00:00I wonder if he just caught the fairy back from Shelbyville after getting a new heel for a shoe.
00:04Here's your look at new Jack's Pacific, The Simpsons Wave 5, Grandpa Simpson.
00:18Inspired by the iconic animated series, The Simpsons, comes toys and collectibles by Jack's Pacific.
00:23Immerse yourself in Springfield with these 5-inch scale action figures of your favorite characters from the show.
00:28Each 5-inch scale action figure comes with over 14 points of articulation for easy pose and play.
00:33I'm not really sure if Jack's tied an onion to his belt, which I guess was the style at the time.
00:38Before, though, we get a closer look at The Simpsons Wave 5, Grandpa, or Abraham Simpson, if you prefer.
00:43We're going to take, of course, the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:45Now, if you've been following the exploits of this humbled reviewer,
00:48the Magic Storyteller, in fact, did already look at Hockey Bart earlier this week that was also part of Wave 5.
00:53Wave 5 also features Troy McClure and also Ellen Kerbopel.
00:56Now, I haven't had any chance to find Mrs. Kerbopel or Troy McClure, for that matter,
01:00but, of course, now we're looking at Grandpa Simpson.
01:02As for how tall the figure's going to stand, the tape measure's telling us that he stands almost, almost 5 inches in height,
01:08working out to be a figure that's about 12 1⁄2 centimeters tall.
01:10Adding on to The Simpsons family that we've already had a look at before,
01:13here's both Homer Simpson and Marge Simpson, of course, with Maggie in her hand.
01:17Because Maggie is also in Marge's hand, it makes things a little bit harder for the figure to stand,
01:21but you can get her to balance just right.
01:24Let's also bring in, of course, the younger kin.
01:25Here's what the figure looks like with Bart Simpson, Lisa Simpson,
01:28and, of course, because he's also part of Wave 5,
01:30we've mentioned, as mentioned already, we also had a look at Hockey Bart earlier this week.
01:34While plans, I'm sure, are swiftly underway to build a Matlock Expressway,
01:38we'll look at the accessories that come in clue with Grandpa Simpson.
01:40It's only one.
01:41The figure does come in clue with his cane.
01:42I don't know why I'm having such a hard time grabbing his cane,
01:44but the cane is all molded here in brown plastic.
01:47Don't expect any additional paint.
01:49I don't think, really, the cane necessarily needs any little bit of extra paint.
01:52It does also hold in his hand, but it only holds on this side of the figure's body.
01:55The other hand is good for flailing fists.
01:57As you're an old person, you do a lot of that.
01:59You flail your fists, you blame the youth, and you tell them to stay off your yard.
02:03That hasn't happened to me yet, although I'll kind of get to that point.
02:07No, though, you can take the cane, and the cane easily just fits in with his hand,
02:10so all you have to do is you're going to wedge it down his fingers in between his thumb,
02:13and you're good to go.
02:15One thing I do think that's cool about Grandpa Simpson is the expression that they gave to his face.
02:20Now, I'm generally not one that likes when you sculpt a figure with a permanent expression,
02:24because there's nothing really else you can do with that.
02:26Although with Grandpa always frantically complaining about everything
02:30and losing things all the left, right, and center,
02:32I think it makes more sense that you have actually a figure sculpted this way,
02:35as opposed to a neutral expression.
02:37Now, they have actually sculpted the glasses,
02:40because initially I looked at that and thought,
02:42oh, they just molded it to his face.
02:44But if you look at it, though, they've actually molded them separately,
02:47and then they've pinched them against the figure's face.
02:50I think you could actually peel these away from his face,
02:52but the problem with that, though, the one issue,
02:54the one issue I have with Grandpa is it does seem, though,
02:57his glasses are really squished against his head.
03:00I wish that they were sticking out a little bit further,
03:02but I know then there would be a likelihood that the glasses would probably either break,
03:06or they frequently, frequently fall off.
03:08So what they've chosen instead, I suppose, to do the smarter thing,
03:12it does look like they've literally just tabbed them onto the side of the figure's face.
03:16So you can see, like, there's slots on the sides,
03:18and then they've just pegged the glasses after the fact.
03:21It's the only thing that's a little jarring about it,
03:22because it does look like his face is larger than his glasses,
03:25or he's bought, like, too small of a frame.
03:27Other than that, though, I think the figure looks painted really well.
03:30Again, you've got the teeth painted really well.
03:31You've got the little bit of tongue there on the bottom of his mouth there as well.
03:35I think for these being a painted figure, they've done a really nice job.
03:38Of course, things that Grandpa are known for doing as well
03:40is he has himself his shirt with the little tie there on the front.
03:43This is actually, if you can believe it, not sculpted in...
03:46I mean, I guess if you feel your finger long,
03:49it does feel like there's a little bit that sticks up.
03:52Initially, I kind of looked at that and thought,
03:54okay, maybe they probably just painted in place.
03:55But maybe on second thought,
03:57as I run my figure gradually across the plastic of the torso,
04:00it does feel like they've actually sculpted in there.
04:03I know that it really would have mattered anyway,
04:04so I don't think they have plans at all
04:05to probably use the torso again for another figure.
04:07I mean, Grandpa Simpson's pretty standard
04:09when it comes to the designing of the character.
04:11It's not like they necessarily could use him again.
04:13I mean, maybe they could release another Grandpa down the road,
04:15but I think, like, for what we get here with Grandpa,
04:18it's not a bad figure.
04:19Of course, it does have the branding on the back
04:21that tells us exactly when it was made,
04:22exactly who made it.
04:24That's one thing that's just unavoidable.
04:26I think Homer actually had that as well.
04:27No, his was actually on his behind,
04:29so Grandpa's is a little bit further up.
04:31So as you kind of move the figure,
04:33you'll feel there's coarseness on the back,
04:34almost like there's something that's damaged the plastic,
04:36but actually it's just the stamping on the back of the torso.
04:40Lighter-colored legs, of course,
04:41and he's also got himself slippers.
04:42Now, slippers are not removable.
04:44They're permanently part of his feet.
04:45Speaking of his feet, though,
04:46on the bottoms of his feet,
04:47he does also have pegs.
04:49None of these figures up to this point,
04:50I don't think it's at all been a continued trend
04:52to ever release these figures with stands.
04:54I would love, really,
04:55if Jack could include additional display stands,
04:58but I know, again, that would increase the price,
05:00and of course, collectors probably look at that
05:01and think, well, I don't need necessarily display stands.
05:04I mean, like, Grandpa doesn't necessarily need a stand.
05:06All the Simpsons figures that have had larger feet like this
05:09have stood fine.
05:10It's characters really like Marge.
05:12Marge is really probably one of the harder figures to stand.
05:14I even found, like, Lisa Simpson,
05:16just because, again, like the smaller feet,
05:17have a harder time just to stand.
05:19But Grandpa, yeah, no issues whatsoever.
05:21I guess if there is a risk that he's going to fall over,
05:23I mean, obviously, he's got a cane for a reason.
05:26He just simply just put that into his hand.
05:28Now, for the figures articulation,
05:30pretty much by now, the standard norm for these,
05:33if you get the larger 5-inch scale figures,
05:35I mean, there's the 2.5-inch scale Simpsons figures
05:37that Jax has a whole lineup of doing as well.
05:40It's still, again, heartbreaking the fact
05:42that Jax is releasing specific characters
05:44in a 2.5-inch format,
05:45because there's certain characters
05:46I still would really like to get.
05:48We don't have yet a side Joe Bob.
05:49I know we eventually will likely get a side Joe Bob,
05:52but, again, there's so many figures right now
05:54that are allocated to a 2.5-inch scale size.
05:58I just really wish that Jax could do
05:59the same characters for both.
06:01But I guess they're probably alternating back and forth,
06:02so, like, those 2.5-inch scale figures
06:04will eventually find their mark,
06:05find their way to a 5-inch scale,
06:08and probably vice versa.
06:10Long-winded, a little fast-speaking that as well.
06:13Let's look at the articulation on Grandpa Simpson.
06:15So, like, again, with the norm for the 5-inch scale,
06:17heads are only going to be on a standard swivel.
06:20The head rotates all the way around.
06:22Probably not a good idea with an old person
06:23or just a young person.
06:24Arms rotate all the way around.
06:26There's a hinge there as well,
06:27so Grandpa Simpson can actually pull up jumping jacks.
06:30I mean, he would just break every bone in his body
06:32if he tried to attempt a jumping jack,
06:34but you can't pull it off with the figure.
06:35There is also a swivel here.
06:38A swivel, I should say, in his bicep.
06:39There's also just a single hinge here in his elbow,
06:42so he can pull off about a 90-degree angle bend,
06:44even though he's only really just got a single hinge.
06:46I guess there is technically...
06:47There is one continuous hinge,
06:49but it's kind of misleading
06:50because when you look at it,
06:51it feels really, and it acts really,
06:53like it should be a double-hinged elbow,
06:55but it is just really one single hinge.
06:57The hands rotate all the way around,
06:59again, with the gripping hand for the can on the one side,
07:01the flailing fist,
07:02and the other.
07:04Then he's got his standard waist swivel.
07:05Nothing really new there.
07:07Legs do split, but they only split so far,
07:09just because, again,
07:09like the size of his baggy shirt
07:12kind of goes over top of that.
07:13Legs go forward only just a little bit.
07:15They also go back,
07:16just barely noticeable,
07:17barely recognizable.
07:19There's a swivel there at the top of the thigh,
07:21and there's also a single hinge in his knee.
07:24That allows for a little bit of swivel down below,
07:27not by much, though,
07:27and the feet do also rotate all the way around.
07:29There's a hinge up and down.
07:30Nice-looking figure,
07:31Grandpa Simpson,
07:32for a figure that is in a permanent anxiety pose,
07:36especially more so in his face.
07:37I think they've actually pulled off
07:38a really nice-looking figure,
07:39and, of course,
07:40continuing filling out the ranks.
07:41We don't have a Patty or a Selma yet.
07:43I hope that's something
07:43that we're eventually going to be getting
07:45in a five-inch scale.
07:46I almost kind of feel like Patty and Selma
07:48will get the two-and-a-half-inch treatment
07:50long before they get released
07:52in a five-inch scale.
07:54Still, it's one of the only things
07:55I really don't like
07:56with what Jax is doing
07:57with the Simpsons figures.
07:58There's certain ones
07:59that, of the smaller size,
08:00I'm kind of really interested to get,
08:02but I'm hoping, though,
08:03I'm holding out hope
08:04that we'll eventually get those figures
08:05in the larger size.
08:07Again, here bringing in
08:08the Wave 5 figure of Hockey Bart.
08:10Hockey Bart,
08:11we've already had a look at
08:12also this week.
08:13And, of course,
08:13the rest of the Simpsons kin.
08:14All of them.
08:15All of them.
08:16Under, what, what?
08:17Five waves.
08:17Five waves in,
08:18and we've already got,
08:19like, again,
08:20just missing the two sisters,
08:21but we have pretty much
08:22all the Simpsons clan.
08:23I mean, could we have ever said
08:24that really with Super 7?
08:25No.
08:26No, no, we could have never
08:27ever said that Super 7.
08:28Deep Space Homer.
08:29Yeah, that made a whole lot more sense.
08:31Tutu Homer.
08:32Moo Moo Homer.
08:33Whatever.
08:33Whatever.
08:34In the end, though,
08:34I'm really happy to finally have
08:36a Grandpa Simpson.
08:37He's not perfect.
08:38I mean, again,
08:38like, there are the things
08:39with his glasses.
08:40I just kind of feel like
08:40the glasses feel, like,
08:41really squished around his face.
08:44But I know the alternative
08:45would have been had
08:45that glasses been loose,
08:47and then you would have
08:47only had them falling
08:48frequently off his face.
08:50This is probably
08:50the smarter approach
08:51to go with.
08:52And in the end,
08:52he's got a great expression.
08:53He's got his cane.
08:54He's got everything
08:55he really needs.
08:55All he needs
08:56is the Matlock Expressway.
08:58Matlock!
08:59Hope that,
09:00I'm sure that's not something
09:01that's going to ever get released
09:02by Jack Specific,
09:03but I think they're doing
09:03a fine job so far
09:04with the Simpsons license
09:05that they've had so far.
09:06The Simpsons is one of four figures
09:07in Wave 5 released this year.
09:09Dickity Dickity 5.
09:10What?
09:11Oh, yeah, yeah, I forgot.
09:12We're allowed to use
09:13the word 20 again.
09:14We chased away that blasted
09:15Kaiser initially stole it.
09:16Yeah, released this Wave.
09:17In fact, also with
09:18Mrs. Kerbopel and Troy McClure.
09:20Funny, though,
09:20where I bought these,
09:22they had the entire set
09:23of Wave 5 figures,
09:24and then they sold them out.
09:25But yet they don't have
09:26individual listings
09:27for Mrs. Kerbopel
09:28or Troy McClure.
09:28So they might be
09:29harder figures
09:30or lower chase figures
09:31to try to track down
09:32as part of this set.
09:33But Hockey Bart still seems
09:34pretty easy to come by
09:35as well as Grandpa Simpson.
09:36I mean, I don't think
09:37that neither one of them
09:38will be peg warmers,
09:39says the guy.
09:39Obviously, I haven't had a chance
09:41to find any of these things
09:42in Wild.
09:42I went to a local Walmart
09:44actually just recently,
09:45and they had actually
09:46a couple of Jack's
09:47specific Simpsons figures.
09:48But they're ones
09:49like from several waves back,
09:51ones that I've already
09:51had a chance to review
09:52and already have obviously
09:53added to my collection.
09:54I hope, though,
09:55that Walmarts here
09:56are going to catch up
09:57and eventually release
09:58the current waves
09:59of what Jack's is putting out.
10:00It's funny, though,
10:00that Jack's still continues
10:01to stock Nintendo figures
10:03easily.
10:04I mean, you can find
10:04the current waves,
10:05but Simpsons stuff,
10:06I don't know, again,
10:07like they just seem to be
10:08really slow on distributing
10:09into stores,
10:10or at least here in Canada,
10:11we can't seem to get
10:12anything current.
10:13What do you guys, though,
10:13think of Grandpa Simpson?
10:14Let me know down below
10:15in the comments section.
10:16Are you guys collecting
10:16at all the 5-inch scale Simpsons?
10:18And do you have any
10:19of the figures from
10:20currently the Wave 5?
10:21Now, as we, of course,
10:22are already talking
10:23about Wave 5,
10:24they've already announced
10:24the Wave 6.
10:25And again, to go and
10:27coincide with that,
10:28not only are there
10:28the 5-inch scale figures,
10:29there's also the 2.5-inch scale,
10:31which has been half the size.
10:33Jack seems very dedicated
10:34to releasing distinct characters
10:36in both waves,
10:37where it doesn't seem yet
10:38that they've crossed many paths.
10:39Like the regular Simpsons
10:40characters, yes, yes,
10:41I know you can get them
10:42in 5-inch,
10:43you can get them also
10:44in 2.5-inch,
10:45but it does seem low,
10:46again, like Hippie Lisa,
10:47for example,
10:48is only being released
10:48in 2.5.
10:49I don't know, again,
10:50we're going to be getting
10:51these figures in 5-inch scale.
10:52If I really could dedicate
10:53my budget,
10:54and I really have to,
10:55because again,
10:55it's impossible for me
10:56to be able to collect both,
10:58I have to really focus
10:59more on my efforts
10:59to collect the 5-inch scale figures,
11:02because again,
11:02I like them more
11:03of the posability,
11:03and I like the smaller,
11:04the taller size.
11:06What do you guys, though,
11:06think of Grandpa Simpson?
11:07Let me know down below
11:08in the comments section.
11:09Are you guys also collecting
11:10the Jack-specific Simpsons?
11:11And if you are,
11:12which size are you focusing
11:14more your budget towards?
11:15The 5-inch more posable figures,
11:17or the smaller scale figures,
11:18because they fit better
11:19with the Jack's dioramas?
11:20Let me know what you think
11:21of these down below
11:22in the comments section.
11:23If you guys did enjoy this video,
11:24you can do a solid throw to like.
11:25You guys want to stick around
11:26for more so?
11:27I hope so.
11:28This isn't, by the way,
11:29the end of our tour
11:30of Springfield.
11:30There is actually going to be
11:31one more Simpsons figure
11:32lined up coming your way
11:33for the rest of this week,
11:34and it's actually relating
11:35to Halloween,
11:36so that's going to work out perfectly.
11:37So I hope you guys
11:38are going to be coming back
11:38for that.
11:39As always,
11:39thanks for watching.
11:40See you guys next time.
