06 February - Afternoon weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Hello, welcome to your afternoon weather update. This Friday, it's another wet one for most parts of the UK.
00:07Low pressure continues to dominate. The swirl on the satellite image, a slow-moving area of low pressure.
00:14It will continue to control our weather through the weekend, although during the weekend it should at least become a little less wet.
00:21But there will still be plenty of showers around.
00:23Now, at the moment we've got these weather fronts just kind of gradually edging northwards, generating a lot of cloud and outbreaks of rain.
00:30It will turn a bit brighter across southern areas through the afternoon.
00:33You may even see a few glimmers of sunshine, but there will still be a few showers in here.
00:36Much of Wales, the Midlands, northern England, northern Ireland, southern Scotland stays soggy.
00:40There's been some snow over the tops of the Pennines.
00:43It's starting to ease as temperatures rise a little bit.
00:46Further snow to come over parts of eastern Scotland, though.
00:49Over the hills, yes, but some of the high routes here, not very pleasant with that snow falling.
00:53Again, with the winds coming in from the east, doing a couple of things.
00:56Keeping things wet on the east coast, keeping things cold here, but with some shelter.
01:01Western Scotland doing OK for dry and bright weather.
01:04With the rain continuing in northern Ireland, parts of Wales, Met Office warnings remain in place.
01:09Temperature's quite a contrast, really, actually.
01:11Quite mild in the south.
01:13If we see some brightness, we could easily get to 11, maybe even 12 Celsius.
01:17But with those winds, 4, 5 degrees on the east coast, add on the strength of the wind.
01:21How does it feel?
01:22Well, it feels closer to freezing.
01:25So a pretty chilly-feeling day with that nagging easterly wind continuing.
01:29Continuing to feed some snow over the Grampians, but increasingly the snow level will be rising.
01:35So more and more turning to rain here, except over the tops of the hills.
01:38The rain continuing in northern Ireland does turn drier for a time in Wales, the Midlands, and East Anglia, but only for a time before.
01:45You can see the swirl there.
01:46The low pressure's getting closer, sending another band of heavy, showery rain in from the southwest as we go through the night.
01:53It all adds up to a fairly mild night.
01:55Will turn quite murky, quite misty in places as well, but temperature's holding up for most a few degrees above freezing.
02:02Onto the weekend.
02:02It starts pretty drab.
02:03There'll be a lot of low cloud around, further spells of rain coming in.
02:08That feed of the winds continue to bring a chilly feel to eastern Scotland.
02:12The winds, though, coming now not in from the North Sea, across northeast England.
02:16So a different feel to the day here.
02:18If it does brighten up, it'll feel an awful lot milder.
02:21But still the rain coming into northeastern parts, eastern Scotland and the Northern Isles.
02:25But Edinburgh should also see things turning a bit drier and those winds starting to ease.
02:31Elsewhere, it's a case of dodging the showers.
02:33So it won't rain all day.
02:35Far from it, the showers will tend to move through, but there will still be plenty of them.
02:39And at times, they will be heavy.
02:41So, of course, any rain falling on the saturated ground does have the potential to cause further issues.
02:47Temperature wires, well, similar to today's in the south, 10, 11 degrees.
02:50But further north, quite a bit mild.
02:52As I said, with that switch in the wind direction, it'll probably feel quite a bit milder as well.
02:57As long as you can get out of the showers, which will be coming along.
03:00And still spiralling around that low pressure.
03:02Plenty of showers as we go through Saturday night.
03:05So bear that in mind if you are heading out.
03:07That wind continues to feed into northeastern Scotland and across the Northern Isles.
03:12Still with some shelter in western Scotland during Saturday evening.
03:16I like to see a bit of a change here on Sunday.
03:18The low itself is moving north.
03:20It's kind of losing its form, but still generating a lot of showers over Scotland on Sunday.
03:26Further south, not as many showers.
03:29Still some, but a better chance of some brighter weather.
03:31Again, they're quite a misty, murky old start to proceedings on Sunday.
03:35A lot of mist and low cloud around.
03:37And temperatures, again, a little bit higher perhaps than they have been for much of this week.
03:419 to 11 degrees Celsius and that wind easing across the east coast.
03:46Plenty going on.
