00:04Surprisingly, it starts with Dot on Paw from Team Sonic Racing, who I thought would never show up again.
00:10He says what he loves about racing completely unprompted to himself, to remind the audience of his personality.
00:18I'm sure this could have happened when the plot was actually progressing around him.
00:23He finds out about warp rings on the internet.
00:26Why doesn't he have the browser taking up the entire screen?
00:30And the look of his desktop shortcut icons is so lazy.
00:35They're just squares.
00:37This can't be how they're supposed to look in canon.
00:40The story weighs panels on him saying that he's going to invite Sonic and his friends to another race,
00:45even though we see them getting the letters in the next page anyways.
00:50At least it's faster pacing than it could have been,
00:53because we don't see what they all said before and after finding the letter.
00:57But now I just have to assume the reason he knows where they live is because they told him,
01:04because he said he could only invite them to another race if they do that.
01:08It's pretty stupid of them to even consider going after how dangerous the last race was.
01:14So it doesn't make sense for literally all of them to go.
01:19Sonic's standing in front of a house that doesn't look like the one that's shaped like Tails' head
01:23that got shown multiple times in IDW to be what Tails' house looks like.
01:29It was never established that Tails has multiple houses for no reason.
01:34That he'd have to pay the bills for both of.
01:38And maybe make the energy generators for both of.
01:43And Occam's razor is the principle that the simplest assumption is probably the case sometimes,
01:49and it works for figuring out the intent of the writers.
01:52It's common sense to assume this is being depicted as Sonic's house and isn't explained otherwise.
01:57So the writer would know we'd assume that,
02:00and if he wanted us to think that somehow a little kid owns this house
02:04when it's already ridiculous he owns the other one,
02:07he would have told us that.
02:09As someone who always assumed Sonic owned where Tails lived because he's older,
02:14it was a nice surprise to see this, especially in a comic that's supposedly canon.
02:20At least that's Sega's excuse for restricting its freedom.
02:23Sega didn't make sure there was no chance anyone would think this was Sonic's house.
02:28So clearly they either agree with this idea like they did in Sonic's shuffle,
02:33or don't care.
02:34I like that Amy's wearing something new,
02:36and it's a picture of Eggman on a punching bag.
02:40But it was tough to figure out what it was.
02:43So it references Sonic battle where she cared about exercise.
02:47There it was to lose weight so Sonic would date her.
02:50And you'd think she'd have lost enough by now.
02:53So of course the reason she's still doing this has to be to get stronger.
02:58You'll notice the writer knows about Sonic battle,
03:01but still chose not to have Tails' house from Sonic battle here.
03:06So he knows what Tails' house is supposed to look like.
03:09The story goes back to wasting my time.
03:12Telling me stuff instead of showing me stuff, which would be better to look at.
03:17A vehicle is going to bring them to a new competition
03:20that he uses what he insists on calling travel rings instead of warp rings.
03:25Then why won't he simply use the travel rings themselves
03:29to warp them to the race and save on energy?
03:32I guess the excuse for not calling them warp rings in-universe
03:36is that they don't connect to the special zone.
03:39I wonder if the writer wanted to call them warp rings,
03:42but got told no because Sega would rather not use any ideas
03:46that aren't from people from Japan unless they're popular enough,
03:49which totally doesn't have an unfortunate implication.
03:52The story wastes my time for a while.
03:55The characters explain who Don'empa is,
03:58even though that was already redundantly reiterated in the first page of the story.
04:04Once again, the story's got repetitive, redundant exposition.
04:08I'm starting to think he's just as bad as Daniel Barnes with Show Don't Tell.
04:13So it'd be pretty silly to think that it ruins the writing of one issue,
04:17but not this one,
04:18because this is making this a bore fest to a worse extent,
04:22because at least Grapnik Island 1 had a lot less dialogue
04:26and was a new premise.
04:29Well, this is a fucking adaptation.
04:33Sonic lampshades Knuckles not being here
04:36and says it's because he hates fun.
04:38In IDW, he does.
04:41In the games, he abandons the Master Emerald
04:43just to go airboarding a few times.
04:46But then Frontiers went back to him being in character for the most part.
04:50But it's not following that as the excuse,
04:53because he's only not participating in this to help Big look for Froggy,
04:58who lives nowhere near the Master Emerald, of course.
05:01So how did Big get to Knuckles?
05:05He couldn't have called him on his cell phone.
05:07I didn't know he had a cell phone.
05:10So Tails flew Big to Angel Island?
05:14Or did Big move to Angel Island because he did that recently?
05:19At that point, it would make more sense
05:22if Knuckles went down to Big,
05:24which would also be out of character for IDW Knuckles.
05:28Wouldn't Big just fish where he is?
05:31Wouldn't he rather fish on all the land around him
05:35instead of Angel Island?
05:36So now this makes no sense,
05:38because it doesn't explain that he buried the Emerald first,
05:42or explain that he's still on Angel Island,
05:46and why Big's there then?
05:48They do need to explain this every single time he ditches it,
05:51because the series doesn't always prioritize making sense.
05:54It's a series with the music plants in it.
05:57So no normal person's gonna default to assuming the story secretly makes sense
06:01when the writer didn't tell you it did.
06:03Why is Sonic glaring at Big like he hates him?
06:07His only interactions with him before were friendly.
06:11Don and Pod explains that he'll be capturing the reactions of Sonic's friends
06:14via livestream until they can show up.
06:17He's just explaining what we already figured out.
06:21So this wasted my time too.
06:24The more this treating the audience like idiots keeps happening,
06:28the more all these little problems are gonna add up to one big problem.
06:33Judd tries to get Sonic's attention,
06:35getting depicted as pathetic for being obsessed with wanting attention and victory over him.
06:40He's a thief with a lame voice,
06:42so it makes sense to do what the fans want by having to take that scrappy moment.
06:46And he didn't insist on a race at a bad time,
06:49right before they met the genie hologram.
06:52Then there's another one against Shadow that does the same thing to him.
06:56Because Sonic lies that Shadow missed him to get back at him.
07:00Which is deserved with how he's depicted nowadays.
07:04Good thing Shadow gets to snap back at him.
07:06But it's so weak.
07:08Then the comic awaits an entire page on the race starting.
07:13Amy says this is a total upgrade from last time,
07:16but I don't see how.
07:18So it's completely forced that she and Tails would think this
07:21after they just started the race.
07:24And nothing seems different.
07:28Cream says she thinks this is wonderful.
07:31I could have already assumed that from her smile.
07:35Well, at least Vanilla stopped being unusually overprotective
07:40because she let her go on this dangerous race.
07:44Maybe she didn't know it was dangerous.
07:45She wastes my time asking a stupid question
07:48that's instantly answered when Jet mocks Shadow as
07:51Sadness the Hedgehog.
07:53Even though he doesn't know his past.
07:56And he only sees him looking serious all the time.
07:59Not sad.
08:01So does this mean that Maria getting shot back's story of his
08:04his public information?
08:06So Jet just miraculously got told about it for no reason.
08:09Who would have let that go public?
08:12People found out about...
08:14Or at least the president found out about...
08:16Gerald and Maria.
08:18But...
08:19And the story goes back to wasting my time.
08:22Having the characters talk competitively with each other for a while,
08:25which is the same experience you already would have gotten
08:28in Team Sonic Racing itself.
08:31I can't wait for this boring story to be over.
08:34Every extra bit of dialogue is making it take longer
08:37for an uncreative story with no plot.
08:40Literally, the game had no plot.
08:43No cutscenes.
08:44But that's no excuse.
08:46When Shadow uses something against Sonic's car,
08:49Jet calls him tough,
08:51even though anyone could have gotten and thrown that item.
08:54One single compliment causes Dodd on Pa
08:57to think they're friends.
09:00And there's more of the characters competing with each other.
09:03Surprisingly showing Omega is using a fire attack on a living being.
09:07I'm just forced to assume the reason it didn't hurt him
09:10and he got out of the car was that Storm jumped out to avoid it
09:15because the art didn't show it.
09:17It was more concerned with showing Rouge complain
09:20while Omega's doing nothing.
09:22There's even more of characters competing in an uncreative way after this.
09:27Wave doesn't mind the insults because she doesn't believe Rouge
09:30and Rouge doesn't mind the insults from her
09:32so there's no catharsis in the insults.
09:35There was a little in Wave screaming as she dodged something.
09:40Why does Rouge think this one-on-one of her being insulted is a bonus?
09:45Why would Wave appreciate that catty remark?
09:49This only goes back to wasting my time.
09:52Especially by making Eggman talk too much
09:54just reminding the audience of what they already know
09:57like Amy does.
09:59There's not much of a point in Amy telling him off
10:02because he doesn't mind.
10:03And it's just weird favoritism that she gets to do it
10:07and not Sonic, the main character with the attitude.
10:11Why not both?
10:13The characters waste a bunch of time asking why he's here
10:16when the story could just skip straight to Eggman explaining
10:19he intercepted the invite
10:21and bragging about his bomb plan.
10:24Orbot saying he's along for the ride
10:26only makes me start to wonder why he brought him and Qbot here
10:29but not Sage
10:31considering that she's playable in this game
10:34and shows up in the next main issue.
10:36He wanted to only set the bomb off
10:38if he crosses the finish line first
10:41because he wants to kill his enemies either way.
10:44This is the part where it's supposed to establish
10:46a character who's going to defuse his bomb
10:48like Tails who just states the obvious in his car instead
10:52to someone who didn't enforce the rules against Eggman
10:55in the first race.
10:57If Tails got to defuse the bomb
10:59then that would make him look cool.
11:01Of course Don and Pa says he doesn't mind
11:03because it's intriguing
11:04and he's crazy enough to say
11:06it'd make racing look like it can save lives.
11:10Amy gets to lampshade how annoying it is
11:13that he keeps saying the art of racing
11:15but intentionally annoying is still bad writing.
11:18He's using the word art wrong.
11:21It turns out Tails can't escape the car anyway
11:23because of something Eggman rigged his car with
11:26to trap him there.
11:27I sure hope it's explained how he gets out of that car.
11:30Well Shadow carries the car in Child the Hedgehog
11:33so he doesn't.
11:35The story tries to be funny
11:37which would only work for people who want
11:38Ford to death by now.
11:40Sonic ends up looking like a nag
11:42telling Jet and Shadow to stop being competitive
11:45with each other even though it's a race.
11:48I thought he was supposed to be cool.
11:50Jet deliberately misinterprets him saying
11:52stop to be annoying.
11:55That has to be it or this is really stupid.
11:58I like that Sonic smiles about saying
12:01he'll have to beat him in the race.
12:03That's in character.
12:05Tails gets given an item by a dark Chao.
12:08Wait, why would an evil Chao help anyone?
12:11Cream's impossibly stupid enough to ask what they should do.
12:15Who is she?
12:16Tails states the obvious pointlessly
12:19and after more boredom
12:20I get to see Slime get dropped on Eggman
12:23and Wave and Rouge
12:24You All Deserve It
12:25and Whisperu doesn't.
12:27That's just more of her being
12:29the punching bag of the writers.
12:31I didn't notice it
12:32because it always makes sense
12:34in-universe for her to suffer.
12:36Storm tries to get the attention
12:38of someone who's going to be able
12:39to avoid getting hit because of that
12:41and the writer waves my time again
12:44having him say what he's obviously
12:45going to do and why.
12:48Omega uses a shield item
12:50and it took me a few seconds
12:51to try to figure out
12:52what the panel was supposed to be representing
12:54because it looks like there's fire flying around.
12:57Why doesn't it just depict Storm's fist
13:00impacting the shield?
13:03So I get to see him in pain from this
13:05but don't get to read him
13:06yell out in pain about it
13:08which is something Archie did right with Sonic
13:10when he kicked a rock
13:11so that was funny.
13:14Rouge and Wave laugh
13:15which makes sense for Rouge too
13:16because if she thinks it's okay to steal jewels
13:19she would have a sadistic side
13:20where it's okay if it's stealing from rich people
13:23who would actually be able to afford to have jewels.
13:27I like that they both reacted with surprise
13:29because they shared a laugh together.
13:32I mean they are both female jewel thieves
13:34so it's about time we saw them interacting.
13:37It makes more sense for them to be best friends
13:39when they're not competing.
13:42After more padding
13:43Don on Paw explains that the race went off track
13:46but he doesn't explain why.
13:48Is it even gonna matter that they did
13:50or is this more worthless dialogue?
13:53After some more
13:54during which I wonder how Warbot and Cubot
13:57could be strong enough to carry a giant bomb
14:00but also be programmed to hate how heavy it is.
14:03Eggman gets a little karma for this
14:05by being whined and insulted by them.
14:08Something I figured out recently
14:10is that it actually makes sense
14:11that Warbot and Cubot would be programmed
14:13to not be totally agreeable with Eggman
14:15considering that people end up having
14:17bad ideas and delusions
14:19enabled by how agreeable ChatGBT is
14:21and some people go insane from it or worse.
14:25Eggman's supposed to be a genius
14:26so he would have found out about this
14:28and wanted to avoid it
14:29by having a few robots
14:30who can give him constructive criticism
14:32to keep him grounded.
14:35Sonic says it taunts from the games
14:37to Jet pandering to the fans
14:39while risking crashing into Shadow's car
14:41because he's looking away from the road.
14:44While he is supposed to be reckless
14:46it's not that likely to happen
14:49because the car's still going at the same speed.
14:52It does at least do something new
14:54with the reference
14:55because he doesn't get to finish it
14:56at the same speed
14:57because Jet distracts him.
14:59And after the story goes back
15:01to wasting my time
15:03somehow Wave survives
15:05being crushed by a wheel
15:07and keeps talking like it's nothing
15:08even though usually being crushed
15:10is the one thing
15:11Rings can't protect you from.
15:15And the fact that she still looks like this
15:17while talking
15:18implies that she didn't get
15:19uncrushed right away
15:21and then start talking.
15:23But that has to be it
15:24because it'd be physically impossible
15:26for her to say anything here
15:28let alone just feel like snarky
15:30and all that pain.
15:32So that proves that
15:33in the N.E.W. universe
15:35Rings do prevent you
15:36from dying to being crushed.
15:38They heal you from it no problem.
15:40For all we know
15:42how it works is that
15:43if you're still under something
15:44after it happens
15:45the Rings still heal you
15:46after that isn't the case anymore
15:47no matter how long that takes.
15:50In the world where this can happen
15:51why should we take it seriously
15:54what the writer insisted
15:55happen to Starline
15:57without the arc showing it at all?
15:59It's allowed to show this
16:01which makes the lack of impact
16:02in other situations even dumber.
16:05This happens in AOSCH
16:07so it's not even new for Sonic.
16:09It doesn't belong in the franchise
16:11and it's completely out of nowhere
16:13for this comic.
16:14The story wastes my time

16:17with even more boring dialogue

16:21which at one point

16:23why Whisper didn't bring

16:51Maybe she's insecure
16:52because Mimic killed himself
16:54and Whisper didn't get
16:56her friends back
16:57so she feels bad.
