00:00Welcome to your latest update from the Met Office. Plenty going on with the weather in the longer term, but
00:05certainly for most places, Thursday's a good looking day for the end of September.
00:10The satellite image is pretty interesting though. Behind me, look at this spiralling area of low pressure that's been developing
00:15through the course of Wednesday night and into Thursday.
00:18An absolute beauty of an area of low pressure, mostly taking its wet and windy weather up towards Iceland.
00:23But its trailing weather front, this cold front, is approaching the north and the west, pushing away this area of
00:30high pressure.
00:31But that is just about hanging on for most of us through the day today. Certainly across England and Wales,
00:35it'll bring a lot of fine weather.
00:37But those weather fronts are bringing cloud and some rain to Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:42The radar's a bit overdoing it there with the rain that we're seeing, but we are going to see a
00:47bit more getting into the west coast of Scotland through this afternoon.
00:49And western parts of Northern Ireland's turning a bit damp and drizzly, but I suspect the east of Northern Ireland,
00:56as much as southern and eastern Scotland, will stay dry into this evening.
01:00The wind's also picking up in the west, around western coast in particular, close to that rain band.
01:05But for most of England and Wales, the wind's, well, may increase a little bit, but just a gentle breeze.
01:09A mixture of cloud and hazy sunshine and temperatures generally a touch above the average for the time of year.
01:15Probably somewhere across the southeast, getting up to 23 degrees Celsius as an absolute high.
01:21Cooler in the north and west and turning cooler because that line of rain, as we saw earlier, is a
01:26cold front.
01:26It'll pep up a bit through this evening, so we'll see that rain moving through the central belt.
01:30We will see things turning a bit damp in Bangor in Northern Ireland and in Belfast.
01:35So some rain here overnight, remaining quite blustery in the northwest as well.
01:40The breeze picking up a little bit in western areas, but light winds in the southwest and clear skies here
01:45can allow it to turn quite misty and murky.
01:47A few fog patches likely in parts of the south, particularly the southwest, as we go through the night.
01:53So just something to be aware of for Friday mornings, Russia.
01:56It'll be a milder night compared to last night's temperatures, generally holding up in double figures,
02:02but still down to single figures in parts of east Anglia and maybe the southeast in rural areas.
02:07But generally a dry and a bright start here. Mist and fog could take a while to clear in the
02:11southwest.
02:11A damp start in southern Scotland. The rain should clear here, but as this rain band pushes southwards,
02:17it kind of slows right down and sort of fizzles out.
02:20So just bringing outbreaks of rain and drizzle over parts of northern England, north and then mid Wales through the
02:26course of the day.
02:27But it'll be a slow old process. This zone looking fairly cloudy for most of Friday.
02:32Behind it, brighter skies, some sunshine, but a fair few showers zipping into northern Ireland and western Scotland.
02:38So showers on and off here, blown through on that fairly brisk breeze.
02:42Elsewhere again, the wind's fairly light.
02:44We should hang on to some sunny skies down across the south and east, and we'll also hang on to
02:48the warmer air here.
02:49Touch warmer than today.
02:51We could easily get to 25, 26, 27 is possible.
02:54But it will be turning cooler behind this band of rain because it is a cold front.
02:59And with more cloud and rain over these central areas, well, a very different day compared to Thursday.
03:05That dampened, drizzly weather spreading across the east Midlands, Lincolnshire towards East Anglia during Friday evening.
03:11Further showers, getting some pretty heavy ones coming into the northwest by this stage.
03:15Even some hail and thunder is just about possible.
03:18The weather remaining pretty mixed then and quite interesting as we head into the weekend and beyond.
