A shocking case from Patna’s Ashokpuri area has sent shockwaves across Bihar. Sophia Parveen alias Rukhsar (22), a nursing student, was allegedly pushed off the third-floor balcony of Soho Nirmala Apartments by her live-in partner, Amit Kumar.
CCTV footage that has now gone viral shows Rukhsar plunging from the building and hitting a nearby school’s boundary wall before collapsing to the ground. Investigators say Amit then carried her blood-soaked body in an auto-rickshaw to IGIMS Hospital, where he dumped her on a stretcher and fled—all of which was captured on hospital CCTV cameras.
Police have confirmed that Amit rented the flat on September 9 using a fake Aadhaar card, claiming he and Rukhsar were married. The landlord later verified that the documents were forged.
Rukhsar’s family, who live in Bhangha Balua village in Bettiah, learned of her death three days later when her childhood friend saw her photo in a Dainik Bhaskar news report. Her sister, Shabana Khatun, said Rukhsar had introduced Amit as a police officer and that the family had trusted him completely.
“He came to our home, claimed to work in the police, and took my sister with him to Patna. We believed him,” Shabana said tearfully. “He should be punished just as brutally as he killed her.”
Police investigations revealed that Rukhsar and Amit had been living together for over a month. On September 30 at around 4:12 PM, Amit allegedly pushed Rukhsar from their third-floor balcony, causing her instant death. Instead of seeking help from nearby hospitals, he travelled 7 km to IGIMS, apparently to delay detection.
The Danapur police have registered a case of murder, and a manhunt has been launched for Amit Kumar. A lookout notice has also been issued for the auto driver who helped him transport the body.
Forensic teams have inspected the flat and found scattered clothes but no sign of Amit. The case has sparked outrage on social media, with many demanding swift justice and questioning safety for women in live-in relationships.
