00:00Hello, good deal of wintry sunshine on the cards for many of us this afternoon, but as the week goes on, it will turn colder and even more wintry with some snow and sleet around.
00:11We've got a cold arctic air across the UK through this week. You can see the deep blues on the map showing quite how cold that air is.
00:19And throughout tonight and Tuesday morning, we'll see an area of low pressure bring the focus for a little more in the way of sleet and snow, particularly to more northern areas.
00:28But for the time being, on Monday afternoon, any snow showers will be restricted to the far north of Scotland, particularly over higher ground.
00:36There will be a few showers across the far northeast coast of England, as well as parts of southern Scotland as well.
00:41But elsewhere, a dry and sunny afternoon to come. And in the sunshine, it won't feel too bad, definitely colder than it has been lately, seven or eight, possibly nine degrees across the far south.
00:52So away from the wind, feeling fairly pleasant. But across the east coast, where you've got that North Sea, the wind coming off the North Sea, it's going to feel quite chilly and very wintry indeed.
01:02And through this evening, when we see those snow showers across the far north of Scotland, there is a risk of some icy stretches.
01:08And that risk of more wintry hazards will increase through tonight and become a little bit more widespread through Tuesday morning,
01:15as this frontal system, that area of low pressure I pointed out earlier, starts to move in from the northwest.
01:20So that will bring a blanket of cloud across parts of Northern Ireland, more in the way of rain pushing into parts of western Scotland, parts of northwest England as well.
01:28There's a little bit of uncertainty with quite how widespread that area of rain will be.
01:33But further east, where we do see clearer skies, temperatures will fall away quite quickly through this evening and overnight.
01:39We're expecting quite widely a rural frost, many towns and cities staying above zero, particularly across southern areas.
01:46But it's likely to be quite a chilly and cold start on Tuesday morning, more in the way of cloud than this morning.
01:52And as I said, a bit more rain and sleet around.
01:55We could see some snow falling across the higher ground, across more central areas of Scotland, through the Pennines as well, across the highest mountains here.
02:03Some sleet could be seen at lower levels as well, but we're not expecting any widespread accumulations to lower levels for any southern areas or northern areas of England.
02:12It's mainly across parts of north in Scotland we're expecting any snow to start accumulating through Tuesday.
02:18But there's going to be quite a brisk wind as well, that northerly wind still bringing a very chilly feel.
02:23I think so if you're exposed across coastal areas to this wind, it's going to feel especially cold.
02:28Further south, with more cloud around temperatures, yes, 11 or 10 degrees, a little bit milder than today.
02:34But I think there's going to be more in the way of cloud around, a risk of rain wherever you are through Tuesday.
02:40As we head through Tuesday evening, that risk of snow continues for more north and western areas.
02:46And it's going to be another chilly night.
02:48Clearer skies across the south and east will allow a frost to develop once again.
02:52But it's further north and west where we see snow starting to accumulate.
02:57So keep an eye on the warnings through this week.
