The 2026 Motorsport Calender has already begun, and this weekend sees the first championship Drag Racing event for the year, at the Frankie Boodram International Raceway in Wallerfield. We caught up with TTASA President Ashton Eligon who previewed the exciting weekend.

00:00The home of motorsport in TNT will hear the roar of engines this weekend
00:05as the first championship drags for 2026 drives off.
00:10President of the Trinidad and Tobago Automobile Sport Association, Ashton Elegon,
00:15says they already have a packed grid for this weekend.
00:18Starting from Friday through to Sunday is the first championship series for the drag racing.
00:25It's going to be held and hosted by Titassa.
00:28So everybody's looking forward to that.
00:31We already have so far confirmed 50 drivers.
00:35So we're looking forward to, you know, persons who did all their personal best last year
00:39really come in to see what 2026, the track is already being prepped and ready and waiting.
00:45And who can spectators expect to be ready for track days?
00:48The big names, of course, the becessors.
00:51Both Sheldon and Andy Becessor with the rails.
00:55We'll also have the guys in the open class.
00:57That is the main class, really.
00:59So we'll have the return of the boost factory, Wazir Khan.
01:03He's been coming out with the V8-powered S14.
01:07We'll also have the fish van, Curvin Ribeiro, Navin D&D.
01:11So those are the big names.
01:12But we have classes straight on to the 13 seconds classes that, you know, it's always, you know, it's packed from 13 straight on to the open class.
01:22So we're really looking forward to a good weekend activity, first time for the year, and for persons to come and do the very best and even better what they did in 2025.
01:32Cover charge for Saturday is $60 TT dollars, while the enthralling Sunday action is priced at $180 with children under 12 free.
01:40Elegon is urging enthusiasts who never attended a drag racing event to come and witness a safe, fun and family atmosphere.
01:47The drag racing is, as we always compare it, is the T20 at Cricket.
01:53The gates are going to be open from 10 a.m.
01:54Racing is going to start from 10 straight on until we lose light, somewhere around 6 p.m.
01:59So it's action.
02:01No intermission, nothing.
02:03Continuous side-by-side racing from open class straight to the, you know, the Sheldonby sisters of all of you.
02:10So, let's go.
