03 January - National Morning Forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Good morning. A sharp frost out there wherever you are and a further risk of snow to come
00:05through the rest of this weekend. It's particularly across northern areas of Scotland where we've
00:10seen the most snowfall and we will continue to through this weekend. That's where we've
00:14got an amber warning in force for the next few hours. Across eastern areas as well we
00:19could see some snow moving inland from the North Sea. Northern Ireland, parts of Wales,
00:24south western England also seeing some sleety showers too. So a risk of ice and snow accumulations
00:30across many coastal areas but particularly across the north where the winds will push those showers
00:35further inland throughout Saturday. Inland areas though another very dry and fine day. Plenty of
00:42sunshine out there albeit it will be a very chilly day once again. Temperatures one or two degrees at
00:47best in many northern areas. A little bit milder than that when you're closer to the coast as the
00:53sea is a bit warmer this time of year than the land. Through this evening the showers will continue
00:58for many coastal areas particularly across northern areas of Scotland. The winds are turning a little
01:03bit lighter so they won't push as far inland and actually across many eastern areas of England,
01:08southeastern Scotland it will become drier after potentially a bit of an overcast snowy day
01:13across these eastern areas. So clearer skies developing more widely. Another very cold night
01:19to come tonight. A sharp frost. Temperatures widely down into those minus single figures. Could be down
01:25as low as around minus six or seven across parts of Scotland where we've got any lying snow. With the
01:31strength of the winds we should stay clear of the coldest temperatures but it's going to be
01:35a very chilly feel to start the day on Sunday. There will be lots of sunshine around though on Sunday
01:41particularly across the bulk of England as well as parts of southern Scotland. Across northern Ireland,
01:47parts of Wales, northwestern Scotland will continue to see quite frequent showers moving in. These are
01:52a mix of rain, sleet and snow. Snow most likely over the highest ground where we could start to see
01:58some accumulations but it will stay cold and any lying snow is unlikely to melt throughout this weekend.
02:06Across eastern areas a fairly dry day though. Temperatures still struggling at just one or two
02:11degrees so that chilly feel does remain but the winds will be a little bit lighter across eastern areas
02:15on Sunday compared to Saturday. So plenty of cold weather to come throughout this weekend. A continued
02:22risk of snow does remain cold into Monday as well. We continue to see this northerly wind bringing
02:28arctic air. Then by Tuesday some Atlantic weather could bump into that cold weather to give a renewed
02:34risk of snow to more southern areas. So please stay tuned to the forecast through this weekend
