Chilling Murder in Surat: Wife Strangled, Body Hidden in Cement-Filled Box by Husband

Surat (Gujarat): In a shocking case, a man allegedly strangled his wife and concealed her body inside a cement-filled wooden box at his residence in Surat’s Salabatpura area, police said.

The accused, Vishal, and the deceased, Shilpa, had been married since 2010. According to police, Vishal had been unemployed for the past couple of years after working in the diamond industry, leading to frequent disputes between the couple. Shilpa was reportedly managing the household alone.

Shilpa’s father, Kosta, a resident of Chhattisgarh, told police that he had travelled to Surat multiple times to mediate between the couple due to their ongoing conflicts. On April 21, when he tried calling his daughter, her phone was switched off. Vishal allegedly told him that she had not returned from the hospital, raising suspicion.

Sensing something was wrong, Kosta rushed to Surat and questioned Vishal, who reportedly gave evasive answers. Around the same time, the accused attempted to flee after leaving behind a confession note on a relative’s phone but was later detained by police.

According to investigators, the confession letter led police to Vishal’s house, where they discovered Shilpa’s body concealed inside a 4.5 square-foot wooden box filled with mud and cement.

Police said Vishal confessed in the note that he suspected his wife’s character. On April 20, he allegedly took her to his ancestral home on a motorcycle, strangled her, and then hid the body.

Inspector R.A. Jadeja confirmed that the body was recovered in a concealed condition and that further investigation is underway.

The incident has sent shockwaves in the area, highlighting yet another case of domestic violence turning fatal.
