11 June - National morning forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Hello again. Still likely to get drier and a bit warmer as we head into the weekend, but for Thursday
00:06most of us have had a pretty soggy morning.
00:09The reason behind it, a weather front of course, tied into an area of low pressure up to the northwest
00:14and this waving weather front is providing a chain of cloud all out in the Atlantic.
00:19And the leading part of that, this warm front has been providing the rain through the morning.
00:24It's been heavy in places, been slowly working its way eastwards. It will ease in western parts this afternoon, so
00:31turning a little bit drier for many.
00:32But still for the next few hours, some heavy bursts of rain slowly creeping up across northeast Scotland, Orkney, Shetland,
00:39generally staying dry through the day today.
00:42But elsewhere, it's been soggy and although it will turn drier in the west, it's likely to stay pretty glum,
00:47pretty overcast and quite breezy as well.
00:49A weird kind of feeling day because although temperatures are below average for the time of year, it feels quite
00:56humid out there.
00:57And if it does brighten up a touch, it won't feel as chilly as recent days, despite that breeze.
01:03So, as I said, a lot going on. Quite a complicated weather picture.
01:07Those weather fronts take the more persistent rain away from eastern areas quite rapidly through the evening time.
01:12And then we're just left with a lot of cloud and some showers filtering in.
01:16And most of the rain through the night will be over coasts and hills in the west.
01:20Many central and eastern parts will become dry.
01:22There'll be some clearer spells, but it won't turn chilly.
01:25Far from it, across the south, a pretty mild night.
01:27Temperatures holding in the mid-teens here.
01:30Maybe some clearer skies, allowing temperatures to dip to single figures over parts of northeast Scotland.
01:35On to Friday, it's a messy old mix.
01:37Won't be as wet as today, but still pretty glum.
01:39Certainly in the morning for Northern Ireland and Wales, rain and drizzle on and off here.
01:43And some heavier bursts, perhaps through the morning over northwest England.
01:47Plenty of showers coming into western Scotland, but I suspect much of southern and eastern Scotland dry and bright through
01:52the day.
01:53And elsewhere, generally cheering up.
01:55Also, with some sunny spells coming through, certainly by the afternoon of Wales, the Midlands and northeast England.
02:01It's likely to stay, perhaps quite cloudy across the southwest and still quite breezy as well.
02:07But with a bit more sunshine, temperatures will respond.
02:10And we'll see highs back over 20 degrees Celsius, 22, 23, possible across the southeast, where we see the sunniest
02:17skies.
02:18Still quite cool and showery across the northwest of Scotland.
02:21But, say, signs of things turning a bit drier and a bit warmer as we go through the weekend.
02:27It will be a slow old process, however.
02:29Still some showers through Friday night to come in across the northwest of Scotland.
02:33But overall, the weather calming down a little through the weekend.
02:36For more on that, you'll want to watch our full weekend forecast.
02:38That'll be with Claire Nazir, available on our YouTube channel on Thursday afternoon.
