00:00Knuckles Show episode 6. It wastes my time while playing dramatic music as Knuckles is on an elevator ride.
00:08There's definitely going to be a fakeout because it's a kids' show, or at least it's written like one,
00:14which is ironic for a show with an adult as the main character, giving the impression that's targeted at adults.
00:22The agents start shooting the elevator as soon as it opens. It turns out they've shot at a mascot costume.
00:30And Knuckles ambushes them, and Wade calls the agents and tells them Knuckles was listening the whole time.
00:37And it's brought back the fact that earlier he had Knuckles listen to what he was saying, so he knew
00:43what to say to his dad.
00:45So that avoids some drama I wasn't looking forward to.
00:49I thought Knuckles was going to be mad at him for betraying him, and I'd have to deal with that.
00:54And finally, there's a good fight scene for the first time in the show, because Knuckles is actually hitting someone
01:01a bunch.
01:02And it feels so little justified that he doesn't instantly die from the super strength, because at least he's wearing
01:09battle armor.
01:11So, you could assume that armor is made of special robotnic tech.
01:17So he's hitting it, but it absorbs all the concussive force?
01:23At least they tried.
01:25The music's nice, too, but not quite epic enough.
01:30And then it cuts away from the fight to waste a bunch of my time, with Wade trying to rescue
01:35his family, when it could have just been mostly off-screen.
01:39Instead of just instantly showing him releasing them.
01:43And most of it sucks, because his sister wants to dislocate her thumb to get out of the handcuffs the
01:49FBI way, even though it hurts.
01:51And why didn't she do this a lot earlier then, if she cared so much about Wade not rescuing her?
01:58Someone sent it to the room, and the fight continues.
02:01Thankfully.
02:03Eventually, both of the agents get sent into the portal to the other dimension.
02:07Which, based on what Robotnic said in the previous movie, a lesser man would die there.
02:14So, just like the other agent, they're dead.
02:18It's satisfying when the most entertaining agent gets smacked into by the other as karma for laughing at her.
02:26It feels really underwhelming that they got done with the bad guys so early into the episode,
02:31just to force the bowling tournament to be a huge amount of the episodes.
02:37When they should have known, that's not why you like Sonic.
02:42Why did we have to get shown the sister with a dislocated thumb?
02:47At least it's karma for a hurting Wade with a fork, so I see the appeal to it.
02:52I get why it wasn't written, but it's disproportionate.
02:56It should have been common sense to only show the last two times the bowling pins got knocked down in
03:02the tournament.
03:03Because who cares about any of this in a Sonic story?
03:07Why is there such a huge amount of time taken up by these boring commentators trying to make bowling entertaining
03:14when it hasn't even started happening yet?
03:17They stop the music, and Wade doesn't show up, and they keep turning it on and off, hoping he'll show
03:23up.
03:24It better be explained why it took so long to get here.
03:28One line could have explained that he had to go to the bathroom first, so I guess that's it.
03:35The problem is, it's so obvious that it only got written to have more padding, so it takes you out
03:41of the story because now you have to try to come up with an explanation for why it took so
03:45long to get here.
03:47Because the commentators had so much to say, so I was assuming he was on his way here the whole
03:54time they were talking.
03:56He had more than enough time to get here from the place he was fighting at.
04:00The only explanation for the rest of the story being boring is that they mismanaged the budget of the show,
04:06so they didn't have the money to have a fight team for most of the episode.
04:11Like a normal person would write for an action series.
04:15You could have had Knuckles get knocked out or tied up, and have Wade do a bunch of punching.
04:23You know, I would have accepted that, because that would still be action.
04:26I don't need to see Knuckles doing it.
04:29It's punching either way.
04:30And maybe if they didn't waste so much money on licensed songs, they would have had the budget for a
04:39lot more CGI action scenes.
04:41For showing Knuckles a lot more.
04:44But maybe it cost a lot more to animate Knuckles than it does to license out songs.
04:50All that's really worth saying about the scene is that Wade's dad taunts him on not being famous, which is
04:57there to establish that he's still an asshole despite feeling guilty about betraying him earlier.
05:03Why did they even write him to feel guilty about betraying his family?
05:08If he's like this.
05:10If they're going to establish him to be like this.
05:13Instead of making him ask if his family got rescued.
05:19I'd have a lot of good to say about this if there was anything to say, but there's nothing.
05:24Just bullying.
05:26So it's going to look like I skipped ahead to the end.
05:29But what other choice do I have?
05:31It's either that or just say it's boring and dragged out a million times for every line.
05:37All there's to say about this part of the story is...
05:40Why did Knuckles get cold honey casually by someone serving drinks?
05:45He sounds like an adult, not a kid.
05:49And now there's really no excuse for him barely being visible in the episodes before this because he's just sitting
05:54around humans without anyone treating him differently.
05:57I seriously read on TV Tripp's page the excuse that people just assume he's somebody in a costume and that's
06:05why they're not freaking out.
06:08The second he blinks they'll know it's not a costume.
06:11I'm sure he would have blinked in front of people before.
06:14So they know it's him.
06:16And why do they serve him drinks if he doesn't have any money or credit card with them?
06:22I guess they assume that Wade's going to pay for it.
06:26Eventually, without the bowling tournament getting to end, Knuckles hears scream so he runs outside and Metal Tentacles grab his
06:34chest attached to a giant mecha and he gets swung into things.
06:40Why did he get let go of?
06:42That makes no sense.
06:45It's a lampshader that he thought he'd give him more of a fight when he keeps lying down.
06:50Well, he just didn't have rings.
06:53But I assume he fell through some more.
06:56Because otherwise he wouldn't be able to fight later in the episode because he would have been realistically injured.
07:03Then for budget reasons, I guess, it cuts back to the bowling tournament.
07:08Even though nobody would want to see that at this point.
07:13There's nothing to say about it that doesn't apply to the other part of it.
07:17Other than it's good that the last pin didn't fall for Wade's dad.
07:22I'm glad they're the commentator's lampshade that normally it doesn't take this long for Bullers to bowl and them monologuing
07:29is weird.
07:31Why even bother writing them some monologue?
07:33They're just saying stuff to each other that they already told each other.
07:36And it seems like they're just having the dialogue that they would have had in a stereotypical generic movie about
07:46this sort of premise.
07:48I get them not being penalized for talking too much though.
07:52I guess even if it is explicitly against the rules, they don't actually care enough to enforce it.
07:59I already guessed from a mile away that the last pin would fall for Wade the second I saw it
08:04standing.
08:05So they should have just done it faster.
08:08What tension is there?
08:10We all knew.
08:12They should have known we would have immediately assumed Wade would win.
08:16So what's the point of dragging it out?
08:20Finally, Knuckles gets thrown through the wall.
08:23Why would he get thrown through it again instead of just being grabbed again and carried to where the bad
08:27guy wants him to go?
08:30It's really a shame the Eggman ripoff didn't get a memorable name.
08:34Wade goes outside and eventually Knuckles gets told he'll be drained of his power.
08:39And I look forward to finding out what he wants his power for.
08:44And he gets knocked out.
08:45The pacing's really slow in this part too.
08:49So I'm really bored right now.
08:51Even after Wanda shows up in a car.
08:54I'm glad she did something to contribute in a dangerous situation.
09:01It's confusing that she's even helping him.
09:04Well, I guess it's just so her mom won't be sad because Wade died.
09:09There's a sappy scene with sappy music playing.
09:12And clips of the past episodes showing because Wade keeps flattering Knuckles while he's moving his hand with a tech
09:18glove on.
09:19Maybe I would care more about this if he spent more time with Knuckles.
09:25But they've only known each other for like a day.
09:27Why would Knuckles really care about Wade at this point?
09:31I get him feeling sorry for him right away because of his tragic backstory but not loving him.
09:39Finally, Knuckles grabs the metal tentacles and shocks them.
09:43It's cool looking but it's not that impressive because at this point I'd rather see him fight the way he
09:49does in the games.
09:49Because at least in the games he did more fighting.
09:53Even if it was only in gameplay.
09:55Him having electricity powers is only an admission that they don't think he's cool enough as it is.
10:03To the point where new audiences would think he was cool.
10:06So they have to give him electricity powers too.
10:09That he doesn't need.
10:11Because it's not like he charges up a battery with them.
10:15And all Knuckles does is a few punches.
10:18There should have been a lot more.
10:20And a waste of time they could have spent on him hitting the Mechamore.
10:24Not like it would have been that satisfying anyway compared to seeing him hit the actual man.
10:30He could have had battle armor on just in case.
10:34To justify him surviving it.
10:40Why does Wade's dad think he would get away with stealing the trophy in full view of other people.
10:46And would probably be a place with a camera in it.
10:49Considering the time period.
10:51This is ridiculous.
10:54At least I get to see him get stopped by his acts in Kent.
10:58But it was cheesy that the show ended with Knuckles wanting to high five Wade.
11:03Like he's ever been that cheerful in the show.
11:06Or anywhere.
11:07He knew him for like five seconds.
11:11Anybody could have used that tech glove.
11:14He didn't prove himself as a warrior.
11:17He didn't prove himself as an amazing apprentice.
11:20Aside from proving his courage.
11:23Though I'm kind of glad that they were realistic.
11:26By not ending the show with him being a martial arts expert.
11:30So it really ended without us finding out what he wanted to use his power for.
11:36I'm guessing it's literally as predictable and lazy as he wanted to take over the world.
11:40Even though he never hinted that he was interested in running a country.
11:45And all the work that would require that has nothing to do with what he did his whole life.
11:50If he was interested in running a country you'd think he would have gone to the politician career.
11:57It could have said he had run for office and didn't win the election at one point.
12:03This episode by John Whittington had two sections to it.
12:07The best fight scenes in the show for Knuckles.
12:10And an extremely boring bowling tournament section they keep cutting back to.
12:15And what ruined the episode was that the fight scenes weren't most of it.
12:21The fight scenes were okay to watch at the time.
12:24But they're disappointingly done because there's not enough time some Knuckles and Wade got to hit their enemies.
12:30And there wasn't any creativity at all.
12:33I already saw one of the game characters get grabbed by metal tentacles in a Sonic X episode.
12:39They're only good scenes because he had a good amount of hits compared to the almost zero.
12:43The villain was taken seriously and was enough of a threat that he knocked out Knuckles twice.
12:49Which is something that's good to do sometimes.
12:52So the real main character could get to fight him too.
12:55But the pacing was so slow the whole episode that I had no patience for when it padded out the
13:01story even more
13:01by trying to be sentimental and sincere about pushing their friendship.
13:06That amounted to almost nothing anyway since Wade never interacted with him in the third movie.
13:11I was just wishing I saw him use Attack Club Against the Machine from a side view.
13:17It just didn't feel enough like he was actually fighting it.
13:21Because of that it didn't feel as satisfying.
13:24They could have shown Knuckles punching the Eggman ripoff instead of showing me clips from past episodes.
13:30Or anything related to the bowling tournament.
13:34But either they ran out of budget.
13:36Or the makers of this episode had no idea what they were doing.
13:40Probably the latter because they could have had the humans do more fighting.
13:47They could have easily had a longer fight scene with the agents.
13:52They felt like the main villains of the show.
13:54So no wonder it's underwhelming to have the buyer be the final villain.
14:04There's no excuse for such slow pacing for the whole episode and showing so much of the bowling section instead
14:11of just the first line from the commentators over it and the last throw Wade did.
14:16Because obviously nobody would care about this boredom since even if it wasn't in Sonic, an action series, it was
14:23obvious there was no way the writer of a kid's tone story would take the chance of Wade losing the
14:29tournament.
14:30Even though it would make sense because Wade's supposed to be an incompetent loser and there was no hint of
14:38him getting better at bowling.
14:40He lost to a little girl the last time.
14:43I can accept it just fine that he won though because everyone gets lucky sometimes.
14:48And I assume that the five-year-old girl was just a prodigy at bowling.
14:53Most stories based around sports always end with the main character winning.
14:57I can imagine there was some art house indie movie that didn't but that's all.
15:03The only surprise was that the show didn't redeem his father at the end.
15:07It's not like I was outright frustrated by this episode.
15:11I was just especially bored in a way that I didn't feel about the rest of the show because it
15:16was especially obvious it was wasting my time.
15:20All of the bad guys were paper-thin forgettable humans anyway, so none of them really deserved to be talked
15:26about like they're people instead of just plot devices for conflict.
15:31I thought they were cool and refreshing because they're regular humans who fight with technology that isn't robots.
15:38That was already done with the Dark Legion, but it was a good idea, so it was worth using again.
15:44If they had Knuckles just fighting robots, I'd be like, I don't hate robots.
15:49I know they're just doing what they're programmed to.
15:52So it's not cathartic to see.
15:55Nobody goes to Sonic game stories because they're really looking forward to seeing Sonic fight robots because they hate them
16:02so much.
16:03So it's better to have the characters fighting actual bad people.
16:08That's cathartic.
16:10So it's not bad because it's not exactly like the games in that sense.
16:15They just should have had a lot more fighting of those bad guys.
16:19As much as I dreaded watching the show, it was a better experience than I thought it'd be.
16:25I usually didn't mind watching it despite wishing there was a lot more action.
16:30Probably because it didn't constantly depict someone as impossibly stupid.
16:35And I didn't outright hate anything but this episode and the first one.
16:40Because that one made him impossibly stupid.
16:44But Wade's supposed to be an idiot.
16:47So it felt more believable when he was being dumb.
16:51And it's not like his stupidity drove the whole plot and the entire show.
16:56I'm glad Wade was engaging and interesting to watch so it didn't defend me how much focus there was on
17:02him.
17:03Despite being a human who's not from the games, he still felt like main character material.
17:08Because he had a backstory and a personal goal as well as a fully-fledged entertaining personality.
17:16There were a couple of moments that were impressively charming.
17:19They did the tone right considering that the show had no chance of being good.
17:23And it was ridiculous that there even was a live-action Sonic show.
17:27But that doesn't make any of the episodes good.
17:30They still didn't hit the standard they were supposed to.
17:34Because there wasn't enough action.
17:36Most of it was just bland dialogue.
17:40And Knuckles wasn't all that good of a character.
17:43He hardly felt like Knuckles.
17:45Didn't sound anything like him and give off the same relatably serious vibe.
17:51And I wouldn't have liked him even if there wasn't anything to compare him to.
17:54Because sometimes he was just unlikable.
17:57But it was the best Sonic show I've seen in a long time.
18:01It's not saying very much.
18:02Which, ironically, it wasn't as bad to experience as Sonic Prime.
18:07Because, well, Sonic Prime is the closest they've gotten to getting a Sonic cartoon right.
18:13Because it's mostly action.
18:15I just hated how stupid Sonic was in that show.
18:18So, it only got tolerable by the last two seasons.
18:23Because they toned down how stupid Sonic was and how much it drove the plot.
18:27But they also messed up by not having most of the actual game characters in the show.
18:32That's it.
