25 February - National Weather Forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Very mild and sunny for some, but there's some pretty wet weather across other parts of the UK today.
00:07Quite a big contrast with a large stripe of clouds sitting out to the west,
00:10bringing some persistent rain over western Scotland.
00:13Meanwhile, further east, that's where we do have some warmth.
00:16Out in the Atlantic, things are brewing as well.
00:19This weather system is set to arrive as we head into Thursday and Friday.
00:23But in the shorter term, we've got this little weather feature.
00:26It's just gradually working its way up across the western side of the UK.
00:30Soggy day so far in western Scotland.
00:32Further rain to come here.
00:34The rain a little patchier elsewhere across southern Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:38perhaps turning a little drier and brighter through the afternoon, although still with a few showers.
00:41Some of that rain at times into west Wales, far south-west of England.
00:46Some showery rain for Cumbria, but a good part of England and east Wales staying dry and bright
00:51with a lion's share of the sunshine across the south-east.
00:54And that is where we're seeing the top temperatures getting up to 17, 18, perhaps even 19 degrees Celsius.
01:00Now, it's mild everywhere because the winds are wafting up from the south.
01:03So even where it's raining, we're generally seeing double digits, but obviously not feeling all that pleasant with the rain
01:08in western Scotland,
01:09which will pretty much continue as we go through the night with a strengthening breeze, getting quite gusty in western
01:15areas.
01:16The cloud increasing elsewhere as well.
01:18Still a few showers for southern Scotland, northern England and Wales, but many areas will stay dry.
01:24Clearer skies over eastern parts of England, but it's not going to turn chilly because those winds are still wafting
01:29in the mild air.
01:30So temperatures in terms of cities likely to stay in high single figures or even double digits as we start
01:36Thursday.
01:37Many places will start the day dry, some brightness across the east initially, but any sunshine tending to disappear as
01:43the skies cloud over.
01:45And more rain comes in from that weather system we saw earlier.
01:48Perhaps your rain spreading across northern Ireland turns wet again in western Scotland.
01:52And then the rain spreads into northern England through the afternoon across Wales and parts of southwest England,
01:58perhaps into the Midlands too, maybe even into East Anglia.
02:02But I suspect further south and east, the southeastern corner staying dry and reasonably bright.
02:08But it will be a windier day and it won't be as mild.
02:12Still temperatures above average, still widely double figures.
02:15And in the southeast, with a bit of brightness, we could easily squeak 14, perhaps even 15 Celsius, but just
02:21not as mild as today.
02:23And feeling cooler because of the strength of the wind and because of the rain, particularly in Wales and southwest
02:27England.
02:27Now that needs watching. It might linger as we've got a waving weather front that could keep things pretty soggy
02:33as we head through Thursday night,
02:34particularly over Wales, the Midlands, maybe southwest England too.
02:38A few showers in the far northwest, but a little drier here.
02:41The weather remaining a bit more changeable as we head into the weekend.
02:44For more on that, you'll want to watch our 10-day trend with a look into next week as well.
02:49That will be available Wednesday afternoon on our YouTube channel.
