19 January - National weather forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good morning and welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Office.
00:05We've had a lot of cloud of recent days.
00:07Low cloud, outbreaks of rain and drizzle are quite murky too.
00:10Will anything change?
00:11We're looking at the bigger picture.
00:13We'll see further low pressure systems moving in from the Atlantic,
00:16slow moving across the UK thanks to an area of high pressure over Europe,
00:21stopping those weather systems move through quickly.
00:23So the outlook is generally cloudy for many with further spells of rain at times.
00:28For this morning, it is generally a cloudy, dull start to the day,
00:32some hill fog in places, rain and drizzle.
00:34We have two bands of rain through the day today,
00:36one across western parts of Scotland into Northern Ireland,
00:39giving some heavier bursts from time to time,
00:42another band of rain across northeast Scotland,
00:44much of northern England, central and southern parts of England and Wales as well.
00:50And the rain will be on and off through the day.
00:52It could be heavy in one or two spots,
00:54but generally low cloud and murky conditions associated with this.
00:58But in between these bands of cloud and rain,
01:00there are some spells of sunshine around.
01:02Central and northern parts of Scotland seeing the best of today's sunshine
01:06and some glimmers of sunshine across western fringes of England and Wales as well.
01:11Perhaps east Anglia down into Kent also seeing some brighter skies.
01:15And with winds coming in from the south,
01:17temperatures lifting to around 10 or 11 Celsius
01:19across southern parts of England and Wales between 5 and 7 degrees
01:23across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England.
01:27Through into the evening time and overnight,
01:29these bands of cloud and rain just start to push north and eastward.
01:32Still one or two heavier bursts in there,
01:34but generally showery in nature.
01:36And we'll see the hill fog starting clearer a little during the early hours.
01:40And we'll see some drier weather moving in,
01:43some clearer skies across parts of Norman Island,
01:46Wales down into the west country as well,
01:49ahead of the next weather system moving in for Tuesday.
01:52Winds coming in from the south,
01:53a lot of clouds still around,
01:55so temperatures generally between 4 and 7 Celsius.
01:59So a fairly cloudy start to Tuesday morning,
02:01but there'll be some bright spells around,
02:03still some fog in places too.
02:05The remnants of the weekend's weather systems moving out into the North Sea,
02:10allowing most places to become dry and bright.
02:12However, the next area of low pressure will bring some rain
02:15and some stronger winds to parts of Northern Ireland,
02:18western fringes of Wales down into parts of Cornwall as well,
02:22accompanied by some gales around the coast by the afternoon.
02:25Breezy elsewhere, but dry with some sunny spells
02:27and temperatures up to around 10 or 11 degrees in the southeast once more.
02:32Elsewhere, generally between 7 and 8 degrees.
02:35As we look through the week ahead,
02:37low pressure dominates.
02:38We'll see further strong winds,
02:40spells of rain pushing north and eastwards
02:42as areas of low pressure move in from the Atlantic,
02:45perhaps turning to snow over the higher ground of Scotland
02:48come the end of the week,
02:49but generally for most,
02:50it remains on the mild side
02:52and winds coming in from the south.
