00:00i was already in on munkin yeah i'm more in on munkin okay the answers yesterday the and i just
00:06want to play it because it made me happy there were so many things about this clip and daryl
00:11actually i want to give daryl credit because he put uh the multiple clips together but started out
00:15as a question about uh him not being there at uh for the coach's photo yeah for the haircut yeah
00:23and then it led into what i think is probably the smartest thing i've heard a coach say do you
00:27feel
00:27like you got a disproportionate amount of the bluster for that oh i didn't i really don't give a
00:32i mean it had nothing to do with me i mean they moved the meeting i didn't miss it i
00:35was just
00:36trying to get a sweet haircut i mean that's what i was trying to do and then they moved the
00:39meeting
00:39now you can blame that i should have been at the meeting when they moved it up and my ass
00:42would
00:42have known that's when it was yeah okay i gotcha was it disappointing bet your ass it was disappointing
00:47waited my life to be a head coach i'm not in the head coach's picture you'd think with ai they
00:50could
00:50have done that quickly and got me in there but no it's the way it is it'll be under the
00:54bridge and
00:55what'll matter most is whether we how we move from here and do we win or not that ultimately
00:59none of that will matter the reason i asked is that there's this perception around the browns
01:02you know what can go wrong will go wrong people always read the worst into what happens here how
01:08can you guys change that perception winning what changes everything right what changes the winning
01:13changes everything right i told the coaches that the other day right or playing well how does a player
01:18stop a narrative play well how do we stop a narrative on offense score how do you step a narrative
01:22winning win it's pretty freaking simple now i know and i know like your your greater takeaway
01:28from yesterday is there were like two or three great moments and then the rest of it was slop
01:33basically i don't know about slop that seems a little harsh but it was like two or three like
01:36firework moments and the rest of it i thought was very generic i really like kind of like what the
01:40back end of that last answer was where it's like winning winning is how we do this it's like well
01:44give me the roadmap tell me how you do it i related it to uh when you watch those tiktok
01:48shows
01:49and they try to tell you how to become uh independently wealthy and if the answer wasn't
01:53telling you how to do it but was instead saying you just need to add more money to your bank
01:57account
01:58like it's just like it was like all right great i you you you showed me nothing there you told
02:02me
02:02nothing there i think the thing that i give todd munkin credit for and i used to say this as
02:08a a knock
02:09on kevin with kevin you just didn't give anything and it just you just came off as completely
02:17inauthentic and unapproachable i don't need a coach to tell me everything but i do need when he does
02:24speak on something that it must rhyme with the truth he's never gonna give you a hundred percent
02:29of the truth but i'll settle for rhyming for the truth yeah yeah and that's all i've heard from todd
02:33munkin and so like yesterday voluntary minicamps are a tough spot to be when it comes to trying to
02:42upset the apple cart or say anything interesting i like i just i think the energy's right and i hear
02:49a coach it's gonna be really hard for me to believe that if you're a one-win team in the
02:56middle of
02:56october that it's not because of some flaw with the roster like it or it's his flaw like i i
03:02tend to
03:02think that if this team could be a seven-win team he's gonna get you there okay i i like
03:07that you're
03:07hopeful i didn't leave yesterday feeling more hopeful but as we as we kind of went throughout
03:11the day there were certain things i i obviously appreciated i like the idea that it seemed like
03:16he called out miles garrett without actually putting miles garrett's name on it but the idea
03:19that anyone that that listened to it and paid attention to not only even the miles answer but how
03:24he was talking about people being there ahead of time he was telling miles i wish he would have been
03:28here like there's there's little things like that that i do think matter and i think popped up and so
03:32like
03:32it wasn't the worst thing i've ever heard i just i thought people just i think i thought people went
03:36overboard online uh because of a couple highlighted clips when the bulk of it he was starting to turn
03:41some of his answers into very very andrew barry s type answers and he was starting to almost sound
03:47like he'd been brownsified a little bit and i'm a little worried about that listen one of the cool
03:51things about munkin is that he hasn't been brownsified if if all i get is three explosive moments
03:56of press conference that's three more than kevin stefanski ever gave well and so that's that's where we kind of
04:00have to just say okay great we'll take it uh because stefanski gave us just so little throughout
04:05the years that we're starved for anything uh that we're just we're ready to go ahead and make a big
04:09deal about just about everything now while i am all in on munkin and by the way it wasn't just
04:13that
04:14press conference it is it is a fact that i think he's old enough to know that he can't do
04:19the i will
04:20get him next year thing but uh john middle cough uh was on fs1 was on with colin coward and
04:27the herd
04:27and uh he has a different take on todd munkin to me the biggest red flag about this situation
04:34is how defensive he's getting i mean i i'm not trying to kick a dead horse and everyone's so
04:40mean to the browns he's got one and done written all over them they got no they got no quarterbacks
04:45well the one thing that helps munkin is they let go of a guy who was respected in the league
04:51and
04:51interviewed for seven jobs so if if munkin is a one and done guy and i don't know if he
04:56is
04:56i mean he's obviously got some talent as a coach but if he is a one and done guy my
05:00take is then
05:01that would be once again jimmy haslam admitting yeah i screwed it up yeah i i i hated this take
05:07for middle cough so yeah let me just say this we had somebody that works here in the back when
05:11i
05:11first showed up yesterday because i was listening to it on the odyssey rewind and i'm listening to it
05:15i'm right at that spot and then the person in the back goes oh boy he got really testy there
05:20he got
05:21really defensive and i i just i didn't hear it that way middle cough said the same terms though
05:25middle cough used the word defensive as well don't you have a right to get defensive in this
05:29moment or whatever perceived defensiveness is yeah i i don't think it's an issue like i can defend
05:35him for a second yeah i'll be honest with you i think the corporate friendly uh say nothing do
05:40nothing coach it's this era of coaches um unless they win they're completely uninteresting and when
05:48uninteresting i mean they're unapproachable unrelatable and overall just seem like they're not all that
05:53interested in the part of their job that i think is probably more important if you're not winning
05:57which is speaking like somebody who gives a crap that you're not winning i just i'd like i didn't
06:03listen he gave a specific reason he gave a press camp which that's a stupid reason to say a guy's
06:08going to be one and done like oh he was in a he was testy whether not anybody agrees with
06:13that
06:13in an ota press conference so he's going to be one and done that feels a little hacky for me
06:19and
06:19john middle cough is in no way a hack so that already annoyed me the second was it's just not
06:24the first time i've heard somebody say one and done and i i am a little sick of todd munkin
06:30getting
06:30the freddy kitchens treatment from the greater media when he's not freddy kitchens like this is a guy
06:37who got lamar jackson to pass for career high numbers there's a guy who lamar went from well we
06:46think he's still just a running quarterback to to you know being an mvp again oh this is a guy
06:52who actually got good football out of jamis winston once upon a time this is a guy who was a
06:56successful
06:57head coach at uh at smu like it's just like people are treating him like this guy hasn't earned it
07:03and this to me is i'll say it again i think this is bruce arian's 2.0 like i think
07:08this is a guy who
07:09is ignored because he doesn't just talk like uh like like he went to a harvey harvard ivy league school
07:15where everything that comes out is just vanilla garbage this is a guy that talks like a real
07:22football guy and there's a guy that is older than people like i that to me his age is not
07:28a minus
07:29it's it's a positive and i think this is what the browns need if the rest of their front office
07:35and their ownership is talking about bitcoin and and you know funding godless amounts of whatever
07:42different uh political things the funny thing about it to me is that yeah he had these couple
07:46moments and he had this moment that we're talking about now this is what the national media is hanging
07:49on to i thought for a lot of that press conference it was very generic and it was very him
07:55just kind
07:55of i don't know again i said brownsified earlier but him kind of using some of those cliches and
07:59using some of what we've seen stefanski use in the past which which in a weird way shows like a
08:04willingness to almost i don't know conform to what they want but when i would tell monk and this is
08:09where i was
08:09upset with it yesterday is i didn't sign up for that version of munkin i signed up for the version
08:13of munkin that'll be like all right the pitcher thing was stupid i i was there at the time that
08:17they said for me to be there they rescheduled it that's their problem next topic that's the monk
08:23and i signed up for like the you did get it on that question though and that's what i liked
08:26but
08:26but again it was too few and far between and there was a lot more of but he's not gonna
08:30lob grenades
08:31in the first day of voluntary otas but the takeaway is that he did that's the thing the takeaway is
08:36that
08:36he did lob grenades and if it was a firework show and people are acting like uh you mentioned
08:40freddie kitchens people i think like that's what that was that's not what that was in no respect
08:44was that it but what i what i was drawn to about munkin and i don't know if it'll work
08:48out or not
08:48but what i was drawn to about munkin is that he's not cut from the same coaching cloth that everybody
08:52is and if you're gonna you're gonna do this differently you have to have a different head
08:56coach and somebody that beats to his own drum and so uh like those type of moments those are the
09:00moments i actually liked from that press conference if todd munkin is one and done with the browns
09:04it'll be jimmy haslam's biggest failure is brown's owner i want to i want to run that one back yeah
09:11i don't know if i agree with that i think deshaun watson's the biggest failure here's why it's bigger
09:14is because you've lived through that you've lived through uh having a head coach here for six years
09:20in place right you've seen what stability looks like so that should inform like the you you if you
09:26go back to one and done or two and done with coaches you effectively are saying not only did any
09:34of
09:34that other stuff not really matter especially when i was part of bringing down our whatever
09:38championship window we had by making the worst trade in nfl history but now we're back to the
09:43cycle of suck that is every year every two years we're hiring a new gm or a new head coach
09:48and that
09:49and that will say so much more about jimmy haslam and in fact andrew barry than it ever will about
09:54well invest this whole plan is to suck for 2026 be in position to take arch manning and then when
09:59you're in position to take arch manning you can do what the raiders did last year where all of a
10:03sudden you get a kubiak and you get somebody of value i just really struggle with the idea that
10:07that todd munkin would sign up for that because we can say i don't know i don't know that he'd
10:10be
10:10signing up for it it would just be the understanding that this is this is what's going to happen and
10:14so
10:14he well he'd be signing up under false pretenses is the idea i mean i know hugh jackson said that
10:19happened to him but i don't really believe hugh jackson i i would be listen i one i think there's
10:25more of a chance that todd munkin gets fired for winning too many games a la lovey smith then not
10:31winning enough i'm not saying i think that's the plan ultimately but what i am saying is i
10:35wouldn't put it uh past the haslam's and and by the way if we're if we're going to talk about
10:39the
10:39idea that uh they'll they'll owe so much uh and they'll lose so much in firing a head coach after
10:45one season again again if the idea is is that you're lined up to then take a great quarterback
10:50or perceive great quarterback at one and then you get a really good coach because they want to coach
10:54that quarterback i think a lot of fans would ultimately forget it listen if it didn't hurt the
10:58raiders who their reputation is right there with the browns and jets amongst the uh the worst in
11:04the nfl even tom brady can't cover that one up it probably wouldn't hurt the browns in a year i
11:09agree
11:09with you on that point
