13 December - National morning forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth.
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Some big contrasts in our weather this weekend, mainly dry across southeastern
00:06areas. The north and western areas will see some quite persistent rain moving in from
00:11lunchtime today. Before then though, plenty of sunshine to make the most of, a bit of
00:15mist and fog around and it's a little bit chilly out there this morning. But there will
00:19be a lot of dry weather across many southern and eastern areas of England in particular
00:23throughout this weekend. You can see though across the north and west there's a big change
00:27on the way from lunchtime onwards and warnings in force for much of western Scotland and
00:31later on for parts of Northern Ireland, northwestern England and north Wales. Through this weekend
00:36we will see rainfall totals starting to build up and a risk of disruption. Southwesterly
00:41winds bring in fairly mild air with that cloud and rain. Further south and east though despite
00:46the sunshine temperatures probably still in just about high single figures but it'll feel
00:50fairly pleasant. The winds are a bit lighter across more south and eastern areas. But it's
00:54across the northwest where our attention turns to from Saturday evening. The rain is likely
00:59to persist all the way through until Monday. And as it sinks southwards we will see pulses
01:03of rain. We'll get wiggles and waves on this weather front bringing further pulses of rain
01:07through this weekend. And that does mean that we'll see rainfall totals starting to build
01:12up. So we could see in excess of 100 millimetres across parts of western Scotland but it's parts
01:17of Cumbria where we are turning our focus to on Sunday. With lots of cloud around though
01:22for many north and western areas temperatures well above average for the time of year to
01:26start the day on Sunday. A little bit chillier further south and east that's because it's
01:30fairly dry and clear through much of Saturday night. The rain will persist throughout the
01:36weekend and we get an amber warning in force for parts of Cumbria in particular through Sunday
01:41all the way through until Monday. These warnings are being continually reviewed so please stay
01:45tuned to the forecast on our app and website. Across many southern areas there will be a bit
01:51cloudier on Sunday but still a lot of dry weather and the breeze does actually start to pick up.
01:56We're slightly into that mild air across the south and east so that does mean temperatures will be a
02:00little bit higher on Sunday but as I said a bit more of a breeze. But it's really across the north and
02:05west where we need to focus as we're likely to see some travel disruption as well as some flooding
02:10throughout the weekend. Let's take a closer look at the rainfall totals how they tot up through
02:14Sunday. There's already some rain on Saturday. Sunday the rain starts to become more focused
02:19southwestern Scotland and it's Cumbria. That's where we've got that amber warning in force.
02:23We could see an excess of 200 millimetres by the end of Monday. That's enough to bring
02:28some pretty disruptive flooding to rivers as well as homes as well as major disruption to these areas.
02:35We do also have yellow warnings in force for parts of North Wales, Northern Ireland,
02:40Western Scotland. So many north and western areas seeing some potentially quite disruptive
02:44rain this weekend. But you'll notice across many south and eastern areas not very much rain at all.
02:50So a big difference across the northwest to the southeast this weekend. So please stay tuned to
02:56the forecast. You may need to adapt your plans if you are planning on heading north and west.
