15 December - National weather forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth.
Transcript
00:00Good evening, a markedly drier day to come on Tuesday, but before then we still have
00:06a number of warnings in force for rain, particularly across South Wales. We've talked about amber
00:10warning, there's still a risk of travel disruption this evening as well as further flooding.
00:14But the rain will ever so slowly start to move eastwards overnight tonight, pushing
00:18into eastern areas of England by tomorrow morning. And behind it, it will become markedly
00:23clearer. Sky's really clearing up overnight. We could see a touch of frost as well across
00:29parts of Northern Ireland, but more widely, we'll just be in those lower single figures
00:33to start the day on Tuesday. But more importantly, it's going to be a drier and brighter start
00:37to the day on Tuesday. Plenty of sunshine for many northern and western areas. In the east
00:42though, it will remain relatively overcast through much of the day and drizzle will come
00:46and go, but we're not expecting anything particularly heavy in these areas. So a dry and sunny day
00:51for many areas across England and Wales, as well as much of Northern Ireland and eastern
00:57areas of Scotland. Western Scotland's seeing a few showers through the day. There's a fairly
01:00brisk breeze as well, so there could be quite pokey showers. There will be some sunshine in
01:05between them though. And we're into fresher air. Temperatures much closer to where they
01:09should be for this time of year. Just eight or nine degrees for many towns and cities. Closer
01:14to six or seven further north. And into Tuesday evening, it remains relatively settled. The settled
01:20spell continues for now. You can see that rain starting to move in from the west though. So things will
01:25change across the north and west by the time we get to Wednesday morning. But ahead of
01:29that, potentially quite significant fog developing quite widely. And it is going to be a more widely
01:35colder night. We are expecting a bit more of a widespread rural frost at least. Many towns
01:40and cities hovering close to zero. But compared to tonight, it's going to be a much colder night.
01:45This is the 24 hour difference in temperatures. You can see particularly across central areas of
01:49England. There's a good nine degree difference in the two nights. So you will certainly notice the
01:55difference. But across northwestern areas, after the temperatures dip quite early on, it will become
01:59warmer as the night moves in. That's because this rain is spreading in. We'll bring some heavy spells
02:04of rain. It moves through slightly more quickly than the rain we've seen recently, but still a risk
02:08of some heavy downpours and some flooding, particularly across south Wales and southwestern England.
02:13That's where there is a rain warning in force. The winds will start to pick up as well. It's a
02:17southwesterly wind. So it introduces milder air once again, but further rain. So we are expecting
02:23further travel disruption as well as some flooding, particularly, as I said, across those
02:27southwestern areas. So it is staying relatively unsettled for much of this week, but more sunshine
02:33to come on Tuesday. You can find out all the details for your full week ahead forecast with Aidan on
02:38YouTube. I'll see you again soon. Bye bye.
