00:00well you often hear me say first you got to get the cold then you get the snow well we have plenty
00:14of cold but so far there really really has not been any big snowstorms i guess the one we had
00:21earlier in the week across parts of the northeast would be no it was certainly a substantial storm
00:28for many all right let me show you where we're going here over the next couple of days here all
00:32right couple weak storms only minor snow events from the midwest into the northeast and even parts
00:39of the mid-atlantic here as we head into early next week now i do believe there's a more chance for a
00:47substantial amount of snow or at least a storm as we get toward the northeast maybe the ohio valley
00:54as we get into the middle part of next week then we're going to be watching this a pattern change
01:00next weekend with a dip in the jet stream going into the western united states and i'll tell you
01:06what the northern rockies you haven't had a lot of snow you're going to get plastered with snow next
01:11weekend all right i just want to put a bow on this uh this is the storm that we've been talking about
01:16most of this week this is going to end up being a minor event in this blue area i yeah i could see a
01:22little snow getting up to philadelphia some flurries but this general area is going to be a coating to
01:27an inch or two if we end up getting with three or four inches of snow i think it's going to be down
01:32in here long i-81 toward the roanoke area perhaps but it's it's a minor event but it could still cause
01:39problems friday morning and i think it's going to snow down um once you get toward richmond i think it's
01:46snow over to sleet these areas right along the north carolina uh virginia state line will be snow
01:53and sleet going over to some rain but some slippery travel here as we go forward all right i want to
01:58show you this this is the pattern that we've been dealing with uh right now across the country and
02:03what you're looking at is this continual west northwest flow you can see it right in here so you
02:10have the northern branch of the jet stream in here this brings the cold air now what i've been waiting
02:15for is this the southern branch of the jet stream right that's the storms and what you know what we've
02:22been waiting for is this is there any way that you can get the storm to come in advance of the cold air
02:31get a storm to form have it come up the coast and then you get some snow now we had that earlier in
02:36a week this next storm is mostly going to be offshore now moving beyond that this pattern is
02:44not going to change in that you're going to continue to see this northwest flow right in the next week
02:50bringing down the cold air the question is are there any big storms on the horizon and i i don't see any
02:57i don't see any as we as we get in the next week look at the pattern you just continue this is this
03:04evening this is friday evening you see this northwest flow look at sunday same story you just
03:10continue to bring down this west northwest flow that brings down the cold air there we get in the
03:15monday in the tuesday in the wednesday that's where things can change a little bit but at least early
03:21next week i don't see anything of significance you do have another cold front coming through here
03:27over the weekend across the upper midwest let me show it to you it's right here see that there's a
03:33little cold front coming through right in here you see this little piece of energy right here this
03:38comes across the uh upper midwest as we get into the weekend and there's going to be a little snow
03:42with that uh by the way the game in green bay huge game between green bay and chicago and green
03:47bad i think temperatures in the teens not much wind and there'll be a little snow in the morning there
03:51with that system but see this comes across the area you see the blue across the lakes we'll track that
03:56system into the northeast over the weekend maybe a little bit of snow in new england won't be much
04:01now there's another system to watch early next week it's right in here you see this this has a
04:07shot of bringing a little more substantial snow but it's mostly to the lakes and into the northeast
04:13monday into tuesday then there's another system right in here wednesday into thursday and this is
04:19where it kind of gets a little interesting because wednesday into thursday you know what's going on
04:23you're getting a deepening of the trough pretty big deep uh dip in the jet stream here as we get in
04:29the wednesday and thursday now right now the way this upper air pattern is configured you could see
04:37a little band of snow coming here across the midwest and northeast wednesday into thursday with that dip in
04:43the jet stream but by the time you get a storm to form it's well offshore and it goes out to sea
04:50you get another shot of cold but there's no significant snow however this is the one to watch
04:58if we're going to get a substantial and widespread snow this would be the opportunity wednesday into
05:05thursday and here's why this dip in the jet stream would just have to be a little farther west you see
05:11how it kind of rounds the bed right here this is where you would get the storm to form right when this
05:17trough goes what i call negative where it's tilted from northwest to southeast this is where the storm
05:24would form it would go out to sea however if this dip in the jet stream here was a little farther west
05:29let's say it was like this then you would get the storm to form near the coast and that would come
05:35northward so this is what it looked like on you see how the storm's offshore on this it's well offshore
05:41what i'm saying is there's an opportunity if this dip in the jet stream's a little farther west
05:46instead of the storm forming here and going out to sea it would be a little closer to the coast and come
05:52northward and if that's the case then you can get some significant snows into the appalachians
05:57and in new england now nothing is showing that yet this dip in the jet stream is it's just a little
06:04too far east you see that for this to occur this would have to be back here and then there's room for
06:13this come up the coast that's something to watch for i don't see anything yet but what i'm getting at
06:19is i don't see any substantial snows for anybody through at least wednesday and then watch this
06:25area late next week and by the way big pattern change next weekend take a look at this big dip in
06:31the jet stream coming into the west look at that what is that going to do produce a lot of snow
06:36look at the snowfall from now until monday or next week this is the accumulating snow look at all of the
06:44snow in the northern rockies by the way you can also see where the snow is going to be from the
06:49upper midwest into new england not so much in the mid-atlantic except for friday change is coming
06:56and that's defeat
06:57you
