01 December - National Evening Forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03It's been a very wet start in places to December through Monday evening.
00:08Warnings still in place across parts of the west, but the rain is starting to clear away
00:13and things overall becoming a bit drier overnight, with clearer skies starting to move in through the early hours,
00:19certainly over the Midlands and much of eastern England.
00:22We'll keep some outbreaks of rain going across Scotland, clearer spells developing across Northern Ireland.
00:27Still a few showers for Wales and southwest England as well, but not the heavy and persistent rain that we've seen for much of Monday.
00:34With some clearer skies, and crucially as the winds do start to ease, because it's also been a very blustery Monday,
00:40temperatures will dip down 5, 6 degrees Celsius generally, a little lower across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:46but most of us will be above freezing to start Tuesday.
00:50We should also start with a bit of sunshine over eastern England, the Midlands and many areas here will have a fine day,
00:55but there will be showers elsewhere, initially close to the south coast of England, around the coast of Wales too,
01:01but it will start to move inland as we go through the day, one or two heavy ones likely.
01:06Now, again, not the heavy and persistent rain that we've seen through Monday,
01:09but of course any extra rain falling on ground that's already very soggy isn't welcome.
01:14There'll be further heavy showers, even longer spells of rain coming into western Scotland, where it'll stay pretty blustery.
01:19Elsewhere, though, the wind's quite a bit lighter than Monday, still enough to blow these showers inland,
01:27certainly by the afternoon, but generally with lighter winds and certainly with brighter skies over these eastern areas,
01:32it'll probably feel a bit warmer than today, even though temperatures will be a few degrees down,
01:36generally close to the average, maybe getting up to double figures along the south coast.
01:41But there will be those heavy showers across southern England and south Wales.
01:44They'll tend to drift a little further north as we go through Tuesday evening, perhaps some cropping up over the Midlands,
01:50northern England for a time, doing a bit drier as well across northwest Scotland.
01:54Breeze all the while coming up from the south, you'll notice, but then where the front's trying to bring more outbreaks of rain in from the west.
02:02We'll continue to see some showers then coming into western Scotland, again during Wednesday, parts of Wales.
02:08Again, nothing as heavy or as intense as Monday's rain, but further showers coming into areas that are already very soggy indeed.
02:17A few showers getting into the southeast on Wednesday, but again, I suspect much of the Midlands, much of eastern England, eastern Scotland,
02:23having a dry and a fine day.
02:25Notice behind me, however, there's another band of rain starting to move in for overnight Wednesday and into Thursday.
02:31Before that arrives, temperatures again on Wednesday, similar to Tuesdays, many places at high single figures, 7 to about 11 degrees Celsius.
