00:00Things must be nice at the UCI Camp in Coover. No stress on the final day. No pressure.
00:07They each got psyched up in the best way that they know how. Music works too.
00:18On the menu for the final day, a leg burner, three sprints and three endurance races.
00:24Coach James Hay had been looking for racing contenders, unknowing to the light-hearted smiling faces in his rare view.
00:31After all, they were near the end of what had been an enduring two-week ride.
00:36Well, after two weeks of intense training, it's time now for the athletes to show what they've been learning.
00:41It's a lottery system to pick your spots in the Chiron, simulated as if real.
00:47After selecting their numbers, it was time to get into their respective positions.
00:52In the qualifying rounds, Jaden Neves was first to cross the line.
00:56He made a solid impression winning the Chiron event as well as the elimination race,
01:01the 1,000km race and the scratch race, a total of four on the final day.
01:07It was closer in the final though, but Neves still pulled it off.
01:11He came back to finish off his opponents over 26 laps of pain and torture.
01:19The sound of the final lap.
01:26Low stopping the eventual winner.
01:29Sindel Samaru also made an impression as he won the flying 200 and match sprint
01:35and has been regarded as a strong contender in the under-23 division.
01:39As for the girls, Phoebe Sandy proved to be the strongest in the sprint and Chiron,
01:44while Ariel Graves from Barbados did well in the elimination race.
01:48He has taken note of their performances and that of the others.
01:53They will leave the camp having forged new friendships and a new appetite for competition.
01:58They have the scars of training and now possess the belief that they are now ready for anything.
02:05Chatting to the riders, I asked them what they wanted for the camp.
02:09That's one of the first things we do and they aligned with me.
02:12They do want the fun, the events, the racing at the end.
02:14It was a little bit of a mixed bag.
02:16We did three sprint and three endurance rides and everyone wanted to take part in everything.
02:21And I mentioned Jaden again.
02:23He won the Chiron.
02:24So, I mean, potentially there's a career in sprinting if endurance doesn't work out.
02:28But, yeah, jokes aside, it's been good.
02:32A few of the riders are tired and I think they're looking forward to a day off.
02:37Up next, the local cyclists will compete at the trials in January in preparation for the Elite Pan Am Championships in February.
02:45He is expected to be back in January as he intends to work with a select group of athletes moving forward.
