02 March - National afternoon forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Hello, some sunny sections today, some cloudier parts to the UK, kind of breaks down into four zones really.
00:08The bigger picture, the view from space, shows quite an ominous looking area of low pressure way out in the
00:14Atlantic.
00:14Low pressure here, but high pressure just to the south, and actually the high pressure is going to build in
00:19and dominate our weather for much of this week.
00:22Before it does though, we do have a couple of weather fronts moving in, providing those different sections I talked
00:28about.
00:28One stripe of cloud and rain slowly creeping its way across England and Wales, providing rain and drizzle over parts
00:35of northern England, parts of Wales and southwest England.
00:37But as you can see, it's kind of fragmenting as it moves in.
00:41Then we've got a showery zone over western Scotland and northern Ireland with some brighter spells in between.
00:46Generally fine across eastern Scotland and actually parts of northwest England and west Wales brightening up by the end of
00:52the day.
00:53And the finest weather of all really over the East Midlands, East Anglia, southeast and Lincolnshire.
00:58And with a southerly breeze, it's pretty mild.
01:01In the sunshine, temperatures getting to 15, maybe even 16 degrees Celsius.
01:05We do have that cold front sitting across the UK, so it is cooler further north and west.
01:09But even these temperatures close to average and feeling quite pleasant in those sunny spells.
01:14As we go through the night, we'll see a few more of those showery outbreaks of rain pushing in across
01:19Scotland.
01:19A bit of snow over the tops of the hills. The weather fronts moving in across England and Wales kind
01:23of fizzles out completely pretty much by the time we get to dawn.
01:27Ahead of it could well be some mist and fog patches across East Anglia, particularly for Norfolk.
01:32Could be quite thick in places through the early hours.
01:35And it turns cold behind that cold front.
01:37So a hint of a frost there for parts of Scotland and northern Ireland.
01:41Temperatures easily dipping down to or a couple of degrees below freezing in some rural spots,
01:46but holding well up above freezing with the cloudy weather across England and Wales.
01:51Now, we'll have more clouds tomorrow then.
01:53As a result, that old weather fronts may even still produce the old little bit of light rain and drizzle
01:58over parts of the Midlands, East Anglia initially.
02:01That fog should clear away from East Anglia as the breeze picks up.
02:04And the cloud will break up as well.
02:06So we'll eventually see some sunny spells coming through here.
02:09Generally a fine day across northern England, Scotland, northern Ireland.
02:12So we won't have those showers that are around today, maybe still one or two across the northern Isles.
02:16But otherwise, dry and fine.
02:18And again, pretty pleasant in the sunny spells.
02:21Temperatures 9 or 10 Celsius further south.
02:23Not as warm as today because there'll be a bit more cloud around, but we could still easily get to
02:2713 or 14,
02:28perhaps even a little higher if we do see some lengthy spells of sunshine.
02:32Not a great deal of change as we go through Tuesday evening.
02:35That's because the high pressure is moving in and establishing itself.
02:39So again, most places staying dry.
02:41This time of year, though, if you've got the clear skies, the nights are still likely to turn chilly.
02:46So a hint of frost returning even through the evening across parts of the north.
02:49There's the high pressure.
02:50It's building in.
02:51It's sticking around through Wednesday, edging away perhaps on Thursdays.
02:56Weather fronts try and push in.
02:58But again, ahead of this weather front, we will waft some warmth up from the south.
03:03So parts of eastern England seeing those temperatures really ticking up through Wednesday and especially on Thursday.
03:08For more details on that, you want the full week ahead outlook, well, that'll be available on our YouTube channel
03:14by Monday afternoon.
