00:00I
00:05Spent a lot of time trying to divide us. I need to bring us together
00:13Make this right
00:15Hey guys, welcome back to Nepears. Once again, this is your host, Negever. Today we're going to be doing a
00:34bit of a discussion on a topic that I think is
00:40probably has to be like the second biggest
00:43Problem when it comes to Hollywood
00:45I'll get to the first problem, but this one is probably more
00:52Important from my perspective because it directly impacts how the movies are being made
00:59and that has to do with
01:01the
01:03directors, you know cuts and
01:05Hollywood's incentive to you know follow this sort of like
01:10out if you put it it's like a cookie cutter
01:14formulaic
01:16sort of
01:17approach to making films
01:20rather than
01:21allowing the directors their
01:23chance to experiment or you know
01:26test out stuff and do things differently
01:29one of the biggest examples of this is
01:32The recent case that's ongoing is the
01:35Snyder Cut as it
01:36fans are called the
01:38director's cut of Justice League which is actually set to come out
01:43at the end of this month actually
01:44right
01:45so it's right around the corner
01:47thinking about it
01:48I've been following that since
01:50since 2016 right
01:52all the way into when the
01:55film theatrically released
01:57back in 2017 and then realizing how much
02:00they screwed it over
02:02you know you had fans started their whole
02:04petition
02:06it started from the petition and
02:08from there it started going all the way up to
02:12sending mails to Warner Brothers
02:16just starting a website starting a
02:19GoFundMe sort of stuff
02:21it's a whole big situation that actually
02:24supersedes the actual movie itself
02:27the whole production of that movie
02:28and that is just one scenario
02:32the whole
02:33incident with the Snyder Cut
02:34and you know the Justice League
02:38stuff being blasted out and written down
02:42with a placement
02:44directors and writer
02:46that is just one example right
02:48you can point at dozens of examples
02:51that get surfaced in Hollywood
02:54where directors who you wouldn't actually
02:58expect to have their film
03:01downed downed and forced the
03:05dear cut of the film
03:06you know that it's filmed
03:08it's in edited but
03:11it was me editing specifically
03:14to meet the studio demands
03:17right and I think some of the
03:19most notable cases would have to be
03:22the Superman 2 from 1980
03:27you remember the first Superman from
03:29Richard Donnell he actually filmed
03:32one and two back to back at the same
03:35time and the first one being as
03:37successful as it was
03:39the second one was still in the
03:41process of you know
03:43filming and editing and whatnot
03:45but apparently due to some sort of
03:47like disagreements creative
03:49differences whatever
03:50Richard Donnell he got back
03:52from the part two and they had
03:54some article called Leicester
03:56of it and while he did
03:59picked up from Richard Donnell
04:00that top he ended up doing
04:01his own thing into it and
04:04then he got to do
04:07now what happened there with that film
04:09is that took them 20 years to
04:12realize that even though
04:14Superman 2 was good
04:15there are still people who want to
04:18see the original direct resolution
04:20from that and five years after that
04:24you had Warner Bros. talking about
04:26releasing Superman 2
04:28director's cut as an actual
04:33cut being released
04:34and then you know in 2006
04:36you had the director's cut of
04:37Superman 2 release
04:40and it did well
04:42fans like it although the big
04:44problem with that is the director
04:47didn't get to you know
04:49do all the stuff so he had
04:51no choice but to use some of the
04:54scenes that left the film in
04:55Superman 2
04:57why because you know
04:58how wild that was and
05:00all the circumstances back then
05:02another good example is one
05:04from Ridley Scott
05:06who apparently seems to be
05:08the only director
05:11that I can think of other than
05:12Zack Snyder that has
05:14multiple directors cut of his movies
05:17like seriously
05:19his most notable film under
05:21Ridley Scott is
05:22Blade Runner
05:23obviously and Nam
05:24while that has been a game
05:26change for the genre and
05:29movie horror
05:30it wasn't exactly quite
05:33the vision that
05:34Ridley Scott had in mind of the movie
05:37I mean it's still his movie but
05:39his cut of the movie
05:41didn't actually see later
05:43there until like several
05:46many years there
05:47just like with Superman 2
05:50you had to wait like
05:5120 something years
05:52all the way up to 2007
05:54that was when the
05:56the cut of Blade Runner
05:58the actual Ridley Scott
06:01cut of the film
06:02was seen another day
06:04while that isn't as
06:05significant of a
06:07difference as what you know
06:10these other examples
06:11it actually is something
06:12worth noting
06:13you know because look at someone
06:15as high profile as Ridley Scott
06:16right
06:17he's been in the
06:19in the film business since
06:21I'd say
06:24almost 60 years now
06:26and even he
06:28on his most
06:30notable
06:31culturally
06:32influenced movie
06:33even that also had
06:36and all his struggles to get
06:38his own
06:39own
06:40cut of the film out
06:42to actually had
06:43creative and editing control
06:46another
06:47good example
06:49goes back to
06:51another one of scenarios
06:53Jack Snyder's movie is
06:55Watchmen
06:56although Watchmen was
06:57sort of a polarized movie
07:00at the time it came out
07:02there was a
07:03a bit of a while after that
07:04you got the
07:06Watchmen
07:07um
07:08there was two of them
07:09there was the Watchmen
07:11standing and then the
07:12director's cut
07:13and
07:14those added in some more scenes
07:16but most notably it added also
07:18the
07:19this animation stuff
07:21that allowed it to
07:23basically go well past the
07:24two hour mark
07:26but it made it
07:28more completed
07:29from a director's
07:31one of you
07:33and
07:34while it was much longer
07:37fans was more satisfied
07:39seeing all of the more
07:40complete stuff that was
07:42put in in the film
07:45and then there's also
07:47Batman versus Superman
07:49they know they're probably
07:50the biggest polarizing
07:52situation since
07:54probably in history right
07:55from the same
07:56director
07:56Zack Snyder
07:57right
07:58he's probably like
07:59the more David Lee Scott
08:00at this point
08:01given how much of his work
08:02needs to be like
08:03formatted down
08:05to go with the audience
08:06and then how much time
08:07you have to have him
08:08get his own cut of the movie
08:10now
08:11BVS
08:12we've seen how that was
08:13when it came out
08:14people really hated it
08:16and whatnot right
08:18then a while after
08:19when the DVD cycle came out
08:22they had the ultimate edition
08:23which is actually
08:24first of all
08:25was aerated
08:26when it didn't need
08:27to be aerated
08:28from my opinion
08:29there wasn't really
08:30anything adult-ish in it
08:31but it was still aerated
08:33and it had like
08:33as much as
08:3431 minutes of footage
08:36so that was also
08:37over three hours
08:38but it actually made
08:39the film make sense
08:41to say
08:42you know
08:43things happen
08:44that wasn't making sense
08:45and it actually
08:46ended up making sense
08:47when you watch
08:47the ultimate edition
08:49and then it was so much
08:51of a drastic difference
08:52that a lot of people
08:53who criticize
08:54Zack Snyder on BVS
08:56ended up coming back
08:57to apologize to him
08:59after watching
09:00the ultimate edition
09:01that's one of the
09:02the most important
09:03things to note
09:04that a lot of times
09:05when you know
09:07these films come out
09:08and people
09:09they don't like it
09:10or it gets really
09:12polarized
09:13or upset the fan base
09:15or whatever
09:16and then you have
09:16them complaining
09:19lashing out
09:19at the director
09:20or the writer
09:22there are
09:22some instances
09:23where it might not
09:24even be entirely
09:25their fault
09:26you know
09:27and these examples
09:29that i have pointed out
09:29these are probably still
09:31only the most
09:34notable examples
09:35right
09:36there's plenty more
09:37examples outside of this
09:39that
09:41probably doesn't even
09:41see the light of day
09:42like for example
09:44schumacher cut
09:45of 1995's
09:47batman
09:47which is
09:48already has its own
09:50hashtag
09:51in order to
09:53see the light of day
09:53although i highly
09:54doubt that's gonna happen
09:56given the fact that
09:57joe schumacher is
09:59no longer here
10:01but i don't know
10:02strange things have happened
10:03so i guess i'll wait and see
10:04then there's also the
10:06fact that suicide squad
10:08also has its own
10:09director's cut
10:11that's supposed to
10:13have come out
10:14it's still in the wraps
10:16for now
10:17but it probably might
10:18come out soon
10:19i don't know
10:19the main thing to look at
10:21is
10:21when you look up on
10:22all these stuff
10:23right
10:23when it comes to
10:25director scott and
10:26hollywood and how they operate
10:27it's
10:28a glaring
10:30problem when you
10:32realize
10:33like how much
10:35you know
10:35hollywood is willing to go
10:37like these producers
10:40these executives
10:41how far they willing to go
10:43to ruin their own product
10:45you know
10:47that they have hired people
10:49to come and create for them
10:51right like
10:52in the case of the justice league movie
10:55that film started production
10:57at a pretty bad timing
10:59right
10:59first of all let's just start off
11:01with the timing
11:02it was set to start production
11:04right after bvso's release
11:06because they wanted to
11:07catch up with marvel
11:08right
11:09they wanted to
11:10be ready for whatever
11:11marvel's coming out
11:12and
11:13well some can understand
11:14that it's still a
11:15bad take because they were
11:17rushing everything
11:18and
11:19they didn't let anything
11:21slow down to get time to
11:24find a perspective on
11:25what they
11:27need to focus on
11:28so they just went right into it
11:30and
11:31by the time justice league
11:32was in production
11:33the producers and executives
11:35were like
11:36this is probably not going to work out
11:38well
11:38the director get
11:39got to film most of the movie
11:41probably enough for like
11:43even a sequel too
11:45he didn't complete everything
11:47right
11:47and a year later you know
11:49there was already talks about
11:51trying to get more of the project
11:53having a screening with other directors
11:55to find out what could be done
11:57and
11:57you know then there was this whole scenario
11:59with
12:00the director's daughter committed suicide
12:03and he had to step down
12:05to deal with that personal
12:08problem
12:09now that i'll get to in a minute
12:10but from that
12:12he
12:13announced
12:14third departure
12:16a while after that
12:17and then he heard that the
12:19song is about
12:20jasmine coming in
12:22right
12:23and then the film was
12:25being adjusted
12:27all this other
12:28stuff
12:29you know the one time
12:31went straight to two hours
12:33mandated
12:33but it came straight from the
12:35ceo at the time
12:38then there's a fact that this
12:39composer changed
12:40to dan elfman
12:41the original composers
12:43john dxl
12:44who by the way
12:45he just dropped his piece
12:47for the um
12:48director's cut
12:50it sounds pretty familiar
12:52you know
12:52but i'm back to the timeline
12:55you had dan elfman scoring
12:57the justice league
12:59and then you saw when it come out
13:01you saw the whole result
13:02from
13:03that 2017 justice league
13:05from what they were doing
13:07right
13:08and there's a whole lot of other stuff
13:09here
13:10that you can dwell
13:11to dive into
13:12but i'm not really going to
13:13go all the way into that
13:14because that could probably make
13:16this video
13:17over an hour long
13:18and i don't really have the time
13:21or the storage space to
13:23go into all that
13:24right
13:24i'm just going to link to you
13:26the website
13:27that basically covers all that
13:29stuff about this
13:30nether cut
13:31and the whole time
13:32right
13:33when it comes to this whole situation
13:35when you look into it
13:36you'd realize it's more than just
13:40getting
13:41the director's
13:43version of
13:45a movie
13:47right
13:47it's
13:48it has a lot more than that
13:50on the table
13:51when it comes to this
13:53director's cut that's
13:55coming out soon
13:57first being
13:58that it's
13:59a wake-up call to
14:01hollywood
14:02that it's not
14:04okay to just
14:06scramble on a director's
14:07vision for a film
14:11especially when you're paying them
14:12and exorbitant amount of money
14:14and all the stuff that's putting in place
14:17for at least other people
14:19to work on a movie
14:20it's not just the director at that point
14:23when you look at
14:24a movie that has a
14:26300 million dollar investment into it
14:29and you have like these
14:31cinematographers
14:32these
14:33kamaku
14:34these actors
14:36stuntmen
14:37and even the vfx
14:38couldn't all stop
14:39it's
14:40a culmination of
14:42a bunch of
14:44creators
14:44visions being
14:46meshed together
14:47to create one
14:49big
14:49i would say one
14:50big painting
14:52if i had to
14:53describe it
14:54and when you
14:55interfere with that
14:56you're basically
14:57smudging a painting
14:59yeah like when
15:00that happens
15:01it's a big wake-up call to that
15:03with this
15:04then there's the fact that
15:05the directors
15:07thought they committed suicide
15:08right so
15:09you also have a
15:11personal issue
15:12that's being
15:13brought up here
15:15they
15:16the first of all
15:16the fan base
15:17they already did
15:19manage to put up
15:20a huge
15:23donation
15:24charity work
15:25raising charity
15:26for suicide prevention
15:28so
15:29you have a pretty
15:30good cause that's been
15:32coming out a little bit
15:33as well
15:35then there's also
15:36the fact that
15:36zack snyder's
15:37filmography by itself
15:39isn't really
15:41what one would say
15:42a favorable
15:45resume
15:47you know
15:47he's been in
15:48the game since
15:49time of death
15:50from 2003
15:51which was a pretty
15:52decent
15:53t-bot
15:54following that
15:55he's had
15:56300
15:57is probably his
15:57biggest accomplishment
15:59and then
15:59a bit of a
16:00ups and down
16:01from watchmen
16:02to
16:02manacil
16:03and then
16:03more recently
16:04now
16:05so
16:06this is also
16:07a pretty much
16:08his comeback
16:09then there's also
16:10the fact that
16:11should
16:12hollywood spend
16:14more money
16:15on director's cut
16:16because
16:17when it comes to
16:17this whole situation
16:18with the
16:19justice league
16:20director's cut
16:21they had to
16:22spend money to
16:22finish a film
16:24because
16:24you know
16:25the vfx
16:26and then there's
16:27the fact that
16:28they had to
16:28film some
16:29additional scenes
16:30that the director
16:31did not get a
16:32chance to film
16:32back in 2016
16:34where the majority
16:35of his film's
16:36production was
16:37taking place
16:38there's so much
16:39being written
16:40on this
16:41that it's
16:43no longer
16:43just about
16:45the justice league
16:47movie
16:48it's more so
16:49about
16:50how hollywood
16:51should be
16:52conducting themselves
16:53in terms of like
16:54filmmaking
16:55how
16:56whether
16:56whether
16:57this should be
16:57allowed
16:58allowing
16:59directors more
17:00creative freedom
17:01with these
17:01big productions
17:03this is a
17:05a big
17:05wake-up call
17:06probably a
17:07a answer to
17:08all of that
17:09right
17:10if this director's cut
17:12turns out to be
17:13a big success
17:14and
17:15there's
17:15the indication
17:16that it probably
17:17might be
17:18given what we're
17:19seeing
17:20from the trailers
17:21it could
17:22it's going to be
17:22pretty good
17:24if it turns out
17:26to win over everyone
17:28this is going to
17:28incentivize a huge
17:30domino effect in
17:31hollywood
17:32to go back
17:35and take a look at
17:36see
17:36okay
17:37suicide squad also has
17:39a director's cut somewhere
17:41needs a little bit of
17:42polishing and releasing
17:44you can probably do that
17:45then there's probably some
17:48of those marvel movies
17:50because you know for a fact
17:51just by watching the
17:52marvel movies
17:53they are by no means
17:54director driven
17:56all right a good example of
17:57that is age of
17:58ultran which was
17:59pretty much the nail in the
18:02coffin for joss
18:02sweden
18:03his career
18:05although some people say his
18:07input on
18:08the 2017 justice league was his
18:11nail in the coffin
18:12not say it was more of the
18:14age of ultran
18:17he has a director's cut for
18:18that somewhere
18:19it just wasn't any incentive
18:21to bring it out because he
18:23just left them
18:24you know after that film came
18:25out
18:26all that could be up in the
18:28air
18:29and probably um even the
18:321995 batman joshua marcus cut
18:35but on the flip side if the
18:39director's cut of justice league
18:41turns out to be
18:43a disappointment
18:46and in just on a
18:48hypothetical speaking right
18:50there's nothing definitive here
18:51because it hasn't come out yet
18:53but if it turns out to be a
18:56letdown
18:57that could probably
18:59be a
19:01huge blow to
19:03the creative process and
19:04director's cut and a
19:06you know incentive to
19:07Hollywood to just pretty much
19:11yeah do continue doing the
19:12shit that they're doing and not
19:14allowing directors their
19:16fear shake you know at um
19:18how they should
19:20make the films
19:21why not they should have
19:23more control in terms of like
19:25writing
19:26they're editing it as well
19:27because most of it is going down
19:29to the editing room
19:30and you know what
19:32is left in the film and what's
19:33getting taken out
19:35so yeah guys
19:35i might be looking at a
19:37tipping point here for
19:38Hollywood and the new movie
19:40industry
19:41even probably for
19:42tv shows and cartoons as well
19:44you know
19:45this whole situation could very
19:47much be a
19:49reversal on
19:50and a rejection on that whole
19:53machine
19:54controlled
19:56aspect of
19:58releasing movies that
20:00fit in the same
20:02similar
20:03pattern style
20:05you know trying to copy the
20:07same thing
20:07because they want to like
20:09appeal to the same people
20:11you know this could pretty much
20:12upset that and change it and
20:14probably lead to more
20:15unorthodox styles being
20:18the norm
20:19the only place where you can
20:20see that is on netflix and
20:22netflix is already going the way
20:24of controlled aspects
20:26you know the mainstream other
20:29hollywood businesses are going in
20:31so yeah
20:33there's a lot here on the table
20:35right guys
20:36like i said earlier i can go
20:37either or
20:39right and
20:40it's more so
20:42than just
20:43one movie at this point
20:45that's the main thing people need
20:46to know
20:47from my perspective i think it's
20:49probably going to
20:51turn out um okay
20:54that's pretty much my thoughts on it
20:56but let me know in the comment
20:57section number what you guys think
20:59about this whole situation
21:02director's cuts and extended cuts
21:04whatever
21:05films and then the snide cut
21:07are you guys looking forward to
21:09director's cut of justice league
21:10what are your thoughts on
21:12director's cut in general
21:13all right do you think it's a big
21:16problem in hollywood
21:17or it's just something that's been
21:20over exaggerated
21:21all right be sure to let me know in
21:22the comment section down below and be
21:23sure to check out my
21:24other videos and i guess i'll see you
21:25guys
