Transcript
00:00Welcome to your evening weather from the Met Office. High pressure continues to dominate.
00:05More sunshine for most of us on Friday. Now, it's not been gloriously sunny everywhere through
00:10Thursday thanks to this old weather front. The high pressure is kind of building through it,
00:14but it is still around. It's left quite a bit of cloud behind across parts of southern Scotland
00:19and northern England, so it's not been that glorious here. But elsewhere, lots of sunshine
00:23and through the nights with clear skies, still long enough the nights for those temperatures
00:27to tumble down close to freezing. The clouds should break up a little more over southeast
00:32Scotland and perhaps push a little further south down into other parts of eastern England.
00:37But for most, it's clear skies and so where we've got light winds, temperatures will fall away,
00:42particularly for parts of Wales and the Midlands, down to two or three degrees, even in towns and
00:46cities. Some rural spots may well wake up to a touch of frost on Friday. So yes, a chilly-ish
00:52start, but generally another good-looking day if you like sunshine. Still a bit of a breeze blowing
00:57across the far southwest, and the wind's picking up a little through the night and during tomorrow
01:01across northwest Scotland. It will be a cloudier day for parts of northeast England,
01:06but even here, I'm hopeful the cloud will tend to break up, so we'll see a bit more sunshine.
01:10And it should be a sunnier day for southeast Scotland, and as a result, quite a bit warmer
01:15here too. With light winds and sunny spells, those temperatures getting up well above average.
01:2014, 15, 16, we could even see 17 or 18 in one or two places. And if the cloud breaks
01:26in northeast
01:26England, and particularly for eastern Scotland, it will be quite a bit warmer than today. This map
01:32shows the difference. Friday's temperatures compared to Thursday's values. Perhaps a touch
01:37cooler further south, but certainly northeast England and eastern Scotland, if we see the
01:42sunnier skies, it will be quite a bit warmer. Five, six, maybe even seven degrees warmer, so that will be
01:46quite noticeable. Again, though, quite quickly, temperatures will fall away on Friday night with
01:52again, largely clear skies and light winds. Main exception to that will be northern Scotland, so a raggedy
01:57old weather front trickling south here. That will bring more cloud and some outbreaks of rain and
02:03drizzle. It will also help to keep the temperatures up here, whereas elsewhere, another pretty chilly one.
02:08Friday night into Saturday, more widely temperatures getting close to freezing, certainly in rural areas
02:14across the south. So, yes, a cold start to the weekend, but again, for most, a sunny day. Could be
02:20a bit misty,
02:21one or two fog patches, particularly Northern Ireland early on, but pretty quickly that will clear away.
02:25Will be a cloudier day on Saturday in western Scotland, with that old weather front providing maybe some
02:30showery outbreaks of rain and a brisk breeze here. But elsewhere, the winds, again, mostly pretty light,
02:36quite a bit of sunshine around, which will lift those temperatures to the teens, 13, 14, maybe 15 or 16
02:43in one or two places. So, again, feeling pretty pleasant in that afternoon sunshine. Will it last
02:49into Sunday? Well, the high pressure is kind of sticking around, but for more on that, you'll want
02:54to watch our full weekend forecast with Claire Nazir.
