24 November - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. The cold wind is back this Monday.
00:05The bigger picture, the view from space, shows quite a lot of cloud out in the Atlantic
00:09and a swirl of cloud sitting over the UK currently. But there is this slice of something a bit clearer
00:16and that should bring many of us some sunny spells during tomorrow thanks to a little ridge of high pressure.
00:23But it's not with us yet. We've still got this low pressure providing the swirl of cloud,
00:27providing some pretty heavy showers this morning over parts of southern England.
00:31That's clearing away, but the showers are still feeding in on the northeasterly wind into northeastern areas.
00:37So northeast England, eastern Scotland, particularly eastern Scotland, staying really wet this afternoon.
00:42Angus Aberdeen seeing frequent showers. Also, we'll see plenty of showers coming into Edinburgh.
00:47The showers a bit more scattered over northeast England, but still there will be plenty of them
00:51feeding down at times towards Norfolk and Lincolnshire, maybe Cambridgeshire.
00:54But further west, many places becoming dry. Good spells of sunshine this afternoon over western Scotland,
01:01northern Ireland, Wales and southwest to England. There is a brisk and cold wind blowing.
01:06We might, with a bit of sunshine, get to 10, maybe 11 Celsius through the Channel Isles.
01:10But elsewhere, we're looking at 8s and 9s. And it feels colder on these north sea coasts with that brisk wind
01:15and where we've got these fairly frequent showers that continue to feed in well into the evening.
01:20Some for East Anglia, perhaps into the southeast of England too.
01:23And then we see these showers setting up in the northerly wind, coming down into parts of Northern Ireland
01:29and westernmost parts of Wales and also Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
01:34The showers in northeast Scotland should ease.
01:36And in western Scotland and northwest England, where we've got the clear skies and the light winds,
01:40will allow temperatures to tumble away.
01:42That's where we're most likely to see a frost.
01:44Certainly temperatures dipping below freezing in rural spots.
01:47Elsewhere, well, many places hovering just a few degrees above zero.
01:52But it'll still feel pretty fresh Tuesday morning.
01:54The winds won't be as strong tomorrow, however.
01:57There'll be some showers of rain affecting Pembrokeshire and Cornwall.
02:01And still some showers through the day coming into parts of northeast England.
02:05But not as many as today, intending to ease off by the afternoon.
02:09One or two getting into Norfolk, but a much drier day for eastern Scotland and for a good part of the country.
02:14It's a fine late autumn day with plenty of sunny spells.
02:18It is going to be still on the cold side, however.
02:21The air is coming down from the north.
02:22But although temperatures actually lower tomorrow, because there'll be more sunshine,
02:26if you get out through the middle of the day, the winds are lighter.
02:30So it probably won't feel as chilly as today.
02:33So quite a bit of sunshine around on Tuesday.
02:35And that will then lead to a pretty clear night.
02:38So the frost more widespread Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
02:42That cloud I showed you right at the start out in the Atlantic that is starting to head in there into western areas during Wednesday.
02:50The weather's going to be chopping and changing a fair bit through this week.
02:53If you want the full details on that, Annie will have the week ahead video available on our YouTube channel Monday afternoon.
