19 February - National Evening Forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello, milder air is on the way, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be dry and
00:06sunny, in fact far from it.
00:07There is further wet and windy weather to come during Friday.
00:11It's a bit damp through the night, Thursday night across Scotland, a bit of snow over
00:15the tops of the hills, a few light showers for northern England, and after a drier spell
00:19we'll see another batch of wet weather coming into Northern Ireland and western Scotland
00:23through the early hours.
00:24Further south though, most places dry, most places pretty cloudy, that cloud acting like
00:29a blanket, keeping the temperatures up, mostly above freezing.
00:32If we've got some breaks in that cloud, some rural spots could dip down close to freezing,
00:37but most of us a touch above to start Friday.
00:40Still feeling pretty cold and pretty cloudy early on, and then we've got the rain.
00:44So a soggy start for Northern Ireland, pretty sharply though that rain moves through.
00:48It'll fall as snow over the tops of the mountains in Scotland, some of that rain could be heavy
00:52across southern Scotland, northwest England, and then through the morning into parts of
00:56Wales and the Midlands.
00:57The rain moves gradually to East Anglia and the southeast by around about lunchtime before
01:03easing off.
01:04It doesn't then stop though because there'll be more showers coming in, some heavy, gusty,
01:08blustery showers whizzing through, even the chance of a rumble of thunder.
01:11But the winds are now coming in from the west or the southwest, so they'll chase the showers
01:17on.
01:17There'll be some sunny spells between the downpours, and there'll also be milder air
01:22coming in.
01:23So it may not feel double digits out there, but it'll certainly feel a bit warmer perhaps
01:27than today as we see highs of 10, 11, with a bit of brightness, we might even squeak
01:31up to 12 Celsius.
01:33So those temperatures, 4, 5, even 6 or 7 degrees above where they have been through the course
01:40of Thursday.
01:40These temperatures compared to 24 hours earlier for Friday afternoon.
01:45So it is turning milder, but as I said, not necessarily dry.
01:49There'll still be a fair few showers around on Friday evening before we see another line
01:53of rain that just slowly edging northwards as we go through Friday night and into Saturday.
01:58Not particularly heavy this, but we'll see a damp start perhaps in parts of southern Scotland
02:03on Saturday morning.
02:04The winds also remain fairly brisk, but still bringing in that milder air.
02:09So temperatures to start the weekend, 7, 8, maybe 9 or 10 Celsius in the southwest.
02:15So that milder theme will continue, but we'll continue to see further outbreaks of rain tracking
02:21north across Scotland.
02:22Something a bit drier and brighter perhaps across central and eastern England for a time
02:26on Saturday morning before another zone of heavy, showery rain works its way in from
02:32the Atlantic.
02:32Some, again, heavier bursts mixed in with that.
02:35The brighter colours, particularly for western Scotland, parts of northwest England.
02:38But we do need to watch the rain as it comes in across parts of the south as well, particularly
02:42sensitive here because it has been so very wet.
02:45That brisk wind continues, but now look at the temperatures, 13, 14, and we could even
02:51see temperatures getting a little higher if we see any sunny spells.
02:54Obviously not feeling particularly mild with the wind and the rain, especially in the west,
02:59but those numbers will be quite a bit higher than they have been for quite some time.
03:04Further rain to come in places, but staying mild into Sunday.
03:07For more on that, you'll want to watch our full weekend video available on our YouTube channel.
