Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this cold and frosty morning.
00:05The risk of ice as well.
00:06First of all, let me take you through the bigger picture for the next 48 hours.
00:09We do have a weather front skirting the far south.
00:11You'll see a little rain here.
00:13Cold elsewhere with the risk of ice towards the northwest.
00:16This cloud and rain moves in through the afternoon and into evening time.
00:20The winds will pick up some strength as well.
00:22And then look towards the south where this feature will run in,
00:25bringing with it some wet and windy weather.
00:27A rain warning has been issued for central and southern parts of England and Wales.
00:30More about that in a moment.
00:32First of all, here's your ice warning in the zone we're most concerned about
00:35with some slippery surfaces, particularly where you've seen those showers
00:38through the last 24 hours and also we still have lying snow.
00:42A rash of showers across Orkney as well as Shetland,
00:45but some clearer skies extending across eastern and southern Scotland.
00:48Northern Ireland having a dry morning.
00:49The cloud will thicken from the west and a frosty morning elsewhere as well
00:53with some freezing fog patches across central parts of England and Wales.
00:57Notice the rain just nudging in along the south coast.
01:00It will never really amount to very much,
01:02but some wet weather just arriving towards the home counties
01:05through the morning into the afternoon.
01:07So through the day, some sunshine across many areas,
01:10but that sunshine turning hazy as the cloud slowly thickens from the west,
01:14bringing with it by around mid to late morning,
01:17some outbreaks of rain to the western side of Scotland,
01:20western parts of Northern Ireland and it will nudge further eastwards
01:23through the morning into the afternoon.
01:25You can see a little rain extending from Dorset towards Essex
01:29as we head through the day, perhaps even nudging further north
01:32towards the home counties through the afternoon.
01:36The winds will be a feature towards the west through the afternoon
01:38and it's going to be a chilly day wherever you are.
01:41The cloud's thickening all the while,
01:43so after a bright start across many areas,
01:45it will turn cloudy through the afternoon.
01:46Here's your warning zone for that rain on Thursday.
01:50It kicks in at 9am.
01:52You can see up to 40 to 70 millimetres of rain,
01:55so some persistent bursts are likely.
01:58Before that though, this band of showery rain continues its passage
02:01eastwards through this evening and overnight,
02:04wintry over the Pennines as well as the Highlands.
02:07Elsewhere, a fair amount of cloud temperatures won't be as low
02:09into the early hours of Thursday morning relative to this morning,
02:12with a rush of showers moving in across the north
02:14and the west of Scotland clipping Northern Ireland.
02:16More cloud through the day as we see this rain slowly intensify
02:20as we head through the afternoon.
02:22And so we're likely to see quite a lot of wet weather
02:24across southern and eastern areas as we head through Thursday.
02:28Pushing northwards, there's a chance it could turn to snow,
02:30particularly over the higher ground further north.
02:33More details obviously.
02:34Check out our 10-day trend as we head through today.
02:37That will be issued on our YouTube channel.
02:39And yesterday, the deep dive with Ada McGiven.
02:41So all in all, lots of information out there and I'll see you again soon.
