterback driver lawrence
04:01who's been playing as well as anybody in the nfl now they have their issues in denver certainly this
04:05week but that is a very good offense and a very talent offense and they're excellent in the slot
04:11parker washington even up there when they put sertan on him was still making plays and he had
04:15seven for 98 in that game for the jags as their leading receiver and that was a really tough matchup
04:20for miles harden and then things kind of got away from the browns tried some things to try to make
04:24up for
04:24that whereas this week you know chris godwin and even emeka buka they don't they're not run away
04:29from you guys and they're they're not they're not kind of we'll call it twitchy or shifty
04:34they're kind of more crafty savvy route runners miles started plays really well against guys like
04:39that and so i think it allowed us to play a little bit more man coverage this week we also
04:45did a much
04:46better job significantly better job getting home with four than we did in the game against jacksonville
04:52in particular mason graham had his best game as a member of the cleveland browns he had the sack
04:56he had team high six pressures a couple of quarterback hits a tackle for a loss so i think those
05:01things you
05:02know russian coverage always go hand in hand they don't have the explosive weapons that certainly
05:06jacksonville does and i thought the browns did a better job kind of covering them and then getting
05:11home forcing baker mayfield at times to get rid of the ball before maybe he wanted to take us into
05:15what
05:15you've seen with mason graham now it's a sack in each week that we played a game he had half
05:20of a
05:20sack last season tell us what you see that is different from mason in one year to the next
05:25yeah he's he's playing really well and he's added some moves you can see the spin move in the game
05:30against tampa he did a good job just got a couple of swims and rips that he was able to
05:34get through i
05:35think he's stronger he's worked on his hands he's worked on those pass ripping techniques and you know
05:40he realized that he needed to be functionally stronger that was what his whole offseason was about was being
05:44functionally stronger and more explosive at the point of attack and he's done that and this game
05:49in particular he was the best player on the browns defensive line carson swessinger continues to be
05:55just incredible at the second level but we've got a lot of talent the players on the back end but
05:59right there you needed mason graham and he delivered in a big way he's the one who drew the holding
06:05penalty
06:05on the final drive he is the one who drew most full holding penalties in this game in addition to
06:10getting to baker mayfield running some of those te stunts that they're running taking advantage
06:14of his athleticism it was good it was fun to watch fun to see and very head for him because
06:18when
06:19you are the fifth overall pick right or wrong there is there are going to be very high expectations and
06:24when the fifth overall pick is a defensive tackle those expectations involve you being able to affect
06:29the game as a pass rusher because otherwise you wouldn't be taking fifth overall so for mason graham
06:33he was close a lot last year but now he's gotten home in each of the first two games and
06:38i couldn't be
06:38happier for him nathan uh one concern that did continue from week one is the the run game and
06:45some of the struggles you've mentioned this uh what are you seeing from the run game and and what's
06:49it going to take to get this thing right in they got to get more push up front i think
06:54they need to
06:54kind of find their identity as an offensive line what works best for them you know is it going to
06:59be
06:59more zone team is it going to be more gap scheme is it going to be more power they've got
07:03to figure out
07:03what works for them because right now you watch some plays and there are a few that are close every
07:08game and you know one guy doesn't maintain his leverage one guy doesn't maintain his block and
07:13it blows the whole thing up the fact of the matter is there are 32 teams in the nfl the
07:17cleveland
07:17browns right now are taking contact on design running place at 0.32 yards down the field that is
07:23dead last in the nfl you need to be able to get more push you've got to be able to
07:28move people off the
07:28line now we did a much better job pass protecting titus howard at right tackle you know we'd like to
07:33see
07:33hit and play a little better but on the interior to the left side spencer fano didn't give up a
07:37pressure off the barber didn't give up a pressure and was one of the highest great pass blockers in
07:41the nfl this week at pro football focus so you like what you saw there but in the ground game
07:45it takes everybody but you need more push up front you need to be moving people and george warhol
07:51got to get your pads lower and be able to displace people at the line of scrimmage uh nathan the
07:57the
07:58fourth and one call i i actually i liked it i like i like munkin being aggressive uh i didn't
08:03love
08:03the actual call of using jutkins in that spot and and how he did that but that's neither here nor
08:07there what do you what do you make of munkin munkin in that spot trying to be a little bit
08:10more aggressive is that going to be the mentality you think we're going to see often or do you feel
08:15like it's just a flow of the game thing what was your takeaway in that in that call well what
08:20would
08:20you have rather seen on that fourth and one play i guess maybe we could have done deshaun sneak it
08:24uh i
08:25just i felt like when everyone was lined up and the defensive line was all just basically jammed right
08:29there to then give a couple seconds to then have jutkins go right up the middle it seemed
08:33see maybe like not the greatest idea i think it's one of those it's going to be like outcomes
08:39and obviously it did not work i hear that i think and todd talked about it today the reason they
08:43went
08:44with that is then when they were going to use their sneak package and they had harold fan in
08:48on their fourth and an inch you know we jumped off sides and so made a little bit nervous i
08:52guess
08:52about the operation of that play went to something more traditional obviously it didn't work
08:55i like the aggressiveness it's one of those things that you know it looks a lot better when
08:59it works out because in that particular situation the browns then give tampa the ball in the short
09:05field they get points and because the browns didn't defer then tampa gets it to start the second
09:09half so that was in two games you know we've won the toss we have not deferred and the opponent's
09:14been able to double dip end of the first half into the second half browns answered that all down 16
09:19to
09:19six and came back and won it so i think these are things as todd as a head coach is
09:23going to
09:23continue to kind of feel out and figure out what he wants to do but they will always be aggressive
09:27he will always be aggressive and you have to believe in your team's ability to get you know
09:33a foot or two feet you've got to believe in that and quite frankly the browns need to be able
09:38to
09:38execute in those situations nathan denzel boston looking pretty good at football right now what
09:44how is he able to do this this early in his career because he is he's just making plays left
09:50and
09:50right because he's got the prototypical size he's got good speed he's got good hands he's tough
09:57and he's somebody who was very productive at college that played at a big college i think
10:01there is something to be said for these guys that play at places like washington that are playing for
10:04you know in the college football playoff that play a lot of big games denzel boston had that
10:09experience and he scored 20 touchdowns his last two years there so you know there were people at
10:14washington who were wondering when roma dunze was at the peak of his powers and washington goes on to
10:18be a first round pick in the nfl and early first round pick of the chicago bears you know was
10:22denzel
10:23boston practice denzel boston better than game roma dunze because he wasn't getting the opportunities to
10:28play at that point so i just thought he was really talented i liked him all along in this process
10:32and
10:33he was the best player in berea for the bulk of the offseason and then casey concepcion you know
10:37started to kind of come up in his own way so yeah i'm not surprised he is a he is
10:43a great kid he
10:44approaches this the right way he's very professional in his approach and his preparation and
10:48clearly on the same page with this quarterback because you know denzel boston has had a touchdown
10:52reception of 45 yards or more in each of the first two games and he showed the ability to run
10:56past
10:56people he showed the ability to run through people and absorb contact and make great catches on the
11:01perimeter of this one i think you know the only you'd say this game could have been even better he
11:05could have had over 102 touchdowns if he was able to bring in the one and get his feet and
11:08bounce
11:09on a very nice throw on that fade in the end zone from the sean but you're going to be
11:13very excited
11:14about what you're seeing from dead cell boston nathan one before we go we got about 35 seconds
11:19here uh the browns get the win over carolina if finish that sentence sir you continue to build on
11:27what you did in jacksonville i'm sorry in tampa not what you did in jacksonville you learned from that
11:31you improved down in tampa but you know that complimentary football good defense good offense
11:36explosive plays at opportune times and they've got to start getting the run game going carolina might be
11:42the first team in nfl history to give up 56 fewer points from week one to week two in a
11:47game because
11:48they gave up 59 to the bears in three last week so i we don't really know who they are
11:52defensively yet
11:53we'll find out but i think you just keep doing what you've been doing take care of the football
11:57make those plays on offense play good defense and special teams have been excellent so far this year
12:01keep that going and you can win nathan that was a fun win yesterday you and andrew did a great
