00:00Some of the top cyclists in the region will be in Trinidad and Tobago for the Easter International Cycling Grand
00:05Prix.
00:06The event marks the start of the Track Cup Series before it heads across the region.
00:10Here's the rundown for Friday, April 3rd from the president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Federation, Rowena Williams.
00:17On Friday, the 3rd, we're going to have the first kickoff event, which will be at Skinner Park, as you
00:22know.
00:22And they're going to have two major UCI events on that day, which will be the Cairn event, which we
00:31know about for the sprinters, and the Scratch Race, which will be for the Endurance Cyclists.
00:36So those are the two major UCI events that are going to be together with all the other events for
00:41the youth developers and the other categories.
00:45And then we move to Coover.
00:47She's hoping to have an eight-member team for the tournament.
00:50Williams indicated that the heavy feature of international cycling meets prevents the top guys from participating in the Easter Grand
00:58Prix.
00:59But she says it's a benefit to the upcoming cyclists still trying to establish it themselves.
01:04Because cycling has evolved so much into so many competitions throughout the year,
01:11that now it clashes with a lot of the high-end international events, especially like the World Cups and stuff,
01:17which our key athletes do have to attend.
01:21So we have to change the format in which we do it.
01:24We have to look at how we're doing it or marketing it.
01:28And that's why we concentrate more on our less elite athletes, or to say our junior athletes,
01:36or our athletes that are now coming up and getting ready.
01:38Our focus will be always on giving them the opportunity.
01:41It's a big deal for fans to show up as well.
01:45We have launched this Get In A Section campaign that we're looking forward to continuing to run over the next
01:55few days.
01:56And it's all about getting on a bike.
01:59And it's all about understanding that cycling is not just on the track.
02:03It's also on the road.
02:04It's also on the trails.
02:06And in the end, it's about keeping the cycling tradition alive.
02:10For me, I'm very proud that, you know, the team, the executive team, we worked hard at building the brand,
02:17building the, I want to say, the trust from the sponsors, from the entire fraternity,
02:26and from the supporters, that the brand is there to live.
02:30I always, I grew up knowing that the Grand Prix always existed and was always part of what Easter was
02:40about
02:40and what people look forward to.
02:42And it was a tradition that I don't think should die.
02:46The action on Friday, April 3rd, starts at 5 p.m. at Skinner Park.
02:50And it's the same starting time for the races at the Velodrome in Coover on the 4th and 5th of
02:56April.
