00:00hey guys welcome back to the process once again this is your host and the gamer
00:04and in today's video we're going to be doing a another movie review right today i'm going to be
00:12talking about uncut germs starring adam sandler directed by josh and bernie sadfi
00:19the movie is basically about shadow playing this guy called howard he's a jewish american jewel um
00:30investor right and a gambling addict in your city district he must achieve the expansion gem he
00:37purchased to pay off his debts with daniel sub actors like lakey stanfield julia fox kevin
00:43gannett india menzel and eric belusian or however i pronounce that name right so this is a pretty
00:51interesting cast here and given the plotting it's a pretty interesting plot right it's also one of
00:57a24's highest grossing domestic movies but that's not really a high bar to pass given that a24's
01:04art house films and their movies do not do bangers at the box office you know because they're all art
01:12houses but this movie it seems to be getting them more attention because like a24 is a pretty good
01:20studio right so yeah um but anyways let's go back to the plot right now in this movie you you have
01:28power right what they do is that this is very interesting the movie it goes back to show you
01:33like um in a african utopian city head like back in the day you have miners they get this black opal from
01:43my mind in africa and then they if i saw it back you have the gambling the gambling addict harvard mc
01:51he wanted to keep making a jewelry store in new york city and he struggled to pay off his gambling debt
01:57including a hundred thousand dollars he owned to arno his loan shark what do you know all right
02:06he says a lot of this is like family issue stuff that is shown here um it's funny part his domestic
02:14his like relationship is pretty interesting he's there in this guild with dina and his wife
02:19who actually agreed to divorce him after a passover and then he has his girlfriend julia a glory
02:27he now his here's the thing what he does is that he gets one of this big basketball stars called kevin
02:40kevin garnett to restore it and this is the actual basketball star and here's the funny part is he's
02:48the basketballer kevin garnett is basically playing himself you know that's the instant problem because
02:54he's actually basketball in real life you know so that's pretty interesting right um i really like
03:01that when you have like slouties or this in the movie but they're just playing themselves and that's
03:06basically what they're doing here with kevin garnett but why he's there to open around and howard shows
03:12it that he gets from africa and he's showing him you know how cool it is and all the other stuff and he had
03:16this weird scenery where it zooms directly in to it and like you've seen all these weird all these weird
03:27imageries that you're seeing as he zooms into it and it it's it's so weird it's like i don't know
03:33exactly how to explain but then um you know he slightly breaks the you know the glass table and i know
03:41people are like oh sure and then you know they have to like like die down or whatever it's a really
03:46interesting scene you know how he thought he shot that after like examine it can't get like addicted
03:53to it and he's like obsessed with it and he's like saying he wants to hold on to it for his his game
03:58night you know where he has his uh his game coming up and howard he's like oh you know he's
04:05at first he's like well and then he ended up agreeing saying you know
04:08he he gives him the nba championship ring as a sort like deal to like to like ensure that they're
04:16on similar grounds now here's the funny part after he leaves howard he pawns the ring and then he's
04:26places this thing on garner playing extraordinary world in last nine games and he ends up doing so
04:34then howard's bed netting like six hundred thousand dollars then he gets up getting ambushed at his
04:41daughter's school play by anna and his schools what happens that anna reveals that he placed a stop
04:46on howard's bed as was made with money owed to him pretty shitty stuff right there you know what's that
04:55you know this whole gambling stuff going on then you know they beat him up whenever and they'll strip
05:01naked and leave him there then he go then he go back to howard and he's made the mini and his party
05:09hosted by the weekend to retrieve the opal the mini says that garland still has the opal and howard
05:15discovers julia and the weekend snorting cocaine together in a patch when he gets in a fight with
05:20him this is actually another funny part in the scene where they start to find the weekend and
05:25after he gets betrayed he demands that julia move out of his apartment then later on we see him
05:34interacting with the wife dina she ends up rejecting his plea to give the manager a chance
05:41after that he goes to return the opal before the auction right and he offers to purchase
05:47a hundred and seventy five thousand dollars about you know howard he refuses that that deal because
05:54he says there's much larger stuff that you can get for you know an auction you can get more money
06:00than that but then he states that howard discovers the opal has been a face for less than his initial
06:07one million dollars so what he does and this gets really crazy he convinces his father-in-law gooey to
06:14bid on the gem to drive up the price but then in the middle of the auction the plan backfires when
06:20ganet refuses to top goonies final good oh shit now a few squeak is hard to open before an offer and
06:28look you're assault hard outside the auction house then he turns to kmh he's bloody he's in tears and
06:34he's going crazy and then you have julia come come from him and then they make up whatever then you have
06:41howard has learned that ganet is still willing to purchase the opal and ganet is like okay you go
06:47to the place they attend to pay him the cash then you also have anna and nika arrive there before
06:53ganet leaves and howard tells julia to bet the cash on the tree with palais on ganet having a strong
07:01performance this is where you realize it starts to get more crazy because you'll notice the act the
07:08character howard he's digging himself into a deeper hole with this his gambling and attempt to like
07:16sort of like pay up these debts now julia escapes and then she goes and he does it but howard he locks
07:21them inside the store using the gate and the mechanism and then he proceeds to watch the the live
07:29game on tv along with the goonies because they can't really get out of the store so they have no choice
07:35well here's the thing though all of everything has been happening leading up to this point right
07:42nothing has been really going for the way harvard wants so this is like the cooler graph and to his
07:52ganet and the boston can't take some more in the game and he ends up winning the bet by the fall because
07:57he bet on his favor so he win like 1.2 million and he's like you know hysteric and he like rub it in
08:05their face and showing them how is he he did he pulled it off and he frees them lets them out you know from
08:12the the cage section in the store and bam he he gets right in the face and he just like falls on and
08:24down and just died right there and i don't know who is like you know his relative is over there with
08:32them you know he's protest and he's like he tries to like escape but then phil shoots him there as well
08:39and while julia is leaving the casino with howard's winnings you have phil and nico with the goonies
08:48at the store they're just looting everything and this leaves as a police is called and all this is
08:56happening and you see they they panned back to a shot of their family um watching the game at their house
09:04and that's pretty much it for the movie to tell you the truth this movie is really something else um the
09:14way it's shot and edited and how it's directed it's so i would say unconventional compared to all the
09:24other types of direction that you see in movies that gets made these days even by the standards of
09:34watching art houses too this movie it stands out and that's largely in part to the selfie but is how they
09:43approach with their directing styles so i have to give them a lot of credit for that um it really does
09:50earn its high praises on the critics but from the audiences i think those are pretty there's probably
09:57a misconception there because according to the reviews a lot of people like hype that this game is
10:03intense and it's hard bump and all that other stuff and well i would say they're not entirely wrong
10:12out of the city they exaggerated a lot of the stuff in this movie in the reviews i mean sure does this
10:19movie when it's going it's going right like when you hear like into the cover it's terms of dialogue
10:28and character interaction it's going like it feels like you're watching it like people actually interacting
10:36with each other it's not like you're watching something that's being acted out scripted sort of
10:44sense and i give them props to that because to make it feel more raw and real in terms of how it's portrayed
10:51because i remember reading up around i think like 80 of this movie in terms of the dialogue and such is
10:58like it's like it's not scripted it's improvised and also that's pretty impressive for a movie as especially
11:07to this perspective how it's played out um from the way it's shot and editing it's that's really impressive
11:18i have to say um the way it plays out too it's not like your typical drama trailer um although that
11:33in the same way it's also your typical drama trailer where you know you're rooting for this guy that's
11:38constantly feeling and you know you want him to come through but at the same time you're like you you
11:49want to like just i don't know like get through his head at everything he's doing he's doing all the
11:55wrong things like constantly going back to the stupid stuff and he's just digging himself a bigger hole
12:03that he won't be able to crawl out of and essentially that's basically the gist of the movie even
12:11though at the end of the movie he ends up crawling out he actually wins at the end it was just like
12:18whoa you know that that ending it was like in a way it's some people compared to like watching
12:25infinity wall you know this was like when tanos won and he snapped his fingers and then all that
12:34stuff happened and i can see the comparisons in a way because when you look at these types of movies
12:41right where you have the guy that's you know the odds are stacked against him and he's always like
12:48he's like the only dog that's been portrayed as the only dog throughout the movie you know the hero story
12:53but you just can't really get a break you really expect it to play out this way but here this movie
13:01it it doesn't really actually plays off this other way but at the same time it sorts of plays into the
13:11idea of going this way and i will find interesting i think this is probably one of the best directed
13:20uh acted movies i've seen to come out in the past 10 years especially the cinematography and
13:31you know the way it was executed and then you have a soundtrack i mean the soundtrack is like
13:36oh holy i mean the uses quite a bit of like r&b stuff and then you have i don't know if you know
13:43i'm composed stuff but it's more on the r&b side and it really does give an interesting atmosphere in
13:53the movie it feels like a movie that's ahead of its time but also a relic of the past
14:03i can't really explain it i guess it probably has to do with the way it's telling its story but i'm
14:09overall out of the scene uncut gems it's one of the best movies i have seen it definitely earns a lot
14:16of praise that it gets um i will say that it gets a bit too much for its you know themes and all
14:25stuff i think a lot of critics really did overstate that this movie in terms of like how
14:32how it's executed you know it's so intense and all that stuff it wasn't really that intense i mean
14:41it's not like say if you're watching let's say the joker i mean that's more intense the way how that
14:50plays out um and there is quite a bit of that in uncut gems but it's more so into the way the characters
15:01interact with each other not really towards the the atmosphere and the directing you know and it
15:09really does fall on the acting especially um i understand this is like easily his best work
15:18or kind of like that one other movie he did from the past um i think it was called punch um love chunk
15:26or something like that uh but this is easily one of his best acting chops and it shows you why he
15:34he has to stop doing those you know cash grab comedies because in these dramas he can really do it
15:43you know i mean he really is a good actor he just if he stopped taking those beauty comedies that
15:52saw a paycheck he'd probably be considered one of the best actors of this generation i mean because
15:57in a way he actually is it just he doesn't really tap into that side of his abilities like like if you're
16:05watching like someone knows they can go above and beyond right like like you know this person can reach
16:14for the moon but instead he only goes on mount ever first i mean especially in the way how he looks i
16:21mean over here i'm saying the looks more like i a slightly younger al pacino great acting great directing
16:30pretty good soundtrack and great script and writing even though it's largely improvised overall at the same
16:38way uncut gems i'll give it a nine point four out of ten it's excellent um it was actually pretty close
16:52to perfect short of a few things in my opinion one being the fact that in the trailers if you've seen the
17:01trailer really well made trailer actually they showed scenes in the trailer that did not make
17:08the fan club the movie right like those scenes that they were having a trailer if you watch a movie
17:14it wasn't in the movie and i find that really annoying i i mean like i know i know like a lot of
17:20movies does that you know just to like um entice more people to watch it like they'll film extra stuff
17:29specifically for the trailers or they will usually like reshoot things or cut out things for a re-edit
17:37to like probably appease for some disagreements in the studio head before release um i know it's more
17:46common but i just finds it really annoying when i see it also on another note i think this movie could have
17:56been a little bit shorter it sets around two hours and like 10 minutes or so i think it could have
18:05easily taken down 10 minutes not that it's slow paced i just think that if you shave off 10 minutes of
18:11this it could have been like more seamlessly flowing you know so yeah but other than that this movie is
18:20very much excellent movie easily one of the best movies of the um last decade because this movie came
18:30out back in december 2019 right um in fact it was even award-winning movie but it got snubbed because
18:40you know i'm sadder right but whatever it is what it is but anyways guys um you just let me know what you
18:46let me know what you think in the comment section down below have you seen uncut gems do you like it
18:52do you hate it do you think it's overrated do you think it's underrated um be sure to let me know and
18:58be sure to check out my all the videos and i guess i'll see you guys later
