00:00and we are tracking three storms and a ton of cold air this week as the pattern remains locked
00:12in for the north central and northeast with a lot of cold no big storms though but three clippers
00:18it's the second clipper that'll be friday into saturday that has the potential of bringing snow
00:24into cities like chicago in the cities like uh washington dc and perhaps philadelphia new york
00:32city with a little snow not a huge storm but it could be an impactful one all right first of all
00:37let me take you out to this this hasn't changed much take a look at the snow cover across the
00:41country we're at about 38 percent of snow cover in the u.s this is the most snow that we've seen
00:48in the uh cover this early for december 8th since about 2018 when we're about 42 percent
00:56so pretty good snowpack much of that being across the north central united states and as i mentioned
01:01this air mass is just locked in for the next uh 10 days in fact right through the 15th at least
01:09into the 15th we're going to have bouts of cold from the upper midwest of dakotas and into the
01:15northeast at times the cold will get into the mid-atlantic states but in the area that has the
01:20snowpack that's what we're looking at as far as the pattern is concerned i i want to quickly show you
01:27how it's going to change uh moving forward so here's the pattern i showed you big dips in the jet
01:33stream bringing down the cold air but we've had this upper low that's been near hudson bay that is
01:39going to be leaving this week all right and that's what's been putting the cold down you see how it's
01:44leaving right here as we get after the 12th and 13th now there's one more little lobe here of cold
01:51air that'll be coming in for the upcoming weekend that'll take us through the 15th but then after
01:56that look at the pattern you get more of let's say by the 16th not that it's going to be super warm
02:02but it's it's gonna it's not going to be as cold and you could see why the you have more of what i call
02:09a zonal flow most of the cold air will be locked up here this is tuesday and the 16th across uh
02:15central and northern canada at times some of it will come down you have a lobe coming here around
02:20the 17th and 18th but all in all you look at the weather pattern as we get toward the week of
02:26christmas it's more of a zonal flow which means the cold air is going to relax all right so that's
02:31the idea it doesn't mean there won't be any snow in the northern tier of the u.s but it's not going to
02:35be as cold as what we're going to see here over the next 10 days now we're tracking three little
02:42clippers uh moving forward here as we go through this week all right want to show you the number
02:48one this is the first one you see this this is going to provide snow and i have a snow map for you
02:53here from northern minnesota into uh northern new england that's clipper number one and you could see
03:01it here comes this is tuesday night here it comes tuesday night wednesday and then the thursday
03:07right in here so that brings the snow near minneapolis duluth green bay you're going to get
03:13in it saginaw and up in the northern new england all right snow map with that let me show that to you
03:20here uh really quickly uh again mostly across northern locales let me take this down there it is it's right
03:28in here all right that's where you're looking at a good band of three to six inches of snow green bay
03:33once you get toward duluth toward traverse city you're going to get six to twelve probably eight
03:38nine inches of snow here this stays north of the throughway for the most part here this will be
03:44tuesday night and wednesday up into northern new england but again it's northern minnesota in the
03:49wisconsin and michigan you're going to get the lion's share of the snow with that okay that is our
03:55first clipper the second one is the one i think to watch for a little farther to the south let me
04:02show you the upper air pattern so here's the first energy there it is all right here comes the second
04:07clipper right here this is thursday morning this piece of energy this is out in the pacific now i
04:13believe it's just south of the aleutian islands so this is going to come south now the key with this is
04:17how far south does it get and does it weaken as it approaches the appellations this is the european
04:23model and you can see the energy digging south there it is this is friday morning right in here
04:29so this goes right across des moines this looks like a pretty impactful storm to me from des moines
04:34towards chicago probably a three to six inch snow band with that watch it move east and then it kind
04:41of weakens right in the year once it gets to the appellations so the question is is how much snow is
04:47going to be going east of the mountains toward washington dc towards philadelphia toward new york city
04:51that would be friday afternoon friday night not sure at this point i don't think it's going to be
04:57a ton dc philadelphia new york maybe a coating to an inch we'll see if this could dig a little more
05:03right if this energy can come down let's say instead of going this way or coming down here
05:10then we can have something right now none of the modeling shows that and you can even see that on the
05:15surface map let's show that storm on the surface map i'm showing you the 500 mill bar so here it comes
05:20there it goes thursday afternoon friday morning here comes the snow in chicago you can see there's
05:27a little bit of enhancement here from peoria indianapolis toward columbus right and then it
05:34kind of diminishes once it gets out of the mountains maybe washington dc another inch or two
05:39maybe a coating to winch in philadelphia supposedly this day south of new york city so this is the one
05:45to watch i think this week for bringing snow a little farther to the south so let's keep an eye
05:50on that now a lot of the other modeling doesn't have this system this strong so instead of seeing
05:55a three to six inch band somewhere across illinois indiana it is a general coating to an inch across
06:01highway illinois indiana ohio and then into the mid-atlantic states one thing you will see behind this
06:07system though as you get into the weekend another shot of cold air coming in i mean this is another
06:12shot of cold air from minneapolis chicago into the northeast into new york city as we get toward the
06:20weekend i mentioned the third system you can see that as well that's going to come right in here
06:25as we get into the uh in the saturday and sunday you see up in here this looks like this is going to
06:32stay once again across the northern tier of the u.s from minnesota wisconsin into new england but guess
06:37what comes behind that another shot of cold air but that looks like the last shot
06:44coming in to the upper midwest the lakes and the northeast that'll be over the weekend then it
06:50should moderate three storms and a ton of cold air not big storms but let's watch that late week storm
06:57stay with us
