29 December - National morning forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Hello, good morning, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast.
00:04High pressure in charge of our weather still for another couple of days,
00:08keeping it largely dry and settled.
00:11But it will change as we move through towards the new year.
00:14Low pressure starts to dominate Scandinavia and we see a colder northerly flow developing.
00:20For many of us, an increasing risk of some sleet and snow showers,
00:24particularly across the north of the UK, come New Year's Day.
00:27But for Monday morning, a dry picture out there, some thick patches of fog through the central belt.
00:35So there could be some tricky travelling conditions first thing,
00:38so do take extra care if you are out this morning.
00:41And then this should slowly lift and break as we go through the day.
00:45For most of us, a cloudy day again, lots of dry weather around.
00:48A weak weather front could introduce some light rain or showers along the east coast of England and Scotland.
00:54But most places stay dry.
00:55Best of the sunny breaks again across western parts of the UK, but they could be fleeting here at times too.
01:02And in terms of temperatures, similar to what we've seen in the last few days, rising to around six or seven Celsius.
01:08They may linger nearer to freezing where we keep some fog patches through the central belt.
01:13Into the evening time, an increased risk of some showers down eastern parts of England.
01:18These pushing their way south and westwards, but fading as we head into the early hours.
01:22Clear spells following on behind.
01:25Quite a widespread frost forming across Scotland once more.
01:28Temperatures in the countryside falling down to around minus six or minus seven.
01:33Towns and cities nearer to freezing.
01:34Where we keep cloud across England and Wales, Northern Ireland, we could see temperatures around three or four degrees.
01:40But any prolonged clear spells, we will see some frost and fog forming.
01:43On Tuesday, generally a dry start to the day.
01:48Plenty of sunny spells breaking through as the cloud will hopefully tend to break up more than what we've seen over recent days.
01:55The risk of a few showers around the coast, but most places staying dry.
01:58And again, temperatures six or seven degrees.
02:01But where any fog lingers through the central belt once more, could struggle around two or three degrees.
02:05So chilly feel here.
02:07And into the evening time, still plenty of dry weather.
02:11Wednesday, New Year's Eve, we're looking at plenty of dry weather around.
02:15An increasing risk of some showers across Norman, Scotland.
02:18These becoming a bit more widespread as we get towards the end of the week into the new year.
02:24And turning colder as well.
02:26Temperatures falling away.
02:27So an increasing chance of some of those showers falling as sleet and snow, particularly across the north.
