18 January - National weather forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast. A lot of cloud in this
00:05forecast over the next few days. Slow-moving weather systems across the
00:09UK, all trying to move in from the Atlantic but slowing down as they reach
00:13the UK, an area of high pressure over Europe stopping their progression. But
00:18some more active systems trying to come in from the southwest Tuesday and into
00:22Wednesday could give some stronger winds and heavier rain in places. So here's the
00:27forecast for the rest of Sunday. A lot of cloud across the UK, outbreaks of rain
00:32and drizzle pushing northwards. It's been grey and murky with hill fog through
00:37this morning and it continues to stay that way for much of the afternoon. There
00:41will be some glimmers of sunshine in southeast England, parts of East Anglia
00:45down into Kent seeing some brighter skies, western fringes of Wales down into
00:50Cornwall also seeing some sunnier skies and dry for Northern Ireland and also
00:55parts of the highlands here, sunny spells. So not everywhere will be grey and dull
00:59and temperature wise generally near average for most between six and eight
01:03degrees but in the southeast where we do see some brighter skies 10 or 11 degrees
01:08so feeling quite pleasant compared to the chillier weather we saw earlier in the
01:12year. As we head through the evening time and overnight this weather system just
01:18stays in place so further rain pushes northwards across central southern parts of
01:23England into the Midlands up into northeast England and northeast Scotland.
01:27Either side of this weather system some clear spells where temperatures could dip
01:32away close to freezing and some mist and fog patches forming. Then another
01:36weather system moves into parts of Northern Ireland giving further rain here. In terms of
01:42temperatures, due to the cloud outbreaks of rain and drizzle murky conditions
01:46generally around three to six Celsius but where we do see any clearer spells a touch of
01:52frost is still possible. So on Monday morning, a grey start for many. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle,
01:58hill fog in places, there could be some tricky travelling conditions but there will be places in
02:02between the weather systems that see some bright to sunny spells as we move through the day.
02:06Parts of East Anglia, Southeast England again, western fringes of Wales down into Cornwall for a time and
02:14also parts of Scotland seeing some sunny spells elsewhere. Generally cloudy with further rain in places and temperatures
02:21once more similar, generally between 6 and 9 Celsius, 10 or 11 across the far south in any brighter skies.
02:27So weather systems not really moving very much over the next few days into Monday evening,
02:34further pulses of rain and drizzle low cloud just pushing their way northwards. And then as we look through the week ahead,
02:41as I mentioned, sort of weather systems trying to come in a bit more active, bringing rain a bit more widely
02:48across the UK, some stronger winds there too. So there is signs that as we move through the week,
02:54we could see something a little wetter and windier. But overall, weather systems will continue to bring a lot of cloud across the UK.
