Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh): Police in Bareilly have arrested two accused and claimed to have solved two murder cases — one dating back eight years and another involving the killing of a 16-year-old girl about 1.25 years ago.

Kyoldia police station registered a missing complaint on January 8, 2025, after a villager reported that his teenage daughter had disappeared. A case was initially filed under Crime No. 009/2025, Section 137(2) IPC.

In September 2025, police recovered a braided scalp, clothes and skeletal remains from a sugarcane field near the Kailash River. DNA testing confirmed that the remains belonged to the missing girl. Subsequently, Sections 103(1)/238 IPC were added to the case.

Arrest of Accused

During investigation, mobile call detail records (CDR) revealed suspicious activity by Salim Hussain (22), a resident of the same village. He had frequent conversations with the girl and his location matched the crime scene on the night of the incident.

After obtaining court permission, police initiated proceedings for a polygraph test. Upon receiving notice, Salim allegedly absconded. Further inquiry revealed that he worked at a clinic in Bhaua Bazaar with Asim alias Amit alias “Dr. Bengali,” a native of West Bengal.

On February 11, police apprehended both accused at Bauria Cut near Bhaua Bazaar while they were allegedly preparing to flee to West Bengal.

Confession and Link to 2017 Murder

During interrogation, Salim allegedly confessed to calling the teenager out at night, taking her to a sugarcane field and strangling her. He then dumped the body and threw his mobile phone into the river. Police said he was in a relationship with the girl.

Meanwhile, co-accused Asim alias Dr. Bengali allegedly confessed to the 2017 murder of his wife, Rajni. Police claim that due to marital disputes, he, along with Salim, strangled her on the banks of the Kailash River and buried the body. A separate case has been registered at Bhuta police station in this regard.

Criminal Background

Police stated that Salim Hussain has a criminal history, including cases of robbery, attempt to murder and violations under the Arms Act, and is now accused in two murder cases.

Asim alias Amit alias Dr. Bengali had earlier been named in kidnapping and POCSO Act cases and now faces charges of murdering his wife.

SP North Mukesh Kumar Mishra said that joint teams of surveillance, cyber cell and SOG solved the case based on technical evidence. Legal proceedings are underway, and police are preparing to file charge sheets in both murder cases. Further investigation into other possible aspects is ongoing.
