In Gorakhpur on Monday afternoon, a jewellery shop in Ward No. 17 of the Gola suburb was targeted in a daylight robbery. Two young men entered Devansh Swarnkala Kendra posing as customers and, seizing an opportunity, snatched around 20 grams of gold before fleeing.

The shop owner’s 18-year-old daughter, Amrita, who was managing the store in her father Rakesh Verma’s absence, showed remarkable courage. She raised an alarm and chased the accused for nearly 100 metres. During the chase, she managed to grab one of the suspects and pulled him down, leading to a scuffle. However, the accused pushed her, causing injury to her hand, and escaped with his accomplice.

According to Amrita, the incident took place around 2:20 pm when the two youths asked to see jewellery. One of them grabbed 4-5 pairs of earrings weighing about 20 grams and ran out of the shop.

The stolen gold is estimated to be worth approximately ₹2.5 lakh, as stated by shop owner Rakesh Verma, who had stepped out to distribute engagement cards for his elder daughter.

CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the accused fleeing through a lane while Amrita chased them. She is seen catching one suspect and bringing him to the ground before he breaks free and escapes. The second accused was reportedly waiting nearby with a motorcycle near Sarya Vegetable Market, and both fled the scene together.

Dr Anil Tiwari, whose clinic is located opposite the shop, confirmed that Amrita sustained a minor hand injury and was treated before being sent home.

Station In-charge Rakesh Roshan Singh stated that police reached the spot promptly after receiving information and have launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused using CCTV footage.
