What initially appeared to be a hit-and-run case in Rajasthan has been exposed as a planned murder, with police alleging that a newlywed woman conspired with her boyfriend to kill her husband.

The incident took place on Friday evening in Sri Ganganagar district. Ashish and his wife Anju, married just three months ago, were reportedly out for a walk when a vehicle allegedly hit them. Ashish died on the spot, while Anju was found lying unconscious on the road.

Police later revealed that the incident was staged to look like an accident. Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan said the police received information around 9 pm on January 30 about a couple lying on the road. Both were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared Ashish brought dead.

Initially, Anju (23) told police that an unknown vehicle hit them during their walk and claimed that her jewellery had been stolen. However, investigators grew suspicious after noticing inconsistencies in her statement.

Medical examination revealed strangulation marks on Ashish’s body, while Anju had no visible injuries. This raised serious doubts about the accident theory. Police also found from call detail records that Anju was in regular contact with a man named Sanju, who lived near her residence.

According to police, Anju was unhappy with her marriage and was in a relationship with her former boyfriend Sanju. On the night of January 30, she allegedly took Ashish to a secluded road, where Sanju and two accomplices strangled him to death. The accused then attempted to pass off the murder as a road accident.

Police further stated that Anju handed over her mobile phone and earrings to the accused to support her robbery claim and pretended to be unconscious after the murder. However, forensic evidence and injury patterns led to the conspiracy being uncovered.

All accused have been identified, and further investigation is underway.
