Mumbai (Maharashtra): In a tragic and mysterious incident, four members of a family, including two minor girls, died due to suspected food poisoning in the Pydhonie area, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Abdullah Dokadia (40), his wife Nasreen (35), and their daughters Aisha (16) and Zainab (13).

According to police, the incident began on the night of April 25, when nine family members had dinner together around 10:30 pm. After the meal, relatives left for their homes, while the four victims reportedly consumed watermelon between 1:00 am and 1:30 am.

By early morning on April 26, around 5:30 am to 6:00 am, all four developed severe symptoms, including vomiting and diarrhoea. They were first treated by a family doctor and later shifted to JJ Hospital.

Despite treatment, the younger daughter died around 10:15 am, followed by the father at approximately 10:30 pm. The mother and elder daughter also succumbed during treatment.

Police have registered an Accidental Death (AD) case at JJ Marg Police Station. Post-mortem examinations have been conducted, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after histopathological reports.

Preliminary inputs suggest the family had consumed biryani before eating watermelon, but officials stated that the exact source of contamination remains unclear and is under investigation.

In a separate incident in Jharkhand’s Giridih district, a seven-year-old child died and 18 others fell ill after allegedly consuming contaminated street food, prompting a health probe.

Authorities have urged the public to maintain food hygiene and remain cautious, as investigations continue into both cases.
