20 November - National morning forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hello, good morning.
00:01It's another cold start out there, widespread frost and some icy patches to watch out for.
00:08Those icy patches particularly prone where we've seen showers over the last couple of
00:11days, northern Scotland, eastern England, parts of Northern Ireland, West Wales and
00:15the far south west.
00:16But the showers that we have seen, they're tending to ease away, still the potential
00:20for one or two in the far east of England, one or two for West Wales and Cornwall.
00:25Otherwise it's simply a sunny, crisp, late autumn, early winter kind of day.
00:31Plenty of sunshine out there, particularly for southern Scotland, eastern Scotland for
00:35a time, as well as England and Wales.
00:38And with light winds, feeling pleasant enough in that sunshine, even if temperatures are
00:41still below average.
00:42We're talking about five, six Celsius widely.
00:44Some places just three or four or even lower than that where we've got snow cover.
00:48But for Scotland and Northern Ireland, a different story is we go into the late afternoon, early
00:51evening period.
00:52A cloud brings outbreaks of rain for the north and west of Scotland, and then into the evening
00:56for Northern Ireland, that rain turning heavier and more persistent as it bumps into the cold
01:00air.
01:01A few flakes of snow over the higher parts of Scotland and northern England for a time.
01:05But this rain is coming from the Atlantic.
01:07It contains milder air.
01:09And as a result, temperatures are going to be rising through the night fairly widely, with
01:13a frost by dawn confined to the far south east.
01:17Frost free elsewhere, but still quite a chilly start to the day.
01:20Because when you factor in the rain and an increased breeze, it's not going to feel very pleasant.
01:24The main band of rain moving into the Midlands, trailing across parts of the south of England
01:30for a time.
01:31And then clearing across many other parts of the country as we go into the afternoon.
01:35Replaced by sunny spells, but also showers.
01:37The showers most frequent across western Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland, Northwest England
01:41and North Wales.
01:42Turning cloudier once again, with another batch of rain moving in towards the end of
01:47the afternoon in the south west.
01:4912 Celsius towards the south west.
01:51That's the mildest place, but for many it's 7, 8, 9 Celsius.
01:56So temperatures back towards average, but not as mild as we saw quite frequently during the
02:01first half of November.
02:02We're not back to that level of mild, but it's certainly, what I'd say, less cold compared
02:07with the last few days.
