Trinidad and Tobago Cyclist Teniel Campbell is on a mission to create history. She is hoping to become the new World Record holder in the Individual Pursuit when she competes at the National Cycling Track Championships which runs from the 20th to the 23rd of this month. It's expected to be one of the cyclist greatest achievements if she accomplishes it and her Manager believes it is possible with timely support.
Transcript
00:00At present, the three-kilometer individual pursuit world record is held by American Chloe
00:05Dygert with a time of 3 minutes, 15.663 seconds.
00:10The individual pursuit is a track cycling event where two cyclists begin the race from
00:14a stationary position on opposite sides of the track.
00:17They ride out on the pursuit line at the bottom of the track to find the fastest lane, with
00:22each rider trying to catch the other.
00:25Cyclist Tenille Campbell, known for her endurance, believes she can accomplish a new world record
00:30at the National Track Cycling Championships set for the 20th to the 23rd of this month.
00:36PSL club president Desmond Roberts says he did not expect her to chase that record.
00:42I was surprised when she called me and told me about it, that is what you like to achieve.
00:48I said, okay, leave it with me, I'll start putting things in place.
00:53Your job is to focus on achieving your goals, to make sure you go after that world record
01:00and hopefully you break the world record, which is a good milestone because she would
01:05love to do it on her own.
01:07So what is required for her to achieve the world record?
01:10A lot of things have to be put in place.
01:13One financially, she will have to get some financial support for FAA who is paying to
01:19train her and return, special type uniforms that she will have to get, but she will have
01:26to do some wind tunnel tests with those uniforms, closing down the gate at the cycling centre
01:32so there is no draft onto the track while she is doing that individual pursuit.
01:39At present, Campbell is in Spain working on her speed and is hoping to leave on the 12th
01:44for the competition.
01:45She is requesting financial support totalling $50,000 to make it happen before the competition.
01:52After missing out on the 2024 Olympics, the hunger is there for Campbell to make the mark.
01:58Her coach says she has the endurance to do it and she will be zoned in to the point that
02:03she has requested limited attention in training to concentrate for the tournament.
02:07I would like her to be focused on her training to go after what she wants to achieve and
02:14don't be interrupted during that time of her training because she is very concerned
02:20about that.
02:21So that is something that allows the public to give her space to do her workout.
02:28I may request that when she is doing her training that there is not much people in the cycling
02:33centre to create any distraction because this is something that we want to achieve.
02:41At present, Campbell is the national record holder in the women's individual pursuit with
02:45a time of 3 minutes 55.449 seconds set back in 2017.
02:51It's just over 40 seconds from the world record.
02:55She has improved since then, even capturing silver at the Elite Pan American Track Cycling
03:00Championships in 2022 and is requesting a massive turnout to cheer her on towards getting
03:06the record during the tournament.
03:08She will be aiming to qualify for the Pan American competition and the national championships
03:13as well but first setting the world record is the premium goal for TNT's A-class Tour
03:18de France cyclist.
