17 November - National morning forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Sleet and hill snow will be more of a feature for more northern areas through today
00:05with warnings in force until the latter part of this week. That's because we've got cold arctic
00:11winds moving into the UK from the north and a low pressure system has brought this weather front
00:16into the far north and west. Now that will bring the focus for rain, sleet and hill snow through
00:22today. Snow is most likely expected across parts of Scotland, northern areas of Scotland in
00:27particular but we will see it across parts of the Pennines down towards the Peak District later on
00:31through Tuesday as well. But accumulations are most likely across the hills of Scotland above around
00:37400 metres but that does bring a risk of ice as well and wherever you are it's going to be a much
00:42cloudier and probably damper day. We've got brisk northerly winds that will bring a very chilly feel
00:48particularly to more north and western areas. In the south and west we could see highs of around 11
00:53degrees but it's going to be still a much cooler day than yesterday with very little in the way
00:58of sunshine. Now the cloud and rain will continue throughout this evening bringing more in the way
01:04of hill snow. There's a greater risk of ice once again tonight. That will push into parts of Wales
01:09into the Peak District we could see some snow slushy accumulations over the highest ground. We'll turn a
01:14little bit clearer across the north and west after a pretty wet start here but there's still a risk of ice
01:20and further snow showers moving into parts of Northern Ireland the far north of Scotland in
01:25particular where we'll start to see accumulations really starting to build up. With quite a lot of
01:29cloud around frost will be that much more limited overnight tonight but still temperatures falling
01:34very close to freezing. There is a bit more of a breeze around which will keep us a little bit more
01:39frost free but I think some rural areas still seeing quite a harsh frost to start the day in parts
01:44of Scotland. Now we'll see more of a direct northerly wind that will just restrict showers to north
01:49eastern coasts. Southeastern areas of England we'll also see some showers but it's across the northeast
01:54of England where we'll see some snow as well as the far north of Scotland and we'll start to see
01:59accumulations building up on the high ground perhaps the north York more seeing a few centimetres
02:03through Wednesday. Further west more on the way of sunshine across parts of Wales, southwest England.
02:08Western areas of Scotland as well seeing some drier and brighter weather so there will be some crisp
02:14wintry sunshine for some areas on Wednesday but further snow and ice to contend with. As I said
02:20there are warnings in force throughout this week so please take a look at our app and website for
02:25more details and stay tuned by subscribing to our YouTube channel. Bye-bye.
