00:04High pressure continues to dominate our festive period, bringing plenty of dry weather, though a lot of cloud with it.
00:12We'll see subtle changes over the next few days. I'm hopeful Tuesday will be a little brighter.
00:17Before then, New Year's Day, we start to see a colder northerly airflow across the UK,
00:22introducing the risk of sleet and snow, particularly across the north of the UK.
00:26But in the meantime, a lot of dry weather around.
00:30Sunday evening, largely cloudy skies across the UK.
00:33We've seen some clear spells in places through the day, particularly across Scotland,
00:37and here they will continue overnight, and that will allow temperatures to drop away,
00:42minus six, minus seven in the countryside once again.
00:44But there could be some thick fog developing through the central belt,
00:48so this could lead to some tricky travelling conditions first thing on Monday morning.
00:52With a lot of cloud around, temperatures will hold up around four or five degrees,
00:56but where we see any clear spells develop, we could even see a touch of frost even across southern areas
01:01as temperatures drop close to, if not below freezing.
01:04But the most widespread frost will be across parts of Scotland, with some fog patches to start the day here.
01:11But for most of us, a grey start to the day, a chilly start to Monday morning, a lot of cloud around.
01:16There is a weak weather front slowly sinking southwards across eastern parts of Scotland,
01:20down the North Sea, and then affecting eastern coastlines, which could bring a few showers here,
01:25with a brisk northerly breeze developing.
01:28But for most, winds generally light, a lot of cloud around.
01:31Best of the sunny breaks across western Scotland, northern Ireland,
01:34I'm hopeful it'll be a bit brighter here compared to the weekend,
01:37and also some glimmers of sunshine around western fringes of England and Wales.
01:42But for most, it will be dry.
01:44The cloud thick enough may be for the odd spot of drizzle.
01:46Temperatures lifting around average, six or seven degrees for most,
01:50but could linger around two or three degrees where we keep any fog patches through the day,
01:54through the central belt.
01:56Through Monday evening time, this weather front continues to give the risk of some patchy rain
02:00down eastern counties of England.
02:02But it fizzles out as we head through into the early hours, though,
02:05slowly pushing its way westwards.
02:07Clearing skies behind means a little bit more of a chance of a widespread frost developing,
02:11where we see those clear skies again, minus six, minus seven in the countryside of Scotland.
02:17Towns and cities holding up around four or five Celsius where we keep the cloud.
02:22And there'll be also some fog patches as well.
02:24So Tuesday, a brighter day in store, more in the way as sunny spells are around.
02:28There will be the risk of some showers, particularly again down the east coast of England
02:32through the English Channel as well.
02:34We'll hear some showers possible on coming towards coastal stretches,
02:39but a cold picture across the north of the UK.
02:42If we see any fog lingering Glasgow there, around two Celsius as a maximum temperature.
02:47For most of us, between six and eight degrees.
02:49So feeling rather chilly, but a little brighter with that sunny sunshine around.
02:54And in the outlook for New Year's Eve into New Year's Day,
02:56we slowly start to turn a bit more unsettled.
02:59There'll be plenty of dry weather around, some sunny spells,
03:01a weather system pushing south through Thursday, introducing some colder air by Friday
03:06and into next weekend, an increasing risk of some sleet and snow showers.
03:11We can see that the temperature is generally around average,
03:13but starting to turn colder from the north by Friday.
