00:00Welcome along to your afternoon update from the Met Office. A north-south split again today, but the heat and
00:06the sunshine becoming more widespread through the rest of this week.
00:10Here's the view from space. You can see this big long line of cloud out in the Atlantic.
00:14That is pretty much where the jet stream is sitting, pushing in these weather systems, toppling around an area of
00:22high pressure and bringing more cloud spreading south across certainly northern parts of the UK.
00:28And some outbreaks of rain. The rain fairly light and patchy across northern England.
00:32The odd light shower possible here and there, but staying quite damp across the northwest of Scotland.
00:37The odd light shower possible on the north coast of Northern Ireland too, but generally the rain fizzling out in
00:41the southwest of Scotland.
00:43Lots of hazy sunshine across the southern half of the UK.
00:47A little bit misty and murky again around some of the coasts in the southwest down towards the Isles of
00:53Scilly.
00:53But it's hot in the sunshine. Got to 34 yesterday. Today probably 32, maybe a 33 Celsius.
01:00Further north though, we're only around the low 20s. More comfortable here thanks to that blanket of cloud.
01:05Probably feeling quite warm and humid across eastern parts of Northern Ireland if the sun does come out later today.
01:11So this is another way of looking at the temperatures when compared to the average for the middle of July.
01:16You can see well above across the southeast where those temperatures likely to get close to or above 30 Celsius.
01:23Whereas in the mid-teens in western Scotland, we're actually below average.
01:27So quite a contrast with the cloud and the hot sunshine in the south.
01:31As I said, the east of Northern Ireland, eastern parts of Scotland may well brighten up a little as we
01:36head into the evening time.
01:37So some late sunshine possible here. But overnight, the cloud continues to stream into western Scotland with some outbreaks of
01:44rain and drizzle.
01:45Most other places, though, becoming dry. Again, maybe turning a little misty in a few spots.
01:50Temperatures holding up quite a warm night, particularly across the southeast.
01:5318, 19, the low here elsewhere. 14 to 17.
01:57Not as humid as it was during the June heatwave. But still, those temperatures pretty high at reasonably uncomfortable night.
02:05And another hot, sunny day to come across the south tomorrow.
02:07The cloud further north, not as thick tomorrow.
02:10So better chance of seeing some blue skies and breaks in the cloud of northern England, Northern Ireland and eastern
02:15Scotland.
02:16Not as much in the way of rain across the northwest, although still a lot of cloud here and the
02:21odd shower coming in.
02:22Temperature wise, well, again, we're going to be into the low 30s across the south through parts of the Midlands
02:28into southeast Wales to the southeast.
02:3132, 33, 34 possible. Further north, it's warming up as well.
02:35So northern England, southern Scotland, eastern Scotland and southeast of Northern Ireland are getting into the mid-20s.
02:42So it's starting to get hotter here as well.
02:44Again, the coasts will be a little bit more comfortable with some sea breezes and perhaps a little bit of
02:49mist.
02:49And that sun is really strong at this time of year.
02:51So UV levels are going to be high or very high.
02:55This is how the temperature profile, again, when mapped compared to the average looks.
02:59And you can see we're extending the heat compared to today further north across Northern Ireland and eastern parts of
03:06Scotland.
03:06Much more above average as we go through Wednesday.
03:10Again, temperatures significantly above average further south.
03:13The heat continues through Wednesday evening.
03:15Most places dry, fine and sunny.
03:18Don't forget, though, UV levels are high.
03:20Pollen levels are also high in places as well.
